PICNIC PERFECT
How to plan your next family day out

All the grin-worthy jokes you can handle

Consider each family member’s needs when deciding where to go. Freedom Park’s hill and open spaces are perfect for running and playing. Westside Park’s mature trees or City Center Park’s Splash Pad make great picnic locations on hot days.
Ask for input on foods, drinks, and games to pack. A Charcuterie board or snackle box is a fun and easy way for kids to contribute to the experience.
3. Get Creative
Think outside the box for ways to enjoy nature and the outdoors. A scavenger hunt or craft made with items found around the park can make the event memorable.

4. Comfort Is
Be sure to pack a large blanket with a waterproof layer, a few soft pillows, and extra layers of clothing in case the weather changes (it is Indiana, afterall!).
5. Leave No Trace
Respect nature by cleaning up after yourself. Packing drinks and snacks in reusable containers will help keep waste to a minimum. Bring a small trash bag to collect wrappers and food scraps before leaving.
6. Plan For Relaxation
With a bit of planning, a spring picnic can be a fun and relaxing way to spend time together. It can also be a great time to unplug and slow down. Keep it simple and enjoy the memories you are creating with the people you care about most!

On a frigid, snowy morning, Sarah Wilson’s daughter busily collected plasticfooditemsintheKiDCiTYgrocery store. “Welovecominghereandwantto get out of the house when it’s bad weather like this”, she told me. “I love all the different areas that my kids can explore. They’re always finding something new to do and getting creative.” Of the many memories she has made with her kids, she is particularly fond of the day her kids conquered the Luckey Climber for the first time. “My kids were afraid to climb the tower, and one time they just decided to try it and they kept surprising themselves at how high they could go and they were really proud of themselves.” Memorable milestones such as these are a daily occurrence at KiD CiTY. Sarah often purchases a day pass when her kids need a change of scenery or creative outlet, and says she is considering a yearlymembershipaswell.

KiD CiTY is located in the Greenwood Community Center at 100 Surina Way. You and your children will enjoy vibrant play areas, a Luckey Climber, a musical garden, a kid-sized pretend grocery store, an interactive light board, a sensory area, Legos, and much more! Information and pricing for KiD CiTY memberships can be found on page 6 or onourwebsiteatgreenwood.in.gov.

Have you seen Opie, Oakley, or Ozzy-B hanging out at any of ourparkseventslately?
