VISION

STATEMENT

We envision our department as being a viable and recognized force in positively impacting the health, economy, natural environment, and well being of the Greenville community and its people.

MISSION STATEMENT

To advance parks, recreation, and environmental conservation efforts that promote mental and physical health, serve as a deterrent to illegal or inappropriate behaviors, and enhance Greenville’s quality of life.

RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION

The purpose of this commission is to promote recreation and develop parks for the citizens of the city, as well as oversee and guide the operations of the department. Commission meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are typically held at City Hall, 200 W 5th Street. Meetings are not held in December or August. REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Registration will be taken by at Greenville Recreation and Parks Department facilities or online at GreenvilleNC.gov. Programs will have varying registration dates; please review program information carefully. Registering early is encouraged. Please call (252) 329-4567 for more information.

REFUND POLICY

Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will give full or partial refunds for the following reasons:

1. Class canceled due to lack of participant interest, and/or

2. Valid medical reasons on the part of the participant, and/or

3. Participant attended program and is dissatisfied within the first two (2) meetings of a program. Individual must contact Greenville Recreation and Parks Department staff within five (5) business days after the second meeting to request a refund.

Senior management must approve a refund or a credit for a program or a portion of program. Credits can be used only by the participant or their immediate family members.

*NEW* SUMMER CAMP REFUND POLICY

Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will give full/partial refunds or an account credit based on the following criteria:

Full Refund — 2 weeks notice (14 Days) prior to camp week beginning date

Half Refund — 1 week notice (7 Days) prior to camp week beginning date

Credit — Less than 1 week notice prior to camp week beginning date

Yard Games at Elm Street Lawn Games Area

All Ages

Come out to hone in on your bocce, shuffleboard, and cornhole skills. Pick-up play and group play for all 3 activities. Great exercise and practice for Senior Games. Groups are welcome to take advantage of this free program. Staff will be on sight to offer beginning instructions to all the new players. Equipment will be provided.

SENIOR GAMES

2026 Senior Games at Various Locations Ages: 50 & Up Greenville–Pitt County Senior Games is one of 53 local games across the state. This program offers athletic competitions, as well as the arts, on the local level for individuals 50 years of age and better, with winners qualifying for state finals each year. The events will be held at several facilities in Pitt County. Registration for all events is January 19–March 5, opening ceremonies April 6 and closing ceremonies April 25. Fee: TBD

COMPETITIVE SWIMMING

Yellowfins Summer Swim Team at Greenville Outdoor Aquatic Center Ages: 5–18

Yellowfins Summer Swim Team is a proud member of the Greenville Area Summer Swim League. Participants should be able to swim 25 yards before beginning the program. Swimming evaluations are available upon request. Participants will attend weekly practices and compete in swim meets each Tuesday (beginning June 16), as well as in the championships at the end of July. We ask that each swimmer try to participate in at least two practice sessions a week. Practices will be held at the Greenville Outdoor Aquatic Center. Fee includes GASSL dues, swimsuit, and swim cap. Parents will be required to help facilitate swim meets. Goggles, a swim cap, and fins are strongly recommended.

Lifeguard in Training Program at Greenville Aquatics & Fitness Center

Ages: 16 & up

The Lifeguard in Training Program is designed to prepare participants to earn their lifeguard certification by introducing essential water safety skills, rescue techniques, and professional responsibilities. Participants must complete a pre-test to enroll in the program. Once admitted, participants will complete 10 hours of instructional video followed by an intensive weekend session (Saturday–Monday) to practice skills and complete certification requirements. Upon successful completion, participants will have the opportunity to apply for a summer lifeguard position with the City.

Private Swim Lessons at Greenville Aquatics & Fitness Center All Ages

Beginning swimming through advanced stroke mechanics taught one-on-one by certified water safety instructors. We will work with you to make sure the water is no longer an obstacle. Most lessons are 30 minutes in length but can be extended depending on swimmer skill, endurance, and age. By appointment only during the months of September–May. Fee is per ½ hour.

Guppy I at Greenville Aquatic & Fitness Center Ages: 6 Months–2 Years

This class introduces children and parents to the aquatic environment through play. The goal of this class is to help parents to be able to keep small children safe in and around water. Babies in diapers must wear rubber pants over their diapers or “Little Swimmer” specialty diapers. Required: Adult in water throughout classes.

Jellyfish II at Greenville Aquatic & Fitness Center Ages: 5–9

Swimmers are taught freestyle, backstroke, jumping, underwater skills, directional changes, treading water, and daily safety topics. The goal at this level is to be able to swim 25 yards proficiently. Students should be able to jump in the pool, recover, swim to the edge, and exit independently at the beginning of class. Prerequisites: Jellyfish I or swim half the pool with no assistance of any kind.

Starfish (Intermediate) at Greenville Aquatics & Fitness Center Ages: 5–10

This is for the swimmers who have completed Jellyfish 2 but need more endurance before joining Dolphins. Swimmers will build on their endurance and fine-tune their skills. The goal at this level is to be able to swim 50 yards proficiently in freestyle and backstroke and start to learn breaststroke. Pre-requisites: Jellyfish 2

Participants are taught endurance, stroke development, and safety. This level is intended for those wishing to pursue competitive swimming or swimming for fitness. Ages: 5–15

Designed for advanced swimmers, Sharks focuses on technique and endurance to prepare for competitive swimming or fitness swimming. Skills learned: Flip turns, technique drills, starts, finishes, endurance, and set building. Lifeguard Training at Greenville Aquatics & Fitness Center Ages: 15 & Up

Become an American Red Cross Lifeguard. The course teaches the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies, CPR, First Aid, and AED training. The pretest required includes a 300yard swim, treading, and timed object retrieval. Must be age 15 on the last day of class. The fee includes a $50 non-refundable deposit. Club members may use the facility, wheels, equipment, & tools when classes are not in progress. Electric throwing wheels, throwing and modeling tools, hand extruder, and a wide variety of glazes are available for club use. To be eligible for enrollment, participants must have taken at least two Potter’s Wheel class at the Center for Arts & Crafts or have previous pottery experience. If a participant has not taken a pottery class at the Center for Arts & Crafts but has prior throwing experience, they must make an appointment with Pottery Coordinator for an orientation. Greenville Little Leagues (GLL) Youth Baseball at various locations Ages: 9–12 Little League Baseball is a long-standing tradition in Greenville for both boys and girls. North State Little League began play in 1951 while the Tar Heel Little League began playing three years later in 1954. GLL has 16 major league teams (9–12 year-olds). Eight of these teams play in the North State Little League and eight of the teams play in the Tar Heel Little League. Candidates must live or attend school within the boundaries served by Greenville Little Leagues. Futsal Youth Soccer Leagues at H. Boyd Lee Park Ages: U10–U13

Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small-sided soccer game played 5v5 indoors with a smaller low bounce soccer ball. The game is played with touchline boundaries and no walls. Futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill in high pressure situations which can be translated to outdoor soccer. The sport is great for skill development as it relies on quick reflexes, fast think and pinpoint passing. The leagues will consist of coed divisions for ages U10 (2016–2018) & U13 (2013–2015) with t-shirts provided. Please note games may be played on different days and times than practices. Grab your bike and join us for a guided bike tour around Wildwood Park! We will explore several of the mountain bike trails in the park as well as the west side of Wildwood Park. Tar River Kayak Adventure from Falkland to Wildwood

This trip is for adventure seekers looking for a longer, more remote kayak trip than our typical offerings. Join us as we paddle 14 miles down river from Falkland to Wildwood Park! This trip will be an “all day” adventure, taking about 8 hours. Participants will need to bring adequate food, water, sunscreen, and insect repellant for a full day on the water. Registration for summer camp will start on February 9, 2026. Unless stated otherwise in the description of the program, you may register for programs at any Greenville Recreation and Parks facility. You may also register for most programs online at GreenvilleNC.gov. Program space is limited.

Summer Camp Payment Plan

1. The payment plan is not available for online registrations. Program space is limited. 2. The program registration form and payment plan form must be completed, signed and submitted at time of in-person registration.

A $35 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit for each session per child, is due at time of registration. The deposit is applied towards the registration fee for the session. The balance for the session is due at least two weeks prior to the beginning of each camp session. Any participants whose balances are not paid in full two weeks prior to the session will forfeit their deposit and their spot in that session. Forfeiture of deposit also is a forfeiture of the ability to use the payment plan for the remainder of the summer.

Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will give full/partial refunds or an account credit based on the following criteria:

Full Refund — 2 weeks notice (14 Days) prior to camp week beginning date

Half Refund — 1 week notice (7 Days) prior to camp week beginning date

Credit — Less than 1 week notice prior to camp week beginning date

Senior management must approve a refund or a credit for a program or a portion of program. Credits can be used only by the participant or their immediate family members.

Famous Artist Camp at Jaycee Park Center for Arts & Crafts

Ages: 6–13

Campers will learn how to create interesting artwork during this camp. Children will be grouped according to age and split into three small groups that travel room-to-room to create artwork. They will create three or more works of art weekly that will focus on creativity and self-expression. Each week will include a clay project as well as a painting/drawing project and the third project of sewing, 3-D, or other. Each week will have different project themes, so children who love art are welcome to come every week if they would like! Special Olympics Track and Field at Drew Steele Center

Ages: 8 & Up

A competitive track and field program for individuals with disabilities. Athletes that participate in this program will be eligible to participate in the Special Olympics Spring Games event. Competing in races, soft ball throw, and long jump. Athletes must be registered for this program and have Athlete Registration Form on file to participate.

Special Olympics Spring Games at J.H. Rose High School

The biggest event for the Special Olympics Pitt County! Athletes compete in track and field events. Volunteers can choose from a variety of assignments that include set up and break down for the event, serving food, assisting with events, or assisting as an athlete buddy for the day. Time commitment: 6 hours.

The Hopping Good Time at Jaycee Park

Ages: 0–13

Join us for an evening of family fun featuring music, food vendors, bounce houses, a photo booth, arts and crafts, egg-themed activities, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. The night begins with the Egg Rush for ages birth to 9, a fast-paced egg hunt broken into age groups with staggered start times every 15 minutes. Later kids ages 8 to 13 can enjoy the Neon Eggstavaganza, a glow in-the-dark egg hunt filled with neon eggs and glowing surprises. Tickets are required for this event.

Join us at Wildwood Park for the Greenville Recreation and Parks Department’s 2nd Annual Oyster Roast. Enjoy fresh oysters, live music, and more while taking in the scenic views of Barber Lake. Food is provided by Washington Crab. Tickets are required for this event and include food and non-alcoholic beverages. Alcohol beverages will be available for additional purchase on-site. Youth Athletic Coaches at various locations

An important component of all GRPD youth sports programs are our volunteer coaches. We have more than 150 teams across Future Stars Soccer and Greenie League Baseball that need volunteer head coaches. Coaches will attend clinics and meetings and will receive prepared practice plans and manuals to guide you through the season.

An important component of our JR NBA Summer basketball program is our volunteer coaches. We implement coaching clinics and practice plans to help prepare coaches for the season. All Ages w/Adult Come for an hour, or two, and help maintain the trails at River Park North. Projects include removing debris, trash, and invasive plants throughout the park. Volunteers working for at least an hour will receive free admission to the nature center. Bring gloves, water, bug spray, and long pants.

National Trails Day Discovery Hike at Wildwood Park

Celebrate National Trails Day with a hike around Barber Lake at Wildwood Park! Staff will guide hikers around the 1.7 mile loop, point out wildlife, and answer questions about the park. The trail is suitable for most strollers. Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable footwear. This program will meet at the Welcome Center.
