MISSION STATEMENT To advance parks, recreation, and environmental conservation efforts that promote mental and physical health, serve as a deterrent to illegal or inappropriate behaviors, and enhance Greenville’s quality of life.

RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION The purpose of this commission is to promote recreation and develop parks for the citizens of the city, as well as oversee and guide the operations of the department. Commission meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are typically held at City Hall, 200 W 5th Street. Meetings are not held in December or August. REGISTRATION REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration will be taken by at Greenville Recreation and Parks Department facilities or online at GreenvilleNC.gov.

Programs will have varying registration dates; please review program information carefully. Registering early is encouraged. Please call 252-329-4567 for more information.

REFUND POLICY Greenville Recreation and Parks Department will give full or partial refunds for the following reasons: 1. Class canceled due to lack of participant interest, and/or 2. Valid medical reasons on the part of the participant, and/or 3. Participant attended program and is dissatisfied within the first two (2) meetings of a program.

Individual must contact Greenville Recreation and Parks Department staff within five (5) business days after the second meeting to request a refund.

Senior management must approve a refund or a credit for a program or a portion of program.

Credits can be used only by the participant or their immediate family members.

OTHER INFORMATION Our programs are carefully planned with an awareness of individual needs and we will strive to give people with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in our activities. Staff can discuss accommodations or adaptations.

SENIOR GAMES 2027 Senior Games at Various Locations

Ages: 50 & Up

Greenville-Pitt County Senior Games is one of 53 local games across the state. This program offers athletic competitions as well as the arts on the local level for individuals 50 years of age and better, with winners qualifying for state finals each year. The events will be held at several facilities in Pitt County. Registration for all events will begin in February with opening ceremonies and competition taking place in April 2027.

Beginning swimming through advanced stroke mechanics taught one–on–one by certified water safety instructors. We will work with you to make sure the water is no longer an obstacle. Most lessons are 30 minutes in length but can be extended depending on swimmer skill, endurance, and age. By appointment only during the months of September–May. Fee is per ½ hour.

This class introduces children and parents to the aquatic environment. The goal of this class is to help parents keep small children safe in and around water. Babies in diapers must wear rubber pants over their diapers or “Little Swimmer” specialty diapers. Parents are in the water with their children during the entire class.

Jellyfish I at Greenville Aquatics & Fitness Center

Ages: 5–9

Swimmers are taught basic water safety skills such as floating, entering, and exiting the pool. Swimmers begin to learn the swimming mechanics of breathing, kicking, and arm pulls. The goal is to be able to jump in the pool, recover, swim to the edge, and exit independently.

Become an American Red Cross Lifeguard. The course teaches the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies, including CPR, First Aid, and AED training. Mishima Surface Decoration at Jaycee Park Center for Arts & Crafts Adults

Ages: 18 & Up

Mishima is a surface decoration technique in which patterns are carved into clay and filled with contrasting slip to create inlaid designs. Through carving, filling, and scraping, delicate lines and layered patterns emerge, giving the surface a depth and richness distinct from painted decoration. Throughout this class, students will explore the fundamentals of Mishima while working with both hand-built and wheel-thrown forms. They will design, carve, and stamp motifs into leather-hard clay using slip inlay to create layered surface patterns.

Students will also create custom clay stamps to develop unique surface designs in their work. This class is for intermediate and advanced potters. Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small-sided soccer game played 5v5 indoors with a smaller low bounce soccer ball. The game is played with touchline boundaries and no walls. Futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill in high pressure situations which can be translated to outdoor soccer. The sport is great for skill development as it relies on quick reflexes, fast think and pinpoint passing. The leagues will consist of coed divisions for ages U10 (Aug 1, 2016–July 31, 2019) & U13 (Aug 1, 2013–July 31, 2016) with t-shirts provided.

Tar River Kayak Adventure from Falkland to Wildwood Ages 12 & Up w/adult This trip is for adventure seekers looking for a longer, more remote kayak trip than our typical offerings. Join us as we paddle 14 miles down river from Falkland to Wildwood Park! This trip will be an “all day” adventure, taking about 8 hours. Participants will need to bring adequate food, water, sunscreen, and insect repellant for a full day on the water. Trip may be cancelled on short notice due to weather or river conditions. Paddle with us along the Tar River! Relax and learn as we travel along our 2.5 mile route down river from River Park North to Wildwood. This program will meet at the Wildwood Park Welcome Center. We will have gloves, lopping shears, and pruners to borrow, but feel free to bring your own (leave the chainsaws at home)!
