Greensboro Country Club March | APRIL 2021

General Manager/COO's Message (336) 275-8506

Dear Members, We are welcoming spring with a flurry of activity! The renovation project is underway, and we are very excited about the adventures ahead! As you read this, the temporary construction road, fire lane and site layout area are being installed. We will begin the demolition of the pool deck and the existing Pavilion building in March. The lower level of the Family Grille/1909 and kitchen, as well as the Fitness lower level classroom will be demolished. As we look toward working in the Sunset Dining Room, adult dining will have a new home in March and family dining will remain in the Granville room. Thankfully, the governor has increased the capacity that we are permitted to have in the dining rooms, so please join us for breakfast, lunch and dinner at Irving Park! We will continue to keep you informed via email and video as we progress through this project. Communication is key during a project as big as this. I am very happy to report that the Membership passed the new class of Membership known as the Farm Membership. This is a fantastic opportunity for people who live near the Farm to enjoy the Club. We are looking forward to welcoming our first group of new Farm Members in April. Watch for updated dining schedules and additional activities at the Farm!

March | April 2021

We will celebrate the Easter Holiday this year with an egg hunt at Irving Park and Easter Brunch at Irving Park and the Farm in April. We do hope you will join us for the festivities. It is difficult to believe that it has been a year since we saw the beginning of this pandemic and how life has changed for all of us. Please know that we are exploring new activities and dining opportunities that meet the government's guidelines while keeping Members engaged, entertained and happy at the Club.

Recently, a Member wrote a letter to change to a nonstockholding Membership, as his 75th birthday was approaching. I would like to share a bit of his letter with you, and what it means to this Member to be a part of GCC. "My father and before him, my mother's father were members, and I have enjoyed the Club since a child, becoming a member myself in 1973. When I was eight years old, I had group golf lessons taught by assistant pro Joe Annicelli (or Alphabet, as some miscreants called him), and later played in the Carolina Juniors. I took tennis lessons from a young man named Herb Brown working as the tennis pro during summers in college and law school, and who boarded with my grandmother and became a very distinguished attorney. I swam on the swim team. I sledded down No. 1 tee and No. 13 fairway, and got warm by the furnace room. I attended dances in the Pavilion, where I also received a lesson in gin rummy from Will Jordan, and have not played the game for money since. I snagged more than a few sticky buns from the kitchen. My dog Checkers begged at the grill window until Willie gave him a cup of ice cream and put it on my dad's bill signed 'Checkers.' Lots of good memories." As we continue down the path of change and growth, let us all remember that we are making memories here at GCC... memories that will last a lifetime. Sincerely, Terra S.H. Waldron, CCM, CCE General Manager/COO

Membership

(336) 275-8506

Dear Members: I have had some great conversations recently regarding what it means to be a Member Invitation Club and how to Sponsor a new Member. I thought it might be a good time to share our three-step process with you because now is the perfect time to share the GCC Membership Opportunity! With the renovation underway, our facilities will be the most sought after in this region and this brief transition period will be over before we know it. • The process starts with an invitation to join by a Stockholding Sponsoring Member. A Prospective Member can only complete an application with the signature of a Sponsoring Member. Typically, this begins with the Sponsoring Member delivering a Membership Packet, which includes an application. The Sponsoring Member is the catalyst and the “invitation” privilege extension. • A Sponsoring Member should help the Prospective Member in securing three Member endorsement letters which will be submitted with the application. If a Prospective Member is married, the spouse will also need three endorsement letters (married Members may write and sign a joint letter for married Prospective Members). The completed application should be submitted, with three Member endorsement letters, to the Membership Department with the application fee.

• The Sponsoring Member will attend the New Member Interview with the Prospective New Member. The Sponsoring Member gets the distinct privilege of introducing the Prospective New Member to the Membership Committee during the New Member Interview, which is held once a month. Here’s what we need from you. Share what makes GCC special to you and why you love being a Member with your friends, neighbors and coworkers. If you grew up here, you will remember sticky buns and swim team, dances, camps and lessons of all kinds. If you’ve had a special event here, the GCC Staff surely made it a memorable one. If you ever attended one of GCC social functions, wouldn’t we all love to have the opportunity to attend one those right about now? Remember how GCC goes above and beyond expectations every time! What about golf and tennis tournaments? These are all memories that last a lifetime. This is what Membership is all about! Share the exciting things that happened at the Club during 2020, even during the pandemic, and the historic changes that are taking place as we embark on renovation. Sponsor Just One new member in 2021! Sincerely, Lori Frasier Membership Director
