GREENSBORO BUILDERS ASSOCIATION - BUILDER UPDATE

Corporate and personal contributions to the endowment will be placed in a restricted scholarship fund within our GBA Benefit Trust – a 501c3 charitable trust. Annual interest and gains on the endowment principal will be used to provide scholarships, focused on growing our workforce.

Industry members are encouraged to help us develop and advance this initiative. Our planning teams have been meeting this fall…and welcome others to join us as we are focusing on “thinking outside the box” rather than following the traditional scholarship path.

•Scholarship Planning: Develop and administer all aspects of the scholarship program from establishing scholarship criteria and the application process, to the selection and awards of the scholarships. Our planning team will work closely with area schools, colleges and workforce development organizations to market and promote the scholarship program. Our goal is to award scholarships in the spring of 2024.

•Scholarship Endowment: Work to secure the financial resources needed to develop, manage, and grow the endowment fund, including corporate donations and special fundraising events such as our recent casino night.

As you will see on the next few pages…we had a great time this past month launching our endowment fund with our Building for the Future Casino Night. I think this event will only grow each year. Everyone is still talking about how much fun they had. Special thanks to all who supported this inaugural event.

Our Association has been extremely busy this fall. We celebrated Professional Women in Building week as our PWB council has grown to more than 60 members in its first year.

We have held sold-out Fall Golf & Skeet Tournament…a great Oktoberfest…continuing education classes for contractors…Let’s Get Social workshops presented by our Young Professionals…a successful Fall Parade of Homes…along with our Casino Night. Our First Wednesdays continue to grow. If you haven’t attended one…I encourage you to do so. It’s a great opportunity to make new business connections…as well as invite prospective members to attend.

I would like to personally thank you for your support of the Greensboro Builders Association. Your membership investment…your participation in GBA events…any and all levels of involvement are greatly valued and appreciated.

It has been an honor to serve as our Association’s president this year. We have a great Board of Directors, staff and volunteers that work diligently to grow and enhance the offerings we provide.

We hope that you will join us for our Holiday Party on Thursday, December 7 to celebrate a successful year and the holiday season!

pecial thanks to our Building for the Future Casino Night sponsors, participants and volunteers. Our inaugural event was held on Thursday, October 26 at Starmount Forest Country Club. We had a great evening of fun and excitement while supporting our construction careers scholarship program, as all proceeds went directly to our endowment fund…raising more than $8,000 for the launch of our scholarship endowment.

Everyone attending received a $5,000 casino chip to get started. We had Blackjack – Roulette – Craps – Poker tables. At the end of the evening…casino chips were converted to raffle tickets for some great prizes donated by our members.

Our focus is on providing skilled training opportunities for students and adults. With the projected growth and growing needs for skilled labor…we have to find ways to build greater awareness of the vast opportunities in our industry.

s you begin to work on your marketing plan for the new year…make sure you are taking advantage of the various marketing and promotional opportunities within the Greensboro Builders Association. Whether you are looking to gain name recognition for your company…promote products and/or services…make new business connections…there are ample opportunities available throughout the year.

Membership Directory – make sure your company and contact information are correct on the website directory…as well as in our annual printed directory that is mailed the first week in January. If you haven’t reviewed your annual verification email… do so now or contact the office to confirm all information in our database is current for the primary contact person and any affiliate members.

Committee Participation – joining a committee and/ or planning team is another great way to meet other industry members…while helping our Association achieve annual goals.
