Solutions a Trend at This Year’s

C

ontractors and dealers gathered in Louisville, Ky., in October for the annual GIE+EXPO, the lawn care industry’s largest trade show. The event was bustling with foot traffic, as attendees anxiously waited for the opportunity to browse all the newly released equipment and test drive machines at the outdoor demo area.

The anticipation leading up to the expo was high. Manufacturers pulled out all the stops for the event, eager to show off their new technologies and products.

And deliver they did. Around every isle, technology was at the forefront, offering new and improved ways you, the contractor, can complete jobs in less time, more efficiently and even with less labor.

The evolution of battery-powered equipment, robotics and interconnected devices were a few of the major highlights at the show. STIHL, Husqvarna, Toro, Milwaukee Tool, EGO, Briggs & Stratton, Greenworks and many more were among those pushing into the battery-powered market at both the handheld outdoor equipment level and larger machines.

Many of those manufacturers have developed new products to help cities and developers deal with new rules and regulations regarding lawn care and maintenance. Many cities and residential developments require low-to-no exhaust emissions and lower noise levels so manufacturers must adapt to meet the needs of their customers. Several manufacturers offered innovative solutions to those issues.

Leveraging software technology to upgrade business practices was evident, as well. Web-based tools or software to help contractors speed up the estimating

and proposal-building process often results in less time spent traveling to properties, happier customers and more time to focus on other parts of the business.

Meanwhile, although the landscape industry is in the midst of a labor shortage, demand for work is not slowing down. Manufacturers are designing machines with higher operating capacity, that are more powerful and productive equipment that is easy to use. From heavy-duty commercial grade mowers or robotic mowers in their third or fourth generation, to improved engine performance, there was much to see and do at this year’s in-person expo.

As for next year, GIE+EXPO will be rebranded and relaunched in 2022 as Equip Exposition, under full ownership of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), evolving the industry’s largest tradeshow and starting a new chapter for the event, while reinvesting in its host city of Louisville.
