Food for Fines Do you have overdue fines? N ow is the time to clear your account! During the entire month of November, we will waive $1.00 from Green Hills cardholders’ overdue fines for each non-perishable food item that is donated. There is no limit! I tems must be in good condition with labels intact. Expired items will not be accepted. Food for Fines only applies to overdue fines and cannot be redeemed for lost/damaged material or referral fees. A ll food items will be donated to the Palos Township Food Pantry.

Fannie May Fundraiser The Friends of the Library need your support! S top in and pick up a Fannie May candy bar for just a suggested donation of $1.00. T here are a variety of flavors and no limit to how many you can purchase! Purchases can be made at the Information Desk located on the 2nd floor.

Friends of the Library Book Drive Monday, November 23 – Monday, December 7 The Friends of the Library want your gently used books, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs! W e are looking for newer and popular titles to be sold in our book sale. P lease leave donations with Friends of the Library volunteers in the Lobby or at the Information Desk. Did You Know? Holiday Cards for the Troops For the third year, the Green Hills Public Library District has partnered with AdoptaPlatoon in order to send signed and decorated holiday cards to United States servicemen and servicewomen currently stationed overseas. The partnership was proposed by James Kruse of Palos Hills, Director of the Hickory Hills branch of AdoptaPlatoon, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting deployed troops and military families. Come to the Library to sign a card to show your support. If you are interested in getting involved in AdoptaPlatoon, please visit their website at adoptaplatoon.org.

Dear Library Community, November and December are busy months with Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching, and I understand it is easy to overlook those Library materials checked out during a less busy time. The Library is offering an opportunity to reduce or eliminate fines during the month of November by dropping off unexpired canned goods. These items will be donated to the Palos Township Food Pantry. A win-win situation! Wondering what to do with the children over the holidays? Don’t forget to bring them to the Library for our “Bored over Break” programs. There will be crafts, Xbox, and board games, or they can sit and watch a movie on our big screen TV. The possibilities are endless! Thinking about getting a Nook or Kindle? Test drive the Library’s first; we have a great selection of fiction and nonfiction titles for everyone. Whatever you are doing this holiday season, staff send their best wishes to you and your families.

What’s Our Staﬀ Reading? The Eye of Minds by James Dashner This futuristic science fiction novel takes us on a journey into the virtual world, known as the Sleep. In the Sleep, Michael and his two friends are on a mission to find the cyber-terrorist Kaine, who has found a way to trap people within the Sleep. Michael and his friends take a big risk coding their way through video games to find Kaine, but will he find them first and trap them in the virtual world forever?

Adult Programs Friends of the Library Fundraiser: Paint and Sip* Friday, November 6 • 6:00–8:30pm Wednesday, November 18 • 6:00–8:30pm A little paint, a little wine, and a whole lot of fun! Help support the Friends of the Library by coming to one of our wine and painting classes. T ickets are $20.00 which includes a one-year membership to the Friends of the Library. Current Friends members can purchase tickets for a discounted price of $15.00.T his event is for ages 21 and older and valid identification is required.

Holiday Desserts* Monday, November 9 • 6:30pm The holidays are fast-approaching and a great way to celebrate is by enjoying some excellent fruit and chocolate desserts with your family and friends! Chef Maddox will prepare three great recipes including toasted almond and lavender shortcakes with fall-inspired compote, dark bittersweet chocolate bread pudding with salted caramel sauce, and weekend citrus apricot gateau. Learn the recipes but also some new methods and techniques in making these sweet treats. Registration is limited to 75.

Dinner and a Movie: Jurassic World* Thursday, November 12 • 6pm

After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into. Popcorn, soda, and movie theater snacks will be served!

Book discussions will take place one Wednesday a month at 7pm at different locations around the community. Copies of the books will be available at the Circulation Desk one month prior to each meeting for GHPLD cardholders. Adults of all ages are welcome to participate!

Gift wrapping is inexpensive when you do it the Prairie Godmothers’ way! Build a toolkit of recycled papers, boxes, and accessories to create your own stunning yet low-cost gift wraps, cards, tags, and ribbons.

Pretty Pinteresting: Holiday Gifts** Monday, December 7 • 7pm For the holiday season we will be making frosted glasses and wood burned coasters. These are perfect D.I.Y. gifts you get to take home! Registration is limited to 35.

Elizabethans Holiday Concert Monday, December 21 • 7pm The Elizabethans take the audience back in time to the England of Queen Elizabeth I, where they can imagine themselves as guests in the great baronial hall which is filled with music and merry feasting. Dressed in elaborate gowns designed after those worn by Queen Elizabeth I in her youth, the Elizabethans sing, dance, and play instruments. They perform music not only from the Renaissance, but also from many lands and many times, gradually coming back to the present.

Artist Christine Thornton will be coming to the Library to teach us about the Australian Aboriginal tradition of telling creation stories through symbolic paintings, called “Dreaming.” Then we’ll use collage and tempera paint to create our own “Dreamtime” art. Family Bingo* Thursday, November 19 • 6pm Looking for some fun for the whole family? Come play bingo for prizes! Everyone is a winner! Registration is limited to 60. All ages welcome.

James and the Giant Peach* Monday, November 23 • 6pm With the help of a spider, ladybug, and centipede, James attempts to travel from the English seaside to New York, inside of an enormous peach! American Eagle Productions is bringing this exciting musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book to the Library. Registration is limited to 90. All ages welcome.

Ages 6 months–23 months. With a focus on music and movement, this story time is perfect for our youngest prereaders! Caregiver must attend with the child. Older siblings welcome. Registration is limited to 12.

Little Listeners* Thursdays at 10am November 5, 12, 19 December 3, 10 Ages 3–5. Come to the Library and have some fun with stories, songs, and more! Registration is limited to 18.

Family Gingerbread House Decorating*

Enjoy a free movie, popcorn, and juice with the family! All ages are welcome.

Bring the whole family and get creative decorating gingerbread houses at the Library! The Library will provide icing and decorations, but participants are welcome to bring in other edible treats to decorate their houses. One gingerbread house will be provided per family. Program is limited to 16 families. All ages welcome.

Due to high demand, we are offering this program on two dates. Patrons are limited to registering for only one session.
