A Universe of Stories Summer Reading Program 2019 Monday, June 10–Saturday, August 3 Embark on a journey to discover A Universe of Stories during this year’s Summer Reading Program. We invite youth (ages 2+) and adults of all ages to sign up and participate during this 8-week program. Log your reading to earn tickets for a chance to win one of our grand prizes. Readers ages 0–17 will receive weekly prizes. Grand prize tickets can be picked up at the Youth or Adult Services Desks. Registration starts Monday, June 10 at 9am at the Library or online at greenhillslibrary.org. You can also conveniently log your reading through our website and the Beanstack app.

announcements Summer Reading Kick-Off! Monday, June 10 • 3:30–7:00pm Start the summer off right at the Library! Registration for the 2019 Summer Reading Program starts Monday, June 10 at 9am. Register at the Library or online at greenhillslibrary.org. Rainbow Cone and Strange Brew will be at the Library from 3:30–7:00pm giving out FREE ice cream or FREE cold brew to registrants!
Friends of the Green Hills Library Book Sale Presale Wednesday, May 8: 4–6pm* *Friends members only; join at the door for $5! I was looking back at last year’s May/ June Newsletter and saw that as I was writing, we were under a severe weather threat with more rain and snow to come! Here I am writing again, but this time from the comfort of my home as the Library is closed due to the polar vortex. Luckily, by the time this newsletter is delivered, we will be enjoying much warmer weather! I love history so I’m very excited to learn more about the six wives of Henry VIII at one of our adult program offerings in May. Only one of these ladies lives had a happy ending! When I was in school, I remember the way we learned about what happened to them was by this rhyme: “divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived!” If you are looking for things to do this summer, make sure you register for our “100 Things to Do in Chicago. We live in a city full of wonderful amenities and we should take advantage of exploring our town. Space for this program is limited to 90 adults, so make sure you register. And for all ages, we invite you to sign up for our Reading Program over the summer. Geocache Competition Saturday, June 3–Saturday, August 3 Visit participating area libraries using clues and coordinates to find hidden geocaches. For each cache you find at a participating library, you earn a drawing ticket for a $25 gift card. To be eligible for the drawing, your library card must be in good standing. All ages welcome. Register and obtain your official clue card any time starting June 3. The last day to locate caches is Saturday, August 3. Let the adventure begin!
Crochet for Charity We have donated a total of 146 baby blankets, 1,054 pet beds, and 425 hats. This is an ongoing program, so bring in your donations anytime. We will accept items that are already completed or you can check out a bag with all the materials provided. We are always accepting yarn donations as long as the yarn is machine washable. All donations can be given to the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of the Library.

Visit the beautiful Chicago Botanic Garden with the Library! We’ll take a grand tram tour that travels 2.6 miles showing the entire garden grounds, highlights of 81 acres of lakes, nine garden islands, and panoramic views of these beautiful gardens. Then we’ll dine on a gourmet lunch buffet. Trip fee is $40 for residents and $50 for nonresidents (cash or check please). Fee includes all costs including transportation. No refunds. Registration starts Friday, April 19 at 9am in the 1st Floor Meeting Room. There will be a limit of 2 registrations per each individual. Adults only. Limit 26.
