Monday, June 13–Saturday, August 6 Ready, set, read! Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and log your reading to earn tickets for a chance to win one of our grand prizes. Readers in grades PreK–12 will receive weekly prizes. Grand prize tickets can be picked up at the Youth or Information Desks. This program is open to youth (ages 2+) and adults of all ages.

Registration starts Monday, June 13 at the Library or online at greenhillslibrary.org. You can also conveniently log your reading through our website.

Books, eBooks, and audiobooks checked out from the Green Hills Public Library District collection are eligible.

Summer Reading Kick-Off! Monday, June 13 • 3–7pm

Start the summer off right at the Library! Sign up for the 2016 Summer Reading Program on Monday, June 13 between 3–7pm and treat yourself to a FREE Original Rainbow Cone at the Library! Then head over to the Town Square Park gazebo for the Palos Hills Community Center’s Playing in the Park Magic Show from 7:15–8:15pm.

Geocaching Competition Monday, June 6–Saturday, August 6

Grab your scorecard at the Library and begin geocaching! Visit each participating library to find the hidden geocaches using the coordinates and clues provided on the official scorecard. Hand in your qualifying scorecard to any participating library to receive an entry in the grand prize raffle!

Did You Know?

Crochet for Charity The Crochet for Charity program is in full swing! So far, we have donated a total of 58 baby blankets and 217 pet beds. This is an ongoing program, so bring in your donations anytime. We will accept items that are already completed or you can check out a bag with all the materials provided.

Paper Shredding Saturday, May 7 • 11am–2pm I am very excited to share all the exciting activities the Library has planned for the summer!

Before all our students can enjoy time away from school, there are exams that need to be taken.

For the first time we are offering Snack and Study at the Library and hope that students will take advantage of this program.

Once exams are over, it’s time to think about summer fun, especially at the Library. Our summer reading programs for adults and youth begin on June 13. When you sign up between 3–7pm on Kickoff Day, you’ll get a free Original Rainbow Cone. Research has shown that reading over the summer helps children keep up their skills, so we hope to see you here enjoying all the fun programs!

There are also a lot of fun programs for adults, including our Dinner & a Movie night when we will be showing Star Wars: The Force Awakens while eating a delicious dinner provided by The Cheesecake Factory.

This will surely be a summer to remember!

It’s time to get rid of your spring clutter! Bring your paper goods to the South Parking Lot on Interlochen Drive and have them shredded confidentially and securely by Beaver Shredding. You are welcome to wait but it is not required.

Crochet 101 Don’t crochet? No worries! We will be hosting Crochet 101, a class where you can learn the basics, on Wednesday, May 18 and Wednesday, June 15 at 10am and 3pm. Supplies will be provided by the Library, but feel free to bring your own. For more information, please contact Amanda Rubino at (708) 598-8446 ext. 122.

Little Hats, Big Hearts We would like to participate in Little Hats, Big Hearts to help raise awareness of heart disease and congenital heart defects. If you would like to participate, please donate your red crochet/knit newborn hats to the Circulation or Information Desk on the second floor of the Library. All newborn hats will be donated to various Chicagoland hospitals and be given to babies born during the month of February. We will be collecting these red hats year round. Don’t crochet or knit? You can still help by donating red yarn. The yarn must be machine washable. No fuzzy or fun fur yarn please. For more information, please contact Amanda Rubino at (708) 598-8446 ext. 122.

Adult Programs FOTL Chicago Botanic Garden Trip* Sunday, May 22 • 9:30am–4:30pm Join us for a Friends of the Library sponsored trip to the beautiful Chicago Botanic Garden! We will be taking a grand tram tour that travels 2.6 miles showing the entire garden grounds. Then we’ll dine on a gourmet lunch buffet. Trip fee is $40 for GHPLD cardholders and $50 for nonresidents (cash or check please). Fee includes all costs including transportation. Please register at the Information Desk starting Monday, April 18 at 9am. Registration is limited to 22. This trip is for adults only.

Beyond Basic Grilling* Tuesday, June 7 • 6:30pm Spend a culinary evening with Chef Maddox learning some great ideas beyond the basic burger, buns, and garnishes. Samples will be provided. Registration is limited to 50.

Learn to relax, rest, and relieve the effects of chronic stress. No yoga experience necessary, but you must be able to get down on the floor and rest. Dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat and a blanket. Registration is limited to 20. This class is for adults only.

Learn how to customize a vase and a bowl using a cool water marble dipping technique. All materials will be provided.
