The Friends of the Library want your gently used books, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs! We are looking for newer and popular titles to be sold in our spring book sale. Please leave donations with Friends of the Library volunteers or at the Information Desk.

The Friends of the Library are proud to announce a spring book sale! Visit the Meeting Room to check out our great collection of books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, and more for sale! All of the proceeds generated from the Friends Book Sale make a significant contribution toward Friends projects which support the Green Hills Public Library District’s mission. Registration Programs marked with an asterisk (*) require registration. Unless otherwise noted, registration will begin on Friday, February 19 at 9am. A GHPLD Library card and PIN (last 4 digits of phone number) are required at the time of registration. GHPLD residents are given preference for all programs. Crochet for Charity The Crochet for Charity program is in full swing! So far, we have donated a total of 46 baby blankets and 126 pet beds. This is an ongoing program, so bring in your donations anytime. We will accept items that are already completed or you can check out a bag with all the materials provided. We are asking for yarn donations to help continue the Crochet for Charity program. D onations can be made at the Circulation or Information Desk on the second floor of the Library. Any color is accepted, especially pastel baby colors, but the yarn has to be machine washable. No fuzzy or fun fur yarn please.

Did You Know? Mango Languages Mango Languages is a free language learning service provided by the Library that combines everyday conversation skills, memory building strategies, and interactivity. This service requires no training, software downloads, or installations. It is fun, effective, and easy to use. Some of the languages included are Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian, Polish, Danish, and more! There are even programs for ESL. Dear Library Community: Spring has sprung (hopefully!) and the Library has some wonderful programs to oﬀer for both adult and youth. There will be plenty of opportunities during spring break to keep the youngsters from getting bored! Why not take advantage while they are in a program to browse our Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale? It’s been quite a while since the Friends of the Library had a book sale and they are preceding this event with a Friends Book Drive in March, so start your spring cleaning and donate your gently used books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs! The Friends and the Library thank you. If you are looking for a good book to read, our Unshelved Book Group will be discussing Fortune Smiles by Adam Johnson, and a personal favorite, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. Reserve your copy now and join the lively discussion! Don’t forget to vote in the primary election on March 15. The Library is a polling station and we will have our computer lab open for your convenience. Polls are open 6am–7pm.

Notary Service The Library offers simple Notary Public service at no cost. We strongly recommend that you call us in advance of arriving at the Library to ensure a notary is on duty. Some documents we do not notarize, so please call ahead to ask about your particular document. Documents may only be signed in the presence of the Notary Public; do not sign them before arriving at the Library. If your documents require a witness(es), you must bring them with you. Government issued photo identification must be provided at the time of the service.

Crochet 101 Don’t crochet? N o worries! We will be hosting Crochet 101, a class where you can learn the basics, on Wednesday, March 16 and Wednesday, April 20 at 10am and 3pm. Financial Planning: Helping You See the Big Picture* Thursday, April 28 • 7pm Do you picture yourself owning a new home, starting a business, or retiring comfortably? T hese are a few of the financial goals that may be important to you, and each comes with a price tag attached. That’s where financial planning comes in. Join William Hackett, a financial advisor for an informative workshop. This event is for adults only.

What’s Our Staﬀ Reading? Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari Modern Romance is a hilarious, in-depth investigation of dating in the 21st century. A hybrid of scientific data and humor, this book is a refreshing look at love in the digital age. Ansari’s unique and comical voice makes this a delightful read.

Trash? Treasure? P rofessional appraiser Rex Newell of Rex’s Antiques will discuss current trends in the antique markets and offer a suggested value of your antiques. The first 40 registrants to sign up will have one hand-held item appraised. Only one item per household. Tickets for appraisal will be available starting Monday, February 22 at 9am at the Information Desk. Please no firearms, Native American, or Oriental items. R egistration is required for spectators. Pretty Pinteresting: Terrariums*

Spring Flowers: A Painting Workshop*

Monday, March 28 • 6:30pm

Make a beautiful open glass terrarium at the Library! All materials will be provided. Registration is limited to 35. This event is for adults only.

Beginners welcome! S pring flowers will be our inspiration for this fun, hands-on workshop guided by Christine Thornton. First you’ll choose a flower to draw on watercolor paper. Then you’ll learn to paint with watercolor pencils and bring your drawing to life with color. Registration is limited to 30. This workshop is for adults only.

Simple Spring Meals* Monday, March 14 • 6:30pm Chef Maddox will demonstrate a delectable menu of spring asparagus and trio of mushroom strudel, chicken Provence style, and lemon curd tart with caramelized Italian meringue. This is surely an evening not to be missed. Samples will be provided. Registration is limited to 50. This event is for adults only.

The Life of Amelia Earhart Tuesday, March 22 • 10am Celebrate Women’s History Month with a captivating presentation about Amelia Earhart. Historian Jim Gibbons will present the life of the woman known as “Lady Lindy”, an American Aviation legend that on her final flight simply vanished. Did she drown at sea, or land on an island to live out the rest of her life? This event is for adults only.

Join us for a morning movie! W e will be watching Steve Jobs. P opcorn, soda, and movie theater snacks will be served! This event is for adults only.

Grandbaby Cakes Tasting and Book Signing* Tuesday, April 12 • 6:30–8:00pm Celebrate vintage cake recipes and family memories with nationally recognized food blogger, Jocelyn Delk Adams, as she debuts her first cookbook, Grandbaby Cakes: Modern Recipes, Vintage Charm, Soulful Memories. Samples of Jocelyn’s tasty cakes will be provided! Copies of Ms. Adams’s book will be available for sale at the Library. Registration is limited to 90. This event is for ages 13 and up.

Unshelved Book discussions will take place on the last Wednesday of the month at 7pm at different locations around the community. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk one month prior to each meeting for GHPLD cardholders. Adults of all ages are welcome to participate!

This hands-on class is for beginners. We will start with teaching you how to use a mouse and keyboard. Other topics include minimizing/maximizing windows, deleting items, and Internet searching. Teen/Tween Programs Teen/Tween Photo Booth* Tuesday, March 8 • 6pm Come to the Library for a fun night in our photo booth! W e will have a photo station filled with cool props and backgrounds where you can take pictures on the Fuji Instant Mini Camera. T hen, we will make photo holders to display your new snapshots. One lucky person will win the instant camera! Registration is limited to 25. Ages 10–17.

Teen/Tween D.I.Y. Planters* Thursday, April 7 • 6pm Come to the Library and make cute little planters! We will decorate our planters with faces, then plant succulents in them. Registration is limited to 25. Ages 10–17.

Teen/Tween Movie Night: Jurassic World (PG-13)* Thursday, April 14 • 6pm Snack on pizza and pop while we watch Jurassic World. One lucky person will win a copy of the movie! Registration closes the day before the program and is limited to 30. Ages 10–17.

Teen/Tween Paint and Sip* Tuesday, April 19 • 6pm Sip on sparkling punch and snack on desserts as you paint a beautiful picture on canvas with artist Christine Thornton! Registration is limited to 30. Ages 10–17.
