CoaCh of the year aWard BRAD WOOLSEY

A large part of the success of the Greeneville Greene Devils basketball team this season was coach Brad Woolsey. Though he credits all wins to his players, Woolsey coached the Devils to the state tournament semifinals and has been named Best of Preps Coach of the Year. The Devils faced a tough schedule early in the year, one that had them with a 5-7 record toward the end of December. Woolsey, though, adjusted the scheme a bit and motivated his team. The Devils wound up finishing the regular season with a 19-9 record. They won the district and region championships, and they defeated Knox Carter 55-51 in the sectional round to reach the state tournament for the first time since winning back-to-back state titles in 2021 and 2022. Against Munford in the opening round of the state tournament, Woolsey and the Devils battled for three and a half quarters before blowing the doors off in the final minutes to win 63-46. They lost 55-47 in the semifinals to eventual state champion Upperman, finishing the season with a 26-12 record.
