Parents now pay more for childcare than housing across the U.S.
By Stacy M Brown Black Press USA Senior National Correspondent
Childcare is draining American families with a force that has begun to rival housing costs and new national analysis shows that in cities across the country parents are paying more to care for their children than to keep a roof over their heads Researchers at LendingTree found that infant care exceeds average rent in 11 of the nation’s 100 largest metro areas while childcare for two children exceeds rent in 85 cities across the country

Living On Earth For Heaven
Through our faith the Lord gives us entitlement to heaven
Yet we must earn our way
The U S Constitution gives us entitlement to a citizen’s rights
Yet we must keep vigil to protect those rights
The struggle to forge a path to heaven directs us to honor our Creator and be good to each other
The struggle to live our constitutional rights requires us to attend to the interpretation and application of laws
We live on earth regularly adjusting our living, looking forward to an eternal peace
We live on earth hoping to regularly realize benefits of a free nation
We live on earth for peace in heaven
We live on earth for peace on earth
Is not our struggle in living on earth working toward heaven the same

Any money collected from other agencies should be paid to the County Commission to reimburse for this advance The advance will allow the ambulance service to continue operating while we seek a more permanent solution to its problems
Vickie Colson was recently chosen as Chair of the GEMS when other members resigned She informed the County Commission of the crisis financial problems and asked for assistance in continuing the vital work of the ambulance service in Greene County Colson also informed the Commission that Chris Jones GEMS current Executive Director, had submitted his resignation and that the board would be responsible for directing and supervising operations until a new director is found and can be placed in that position
Other surrounding rural counties including Sumter, Pickens and Hale have also had problems in maintaining ambulance services in a situation with isolated and aging rural populations, low reimbursement rates from Medicare and Medicaid, and the general uncertainties of the future financial stability of rural health care under the Trump budget cuts
In talking with Ms Colson it seems that the Greene County EMS is in need of more guaranteed revenue sources to subsidize operations and capital expenses, like maintaining and expanding the ambulance fleet Beyond the County Commission the municipalities, gaming, the fire departments and others will need to make annual guaranteed allocations for the ambulance services
Another possibility is to raise the advalorem milage property tax rate to support the ambulance service
The County Commission stepped up to the plate to assure the continuance of ambulance services in Greene County but all of us, residents of the county, businesses and industries, fire departments and others will need to stand firm in figuring a way forward for this vital and needed service
Zohran Mamdani to be sworn in as New York City mayor by Sen Bernie Sanders and AG Letitia James
By Ben Kamisar, HBCU News
Incoming New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani will be sworn into office in January by state Attorney General Letitia James and Sen Bernie Sanders, I-Vt , his fellow democratic socialist Sanders will oversee the mayor-elect’s ceremonial swearing-in at a New Year ’s Day block party while James will formally swear in Mamdani at midnight when his term officially begins In a news release announcing the events, the transition noted that Sanders’ “unapologetic progressive values inspired Zohran to run for office in the first place ” It is an honor to be sworn in by two leaders I have admired for years: Attorney General Tish James and Senator Bernie Sanders Attorney General James has taken on powerful interests in her defense of New Yorkers and embodied the principle of equal justice before the law Mamdani said in a statement
“Senator Bernie Sanders laid the foundations for our movement with his steadfast commitment to the dignity of working people and his belief in a government that serves the many, not just the few I can think of no better leaders to help usher in a new era for New York City, Mamdani said Mamdani who beat former New York Gov Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in last month s election, is set to become mayor of the country s largest city on Jan 1 (and its first Muslim mayor) Mamdani campaigned with Sanders, as he electrified the same progressive electorate locally that the senator from Vermont activated in his two presidential bids
James was one of Mamdani s most prominent endorsements from a state where many major Democrats tried to keep their distance from the progressive candidate As the Democratic primary was conducted by ranked choice which allowed voters to rank up to five candidates (in order of preference), James announced she was ranking Mamdani third on her ballot In October, James spoke at a rally with Mamdani shortly after she was indicted on fraud charges tied to a mortgage loan (a federal judge later tossed that indictment)
“He is a leader fighting for a better future for this city, and he, like me, knows what it’s like to be attacked, to be called names to be threatened to be harassed ” James said at the time

Immig r ation r aids in New Or leans: a bait-and-switch on public safety
By Marc Morial, President and CEO, National
Urban League
TriceEdneyWire com)What we are seeing unfold in our community is not public safety; it is a political stunt wrapped in badges armored vehicles and military uniforms ” –U S Rep Troy Carter
The Trump administration vowed its south Louisiana immigration sweep would target violent criminals
In reality a mere handful of those swept up in “Operation Catahoula Crunch,” have criminal histories of any kind Far more of those detained have been accused of no wrongdoing and hold authorization for them to live and work in the United States
Meanwhile, school absences have spiked, sick and injured people – even pregnant women in labor –are avoiding medical care Hotel and restaurant staff aren t showing up to work threatening New Orleans’ vital tourism industry
Like immigration sweeps in other cities, Operation Catahoula Crunch is an abject failure and a bait-and-switch: the promise to take dangerous criminals off the street was replaced with a a ruthless racial profiling initiative that accomplishes nothing but terrifying political theater
Public safety is the freedom to walk to work without fear, to send your children to school with confidence to seek medical care when it is needed and to trust that the laws will be applied fairly
Safety is not a press conference It is not a show of force for its own sake And it is certainly not the indiscriminate use of raids that destabilize families disrupt workplaces and sow distrust between communities and the institutions sworn to serve them When the vast majority
Cong r ess went home. Health Car e didn’t get fixed. Americans pay the price.
By Julianne Malveaux (TriceEdneyWire com)
Congress is has headed home again, leaving behind a familiar mess
-
Health care costs are rising insurance premiums are climbing, millions of people are struggling to stay covered and lawmakers have once more failed to act This is not a surprise
macare subsidies ” These credits lowered monthly insurance premiums for people who purchase coverage through the health insurance marketplaces During the pandemic Congress expanded them, making coverage more affordable for millions of working- and middle-class families including older adults not yet eligible for Medicare, gig workers, and the self-employed
of those detained in these raids have no criminal record, the narrative that these efforts are taking the worst of the worst off the streets crumbles under its own weight We are left with a strategy that confuses immigration status a civil matter with criminality That confusion is not just a harmless mistake It drains resources from the genuine work of crime prevention and investigation It chills cooperation with law enforcement especially among witnesses and victims who are essential partners in solving serious crimes It sends the message that compliance and authorization don t matter that even if you follow the rules if you’re part of a targeted community you are vulnerable New Orleans understands resilience We know what it means to rebuild from devastation, to hold together through storms, both literal and political Our city’s strength has always come from neighbors who show up for one another: cooks and carpenters, artists and nurses, faith leaders and small business owners many of whom are immigrants whose labor, culture, and civic engagement knit the fabric of our local economy The raids don’t merely fray that fabric; they rip at its seams Employers lose trusted workers Children come home to empty chairs at the dinner table Congregations rally again to hold families together in the face of uncertainty the government itself has manufactured Furthermore, when individuals who have authorization to remain are detained, the legitimacy of these raids is not just questionable; it is compromised Due process is not an inconvenience; it is the bedrock of American law Immigration enforcement must be lawful, targeted, and accountable If the mechanism repeatedly ensnares authorized residents and long-time community members without criminal records then the mechanism is broken or it is being used for purposes beyond public safety
See Marc Morial, p 5
These Congressional coward love to run and hide, leaving always unfinished business and their cowardice has consequences Health care consumes roughly 17 to 18 percent of U S gross domestic product, far more than any other wealthy nation We spend nearly one out of every five dollars in the economy on health care yet our outcomes life expectancy, maternal mortality, chronic disease management are among the worst in the developed world That disconnect is not accidental It is the result of policy choices including the choice to do nothing
One of the clearest examples is Congress’s failure to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits, political opponents sometimes misleadingly referred to these as “Oba-
Those enhanced credits have now expired Not because they didn t work but because Congress (including Democrats) chose not to renew them The result was immediate and predictable Premiums rose, in some cases sharply For some families monthly costs increased by hundreds of dollars Many people responded the only way they could: by downgrading coverage, taking on higher deductibles, or dropping insurance altogether Coverage did not disappear o
did
This matters not only to individual households but to the entire health care system When people lose affordable coverage, they delay care Preventable conditions worsen Emergency rooms absorb more uncompensated care Hospitals, particularly rural and safety-net hospitals, face greater financial strain Costs are shifted rather than reduced And, as always in the United States the burden falls unevenly
Health disparities are not just about biology or be-
havior They are about access affordability and policy design Black and Latino households, already more likely to be uninsured or underinsured were disproportionately affected by rising premiums Older adults aged 50 to 64 too young for Medicare but often facing higher health risks were hit particularly hard People with chronic conditions faced higher out-of-pocket costs or narrower provider networks
Geography compounds the problem Because health care is still largely administered state by state access and affordability vary dramatically depending on where you live States that refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA continue to have higher uninsured rates and worse outcomes Rural areas face hospital closures and provider shortages In effect, Americans experience different health care systems depending on their ZIP code
This fragmentation is expensive and inefficient It weakens bargaining power with drug companies and insurers It creates massive administrative waste And it normalizes inequality as a feature rather than a failure of the system
Congress’s inaction also reinforces the growing sense that health care insecurity is something individuals must navigate alone That framing is wrong Health care is not merely a personal expense; it is economic infrastructure It shapes labor markets, retirement decisions, family finances, and long-
term productivity Medical debt remains one of the leading sources of financial stress for American households, even among those who are insured What makes this moment especially troubling is that we know what works Other wealthy nations negotiate drug prices They provide universal baseline coverage They invest in primary care and prevention They achieve better outcomes at lower cost The United States does not lack technical solutions; it lacks political will Letting enhanced ACA tax credits expire was not an inevitability It was a choice one that made health insurance less affordable widened disparities, and destabilized coverage for millions of people Congress went home without fixing health care, but the consequences did not take a recess Health care policy is often discussed in abstractions budgets subsidies market dynamics But at its core, it is about who gets care, when they get it, and at what cost When Congress chooses delay over action, inequality fills the gap
A system this large this expensive and this unequal does not fail quietly It fails in bodies, budgets, and lives And every time lawmakers walk away Americans are left to pay more for less

W hen Big Tech’s thir st thr eatens our health, we must demand better
By Ben Jealous (TriceEdneyWire com) -
In Morrow County, Oregon, families are living through a crisis According to a Rolling Stone investigation mothers have suffered miscarriages
Neighbors are battling rare cancers
Local officials have raised concerns about dangerously elevated nitrate levels in the community s drinking water following the siting of a nearby Amazon data center The investigation reports that the facility’s massive water consumption up to five million gallons per day may have accelerated nitrogen migration into the aquifer faster than natural filtration can occur Amazon strongly denies any connection between its operations and these health problems
Whatever the ultimate cause of the health crisis in Oregon, the broader concern is undeniable: when data centers consume enormous amounts of water communities can face real risks And now, similar pressures are emerging in Ohio
Central Ohio already hosts about 130 data centers representing more than half the state s total In Marysville just two facilities consume roughly ten percent of the city’s entire daily water supply Amazon operates dozens of data center facilities and cam-
puses across the New Albany, Hilliard, and Dublin region Residents are watching water demand surge as new facilities are proposed
Here is what should concern every Ohioan The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a draft General National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit governing wastewater discharges from data center facilities into state waters including non-contact cooling water, cooling tower blowdown, and associated stormwater The publicly released draft does not specify nitrate limits among the listed regulated pollutants
The draft permit also relies on existing antidegradation standards that allow a lowering of water quality when deemed necessary to accommodate important social or economic development In plain terms, regulators are signaling that some degradation of water quality may be acceptable to support data center growth
This is not just about water Modeling by researchers affiliated with the California Institute of Technology suggests that air pollution associated with data center growth could contribute to approximately 1,300 premature deaths annually nationwide by 2030, with an estimated public health burden approaching $20 billion
But it does not have to be this way
We can build data centers today that eliminate operational water consumption entirely and with the right policy reforms, they can be built at lower total cost than conventional designs
The solution is zerowater cooling through im-
mersion systems with dry heat rejection Instead of water, servers are cooled using specialized dielectric fluids Instead of evaporative cooling towers heat is rejected through air-cooled radiators or geothermal systems In these configurations, operational water use is eliminated
Some raise concerns about the safety of dielectric cooling fluids Modern formulations are engineered to be non-toxic biodegradable and safe for humans and wildlife The answer is not avoiding zero-water systems, but requiring the safest available fluids rather than the cheapest
Industry representatives argue that zero-water cooling is too expensive That claim does not withstand scrutiny
Multiple industry analyses, pilot deployments, and academic studies indicate that zero-water data center systems increase upfront capital costs by roughly 35 to 45 percent However analyses synthesizing findings across these studies suggest that targeted policy and procurement reforms can more than offset those added costs
These reforms include streamlined permitting for zero-water systems public sharing of facility designs tied to development incentives, competitive bidding requirements, bulk purchasing cooperatives, standardized modular systems, antitrust enforcement in cooling equipment markets and shared geothermal infrastructure where appropriate
Strong safeguards must accompany any expansion Communities deserve meaningful input on whether data centers locate nearby Facilities should be confined to industrial zones, with enforceable buffers for noise, heat, and air quality Homes and schools should be off limits Jerome Township has already enacted a moratorium on new data centers, citing utility and safety concerns Other communities across Ohio are paying close attention
The technology exists
The economics can work What remains is political will Big Tech will complain Some companies may threaten to locate elsewhere But no community should accept development that requires sacrificing clean water or public health
Whatever ultimately caused the health crisis in Oregon, Ohio communities are already feeling the strain of unchecked data center growth We know how to prevent similar harm We know it can save money
The only remaining question is whether our leaders will act in time or wait until the damage is done
Ben Jealous is the executive director of the Sierra Club, a Professor of Practice at the University of Pennsylvania and former national president and CEO of the NAACP
Taken together, these measures could reduce total project costs by more than ten percent while eliminating operational water consumption altogether In other words we can build cheaper data centers without draining aquifers or compromising drinking water
America stands between two evils
By Dr Barbara A Reynold
(TriceEdneyWire com) -
America stands between two evils and the truth is blunt enough to bruise: If Trump s birther-style executive order that is now before the Supreme Court were carried out, millions of longtime residents many of them Latino African, Caribbean, and Asian would suddenly be reclassified as non-citizens ” and candidates for deportation, even though they were born and raised here
The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) found that “ending birthright citizenship for U S babies with two unauthorized immigrant parents would increase the existing unauthorized population by 4 7 million people by 2050
Recently Trump called for halting immigration from Third-world countries, most of whom are Black or Caribbean which is part of a well-orchestrated plan to ensure White Supremacy will always govern America,, Trump released this statement after the terrible shooting of two National Guard members in Washington DC by an Afghan terrorist
When seven police died and more than 100 injured in the January 6 2021 riotous insurrection-murders there was no timely call out of the National Guard nor official criticism of deporting the white- led lawbreakers In fact, their boss, a convicted felon gave most of them pardons With Trumps declaration to pause immigration from Third World Countries is just one of many policies carefully grafted to stem the tide of America becoming a so-called majorityminority nation where people of color (Hispanic, Black Asian multiracial and others) will collectively exceed 50% of the population around 2040, according to the Brookings Institute
Among children and younger adults, the shift has already occurred Nonwhite youth are the majority in several U S states and territories including California, Texas, Florida, Hawaii New Mexico Arizona, Nevada, New Jersey, New York Maryland Delaware, Georgia, Alaska Mississippi and Washington D C These numbers contribute to the frenzy of a militarized response to Haitians Salvadorans and Africans at the border, while Europeans glide through customs with little more than a stamp and a smile Black and Brown families seeking refuge are cast as criminals, invaders, or burdens but no one applies those labels to Canadians Germans or Norwegians The double standard is all about the numbers Trump has used hateful untruths to support his crackdown against nonwhite citizens and Latinos much like was done against the Jews in Nazi Germany where they were falsely excoriated for economic setbacks For example, Trump has labeled activist Rep Jasmine Crockett (D Texas) and Vice President Kamala Harris as someone of less intelligence He has claimed that Black populations came from
“shithole countries” and recently called Somalian immigrants including Rep Ilhan Abdullah Omar, of Minneapolis who was born in Somalia “garbage ”
Equally as alarming Trump has labeled Latino immigrants as rapists and murders and cities headed by Blacks crime ridden, a justification for sending in the National Guard and ICE police which have jailed and deported hundreds of women and children For some, their skin color was their only crime in the overall goal of ridding the USA of non-white people
While politicians scream about “border security,” the continuous threat is a domestic landscape where people of color within our borders are already sicker and dying quicker not by fate but by design Communities of color breathe dirtier air live in hotter neighborhoods, and face fewer clinics and hospitals In the President’s so called Big Beautiful Bill billions of dollars are being transferred to billionaires who are never denied top of the line medical care as ordinary citizens many of whom are people of color
These are political decisions, not natural disasters When a neighborhood is zoned next to toxic chemical producers when the nearest emergency room in Black areas is 50 miles or more away when Medicaid is slashed and maternity wards close across Black counties those are choices made in statehouses and Congress
These are Populations weakened not by genetics but by policy
So, while one set of policies blocks Black and Brown people from entering the country, another set ensures those who are already here live fewer years It is a pipeline of demographic control fewer migrants coming in fewer people of color living long enough to fully thrive vote, accumulate wealth, or pass down stability to the next generation That is not a coincidence That is strategy The political and economic forces work together to keep American power structures looking the same as they did a century ago: white on top everyone else fighting for survival
This newest wave of exclusion is simply the old racial mathematics rewritten for the 21st century: Fewer migrants of color in except of course during slavery-- fewer children of color born here fewer voters of color tomorrow
It’s demographic engineering wrapped in the verbiage of patriotism
Meet of the politicians stoking anti-immigration fears know immigrants commit fewer crimes and contribute to the economy They know that “the border crisis is about political theater not public safety
So, until the nation approaches a future where all ethnic groups are treated with respect as human beings and are allowed to contribute to the excellence which diversity can bring to this nation, we will always be mere shadows of our best selves

Senate Sketches #2009.....by Hank Sander s Greed Knows No Limits!
Greed Knows No Limits A leader I know loves to say that you cannot send a lunch by a hungry boy The implication is that the hungry boy will eat some of the lunch Obviously this saying applied to more than lunches Greed Knows No Limits!
Each time I hear the particular leader make this “hungry boy statement,” I say the following in my mind: You cannot send anything by a greedy man or woman or child A hungry boy will stop when they are full but a greedy person will take it all because they never get full ” As the Christmas season is upon us and we are thinking of giving and receiving, I also think of greed Greed Knows No Limits!
Greed is defined as an intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth power or food ” To me Greed is an insatiable determination to take more than our rightful share of something I am certain many of us have our own definitions of greed Greed Knows No Limits!
Let’s look at greed on international national local and personal levels Russia is by far the largest country in the world land-wise Yet Russia is never satisfied In spite of being the largest country in the world in terms of land and nearly twice as large as China the next largest country landwise, or Canada or the United States the third and fourth largest Russia has an intense selfish desire to have more and more Russia took part of the country of Georgia in 2008 by force Then they took Crimea by force from Ukraine in 2014 Now they have been trying to take the remainder of Ukraine by force since 2022 They had previously taken a part of Moldova in the 1990s If they succeed in taking all of Ukraine, they still will not be satisfied and will try to take more Greed Knows No Limits!
The President of the United States of America is a billionaire A billion dollars is a thousand million dollars It is more than one person can spend in a lifetime Yet this President wants more and more He sells sneakers, Bibles, watches, fragrances, etc While in office he uses the government to get more economic footholds in various countries around the world by investments in land and building Crypto currency, which the U S government regulates, is a major source of new wealth for the Trumps
Mar c Morial
Greed Knows No Limits!
Elon Musk is the richest person in the world, yet he is nowhere near satisfied He recently entered into a salary arrangement with his car company that will make him a trillionaire A trillion dollars is a thousand billion dollars He also used his position to cut governmental services and to acquire information to create greater personal wealth He was determined to cut funds for USAID which provides medicine and food in crisis areas of Africa and other continents Greed Knows No Limits!
The richest people in the country have more money than they can ever spend However they supported cutting about a trillion dollars over ten years in funding for basic health care (Medicaid and Medicare) and other programs so they could have big tax breaks They supported cutting resources that provided food for starving children and Medicine for illness prevention and treatment Greed Knows No Limits!
Greed is not just about money and material things Some people are greedy for positions of power Others are greedy for status Some others are greedy for sexual conquests Still others are greedy for oppression of others, etc Greed Knows No Limits! I see a merging of greed for money political power mass media and social media Some of the rich and powerful are buying up mass media companies Others are creating social media companies They already have the power of mass wealth but want so much more Many hold positions in President Trump’s Cabinet Greed Knows No Limits!
The opposite of greed does not mean not wanting anything The opposite of greed is to want things for others instead of ourselves We want for the community instead of for ourselves We want for the least of these rather than more for ourselves and those like us We want for true democracy so that voters can pick their representatives instead of representatives picking their voters We want health care for those in need We want food for the hungry The true Christmas spirit gives rather than takes Greed Knows No Limits!
Now on to the Daily Diary
Law enforcement should be focused on evidence-based priorities: violent crime trafficking exploitation City and federal agencies should invest in community policing models that build trust, not fear Employers should be partners in compliance, clear on their responsibilities and confident that adherence to the law protects their workforce Courts and administrative bodies must have the resources to process immigration cases efficiently and fairly, so people are not trapped for years in limbo And elected leaders at every level must speak with moral clarity: We will pursue safety without sacrificing justice and we will measure success not by theatrics but by outcomes that make neighborhoods tangibly safer

New Orleans has never been defined by exclusion Our music our food our faith traditions our entrepreneurial spirit these are the gifts of many peoples many journeys, woven into something singular and beautiful Raids that cast wide nets in the name of public safety but capture mostly non-criminal authorized residents are not a solution; they are a distraction They do not protect us; they divide us And they risk something precious: the trust without which no city can truly thrive
Public safety and human dignity are not opposing goals They rise and fall together We can choose both

On October 1st 2025 the Trump administration ended the $7,500 federal tax credit for EV buyers The tax credit was originally enacted in 2022 by the Biden administration to encourage the purchase of EVs and support sustainable transportation nationwide The credit was a key incentive for consumers to adopt EVs Its recent expiration comes with a larger tax and spending budget to reduce government spending and boost U S oil production The intention of the Trump

The spike in expenses lands at a moment when the federal shutdown has blocked funding for 140 Head Start programs that serve 65,000 preschoolers At least 20 programs have partially or fully closed, directly affecting nearly 10 000 children whose families now face soaring out-ofpocket Childcare costs with no federal support
Matt Schulz, chief consumer finance analyst for LendingTree, called the price crush unavoidable for many families “Spending almost $1,300 a month on Childcare is a massive burden for parents but most families don’t have another choice Schulz stated They can t stay home They don t have family or friends they can rely on for Childcare They have no other option but to put up a ton of money each month for Childcare ”
According to LendingTree full-time infant care across the 100 largest metro areas averages $1,282 per month, compared with $1,716 for a two-bedroom rental But in cities like Springfield, Massachusetts, parents now spend $1 996 on infant care compared with $1 734 for a twobedroom apartment That fifteen percent gap is the highest in the country Milwaukee follows at nearly fifteen percent Wichita, Omaha, Baltimore, Buffalo, Syracuse, Spokane, Minneapolis, Toledo, and Worcester also report infant care costs that outpace rent by significant margins
The financial blow becomes more punishing for households with two children Families in Omaha are paying $2,891 a month for Childcare for an infant and a four-yearold more than twice the city’s average monthly rent of $1 368 Milwaukee and Buffalo are close behind with Childcare there also costing more than double the rent Households in Springfield, Syracuse, Toledo, Spokane, Minneapolis, Wichita, and Rochester all face gaps of seventy percent or more between Childcare costs and rent
LendingTree notes that while the situation is severe in many regions, the pressure is also felt in cities where rent is extremely high In Miami, San Jose, and San Francisco, rent still exceeds Childcare costs but Childcare remains a heavy expense that continues to climb Nationally the price of Childcare increased more than thirty percent between 2020 and 2024, driven in part by shortages of early childhood educators and widespread Childcare deserts in rural and low-income regions
For many households the federal shutdown has turned an already strained system into a breaking point Without funding, Head Start programs in more than a dozen states have already halted classes or reduced hours Advocates warn that families who lose subsidized early childhood education face few alternatives especially in communities that already lack available Childcare slots
Schulz said families should brace for continued financial pressure “High rent and Childcare costs create massive challenges for most young families ” he said However, to the degree possible, it is important to not fully ignore long-term goals like retirement and emergency savings ”
cuts was to save billions of dollars in the long run and to pressure carmakers to move production to the United States creating increased jobs
The loss of the credit poses some consequences for buyers and manufacturers alike It is likely that it will decrease demand for EVs According to a recent CNN story, this means that
Job Repor t
“prices in real terms will immediately rise The story also emphasizes that many consumers rushed to buy EVs while the credits still lasted in August and September This could result in many people choosing not to buy EVs and in turn decreasing sales in the last three months of 2025
As EVs are far more costly than gas cars, the likely outcome of the cuts is that many will be unable to afford the switch The impact is expected to be so dire that analysts who originally forecasted EVs to take up some 48 percent of the U S market share by 2030 have now downgraded predictions to 37 percent
Many carmakers have begun actively responding to the recent policy changes It is expected that many will either have to scale back or cancel new EV models Stephanie Valdez Streaty, director of industry insights at Cox Au-
Employers added 64 000 jobs nationwide in November a modest gain following months of data disruptions caused by the federal government shutdown The unemployment rate rose to 4 6 percent up from 4 4 percent in September the last month for which a full labor force survey was completed The increase places unemployment at its highest level in four years
Behind the headline figures, federal employment continued to fall sharply Since January when Donald Trump returned to office federal payrolls have declined by 271 000 positions The November report reveals continued reductions tied to deferred resignation programs and layoffs that accelerated earlier in the fall according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics
The rise in unemployment has been uneven, with Black workers experiencing some of the most severe impacts Black men ages 20 and older saw their unemployment rate jump from 6 6 percent in September to 7 5 percent in November Black women ages 20 and older recorded an unemployment rate of 7 1 percent in November, slightly lower than September ’s 7 5 percent but still higher than any other racial or ethnic group
Long-term unemployment has also become more pronounced for Black workers Black women who are unemployed are typically out of work for 14 5 weeks, while Black men face average unemployment spells of 12 1 weeks By comparison white women experience unemployment lasting about 8 6 weeks and white men about 9 6 weeks, according to the National Women s Law Center s review of federal labor data
The November report shows that overall job growth remains concentrated in a narrow set of sectors Healthcare added more than 46 000 jobs while construction employment rose by 28,000 Manufacturing lost 5,000 jobs, and transportation and warehousing shed nearly 18,000 positions Leisure and hospitality also declined, reflecting broader weakness outside a handful of growth industries
Federal officials cautioned that November s data carries higher-than-usual margins of error due to the shutdown-related survey delays Even so, economists reviewing the report noted that revisions to late summer and early fall payrolls showed fewer jobs than initially reported reinforcing signs of a cooling labor market
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the number of people unemployed for more than six months rose to 1 9 million in November up from 1 7 million a year earlier Wage growth slowed to 3 5 percent over the past year the weakest pace since before the pandemic, adding pressure on households facing elevated prices and limited job mobility
The National Women’s Law Center said it will continue monitoring labor market data by race, gender, and industry to assess how job losses and prolonged unemployment affect women and families as federal employment contracts and hiring remain subdued
She referred people to a “DEI-related discrimination” fact sheet posted by the agency and urged affected workers to contact the agency “as soon as possible
Black women are disproportionately affected by rising unemployment rates but this is what the EEOC chooses to focus on Only a few hours before Lucas posted, Vice President JD Vance posted an article he said “describes the evil of DEI and its consequences ” Lucas cosigned the post, writing, “Absolutely right @JDVance And precisely because this widespread, systemic, unlawful discrimination primarily harmed white men, elites didn t just turn a blind eye; they celebrated it Absolutely unacceptable; unlawful; immoral White supremacy is such weak-ass behavior How are you the superior race but constantly being victimized by the races you deem lesser? Make it make sense y all Lucas was named as the EEOC chair in November Trump appointed her to the EEOCin 2020 during his forst term and elevated her to chair in 2025 Under her direction the agency has shifted focus to “rooting out unlawful DEI-motivated race and sex discrimination ” David Glasgow, executive director of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at the NYU School of Law, told AP that Lucas’ post reveals a “fundamental misunderstanding of what DEI is ” It s really much more about creating a culture in which you get the most out of everyone who you re bringing on board, where everyone experiences fairness and equal opportunity, including white men and members of other groups, Glasgow added The Meltzer Center tracks lawsuits that could affect DEI initiatives, and it s found that while it has been used to discriminate in several isolated incident there hasn t been any kind of systematic evidence that white men are being discriminated against ” Glasgow pointed out that CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are overwhelmingly white men with white men still making up the majority of corporate leadership state and federal legislators and other notable fields “If DEI has been this engine of discrimination against white men, I have to say it hasn’t really been doing a very good job at achieving that,” Glasgow said Jenny Yang, a former EEOC chair, told AP that it was unusual” and problematic” that the agency is now prioritizing the civil rights of one group It suggests some sort of priority treatment, Yang said That s not something that sounds to me like equal opportunity for all She noted how under Lucas the agency has completely deprioritized workplace discrimination cases filed by transgender workers “It worries me that a message is being sent that the EEOC only cares about some workers and not others ” Yang told AP
It’s genuinely disheartening how much progress the Trump administration has managed to roll back in only a year America has become far worse for Black, brown, and LGBTQ citizens, and the white folks who voted for this are still broke So much winning
tomotive told CNBC in July 2025 that the EV tax credit cuts are like the training wheels are being taken off” of a nascent technology Those training wheels have helped balance and support EV adoption,” she added Electric vehicles are more climate sustainable than gasoline cars The shift to EVs has been key to promoting climate consciousness and decreasing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere As customers stick with gasoline cars air quality levels and the environment hang in the balance

An unveiling ceremony of the statue representing Virginia in the Capitol took place in Emancipation Hall featuring Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Republican Virginia Gov Glenn Youngkin, Virginia's congressional delegation and Democratic Gov -elect Abigail Spanberger Johnson said more than 200 members of Johns' family were on hand, listening on as the ceremony included renditions of How Great Thou Art, Ain t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me 'Round" and "Total Praise" performed by the Eastern Senior High School choir from Washington
"We are here to honor one of America's true trailblazers a woman who embodied the essence of the American spirit in her fight for liberty and justice and equal treatment under the law, the indomitable Barbara Rose Johns," Johnson said Johns was 16 years old in 1951 when she led a student strike for equal education at R R Moton High School in Farmville, Virginia The students' cause gained the support of NAACP lawyers who filed a lawsuit that would become one of the five cases that the U S Supreme Court reviewed in Brown v Board of Education The high court's landmark 1954 decision declared "separate but equal" public schools unconstitutional Johns later married the Rev William Powell and became Barbara Rose Johns Powell raised five children and was a librarian in the Philadelphia Public Schools She died at 56 in 1991 "She put God first in her life She was brave bold determined strong wise unselfish warm and loving " said Terry Harrison, one of her daughters
The statue shows the young Johns standing to the side of a lectern, holding a tattered book over her head Its pedestal is engraved with the words "Are we going to just accept these conditions or are we going to do something about it?" It also features a quote from the Book of Isaiah: "And a little child shall lead them "
The statue replaces one of Lee that was removed in December 2020 from the Capitol where it had represented Virginia for 111 years The removal occurred during a time of renewed national attention over Confederate monuments after the death of George Floyd and was relocated to the Virginia Museum of History & Culture
"The Commonwealth of Virginia will now be properly represented by an actual patriot who embodied the principle of liberty and justice for all, and not a traitor who took up arms against the United States to preserve the brutal institution of chattel slavery " Jeffries said at the ceremony Johns' sister Joan Johns Cobbs read from a journal entry by Johns: And then there were times I just prayed, God, please grant us a new school, please let us have a warm place to stay where we won't have to keep our coats on all day to stay warm God please help us We are your children too '"
The Johns piece is part of the National Statuary Hall Collection at the Capitol, in which each state can contribute two statues The other statue representing Virginia is of George Washington National Statuary Hall displays 35 of the statues Others are in the Crypt, the Hall of Columns and the Capitol Visitor Center Johnson said the Johns statue will be placed in the Crypt
Former Democratic Virginia Gov Ralph Northam had requested the removal of the Lee statue In December 2020, a state commission recommended replacing Lee's statue with a statue of Johns
The Johns statue sculpted by Steven Weitzman of Maryland, received final approval from the Architect of the Capitol and the Joint Committee on the Library in July Johns is also featured in a sculpture at the Virginia Civil Rights Memorial outside the state Capitol in Richmond
The former high school is now a National Historic Landmark and museum
"It's an incredibly profound moment, a moment to stand in a tar shack classroom with a hot potbelly stove as a heater tar paper walls shabby desks right where 16-yearold Barbara Rose Johns courageously organized her schoolmates and stood up to the lie the lie was separate but equal," Youngkin said of the museum

Both Kwanzaa and Christmas empower Black people
By A Peter Bailey (TriceEdneyWire com) -
Those people who for whatever reason are nervous about or hostile toward the celebration of Kwanzaa (Dec 26 - Jan 1) among an increasing number of Black people, need to chill They are way off the mark Christmas, as celebrated by Christians is - or at least is supposed to be - a religious celebration, whereas Kwanzaa is a cultural celebration Both have a strong spiritual element It is not the fault of Kwanzaa celebrants that too many people treat Christmas more like a cul-
tural celebration than a religious one That is something that Christians have to deal with, the re-taking of their religious celebration from the merchants who regard it as an opportunity for dollar bills to be rained upon them
The mission of the seven-day Kwanzaa celebration is to encourage Black people, no matter what their personal religious beliefs their personal political beliefs, their nationality or their ethnicity, to strive for individual and group achievement and ex-
cellence
The seven principles of Kwanzaa pertain to the family, the community, the nation and the race They are unity (Umoja); self-determination (Kujichagulia); collective work and responsibility (Ujima); cooperative economics (Ujamaa); purpose (Nia); creativity (Kuumba); and faith (Imani)
Dr Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 as a call for both reflection and action It has remained just that for the past 59 years As more and more of
us commit ourselves to its principles there will be a much-needed psychological change among significant numbers of our people After a while, the major holdouts will not be those people who have religious concerns about Kwanzaa but those pathetic secular types who are vehemently opposed to anything that has a Black perspective
Many of them prefer to remain exotic pets of White folks This is fine because such accommodationists are irrelevant to Kwanzaa’s
overall mission
Happy Kwanzaa!
