2024 Impact Report
Our Mission Furnishing Homes. Changing Lives.
Our Vision
The Green Chair Project reuses furnishings donated by our community to help our neighbors in need facing the challenges of homelessness, crisis and disaster.
Our Values Choice • Green • Nimble • Dignity Stewardship • Collaboration • Compassion
Dear friends,
At The Green Chair Project, we believe lives change when individuals and families have the security of well-equipped homes. Thanks to your generosity – our amazing donors, partners, volunteers, and staff – we made an enormous impact in 2024. Your support provided:
• 1,734 children with a bed of their own
• 1,144 households with the essential furnishings needed to make a house a home
This year, as we celebrate 15 years of service to our community, we see a growing need for our programs. In response, we remain focused on securing new sources of funding, expanding community initiatives with partners, and managing with excellence. These efforts will enable us to increase our impact and serve more families who urgently need our help.
We are deeply grateful to have you on this journey with us. Thank you for continuing to support our mission and for believing in the power of home.
In gratitude,
Rae Marie Czuhai, Chief Executive Officer
Mujteba Haidri, Board Chair
Vicky Serany, Past Board Chair
How We Serve
We provide individuals and families with the household furnishings and essential home items they need to create a comfortable and nurturing environment through three cornerstone programs:
Essentials for Home
Individuals and families choose from carefully coordinated household packages – furniture, decor, and bath and kitchen wares – giving them the dignity of a true shopping experience.
Sweeter Dreams
With 1 in 30 Wake County Public School students lacking a bed of their own, we help ensure the benefits of a good night’s sleep with a bed, pillow, sheets and comforter.
Shop for Good
Not all our essential furnishing and bedding needs can be met solely through donations. To fill the gap, we sell donated items that are eclectic, unique, or highly sought-after through on-line and in-person shopping venues.
Volunteers
Our Volunteers are simply amazing! They are the heart of our work, devoting their expertise, compassion, and more than 10,000 hours a year to ensure the families we serve have a house that truly feels like a home.

I just love this place. It is a fabulous community of people doing wonderful things. It is a blend of community service and creativity and helping those who need help, through repurposing.”

Turning a House into a Home
Home furnishings are essential in creating supportive, healthy living spaces that help alleviate homelessness. “
I’m so thankful to The Green Chair Project. As a senior, I often feel forgotten, but they made me feel just as important as everyone else. They lifted a huge financial burden by providing everything I needed for my home, and now I love starting each day with a cup of coffee on my comfy couch.”

Partner Agencies
We serve those coming out of homelessness, crisis or disaster through partnerships with more than 100 government and nonprofit agencies. These critical and talented organizations give an immeasurable level of effort to ensure that, together, we can serve those in need in our community.
