celebrate america 250 See WHAT true grit looks like at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where the American Spirit exhibit (running through Dec. 31) honors the players, coaches and contributors who served during times of military conflict and celebrates the deep connection between football and country. On view at the Massillon Museum, Driving Forces: The Lincoln Highway Journey (running through Oct. 18) offers a deep dive into the nation’s first coastto-coast highway that fueled America’s intrepid spirit, while also putting towns like Massillon on the map. In Canton, the National First Ladies Library & Museum presents The Eras Exhibit (running through April 2027), capturing the enduring power and influence of first ladies through each of America’s defining periods. The America 250 spotlight also shines brightly on Ohio’s cinematic legacy. From Hollywood blockbusters to rare archival footage, Ohio Goes to the Movies brings free screenings to communities across the state — including Canton. The year-long movie series highlights Ohioan’s significant contributions to the cinematic arts and how those stories have shaped our collective cultural identity.

200 Years of Massillon “ A PROUD PAST LOOKING FOR A WONDERFUL FUTURE.”
That’s the phrase Rudy Turkal uses to capture the essence of Massillon, a city celebrating its bicentennial this year. As a lifelong custodian of its history and dedicated Lions Club member, Turkal brings decades of community service, volunteerism and historical perspective to his role on the Bicentennial Committee. Massillon’s bicentennial celebration bridges the gap between industrial roots and a modern spirit, fueling community pride with a lineup of parades, concerts and exhibits. By spotlighting the legacy of the steel industry and the Ohio and Erie Canal, the festivities honor the city’s early inhabitants while inviting young Massillonians to feel proud of their hometown’s history. Turkal’s hope for the future is simple: moderate, intentional growth that keeps the city safe and affordable. Ultimately, he believes Massillon’s greatest legacy lies in family — and he has high hopes for the city’s next 200 years.

Connecting Our Community
Galvanized by a life of service, veterans in Stark County are writing new chapters as local entrepreneurs. Find a new local favorite or two. BY KITTY STEVENS IN MASSILLON, Paradigm Shift Brewing is all about community, craft beer and thinking outside the box — something owner Michael Malinowski credits in part to his early years in the U.S. Army infantry. Try one of 20 beers on tap with inventive names and flavors, including Dragulator bock, Goat Roper porter and Island Juice coconut cream ale. Savor wines inspired by the adventures of the Rohr family, and Chris Rohr’s almost seven years in the Marine Corps, at Lost Trail Winery. With a tasting room that transports you to the Adirondacks, a patio overlooking a pond and woodlands and wine bottles pretty enough to collect, this winery feels like a peaceful getaway. Husband and wife duo Terry and Peggy Miller roast singleorigin beans to perfection at Cherry Blend Coffee Roasters. Their passion for java and customer service was forged by three decades running a painting business and earlier pursuits, including Terry’s six years in the Army Reserve. Stop by weekly Saturday tastings to say hello and get paired with your perfect blend. For a challenging group adventure, Escape Room Downtown‘s themed puzzle rooms center around Canton’s fascinating history, co-founded by six-year Army Reserve veteran Chuck Duplain. Adults can unwind with hand-rolled cigars in the armchair-lined
lounge at Cigar 30. Joined in the venture by wife Sondra and son Dylan, Mike Kraus kicked off his career serving six years in the U.S. Navy. The Kraus family loves to help guests discover unique offerings, whether new to cigars or a seasoned afficionado. Need some help getting around? Leading the pack in luxury party buses, limos and motor coaches, LED Transportation ensures every trip is smooth, safe and unique.
