Dine, sip, play and stay at award-winning, nationally recognized venues in Stark County. |
By Kristen Hampshire
STARK COUNTY IS HOME to one of the most romantic getaways in Ohio, a AAA four-diamond resort, a USA Today Restaurant of the Year and numerous Craft Brewers Cup winners. Local venues with stacks of accolades offer blue-chip service — and the Midwest hospitality locals and visitors appreciate. Explore these local gems and see for yourself.
DID YOU KNOW? Grapes in a Glass in downtown Canton was recognized by Wine Spectator for the second consecutive year as a Best Restaurant for Wine.
Dine, sip, stay and repeat at Gervasi Vineyard Resort & Spa , nestled on a 55-acre Tuscan estate that feels an “old world” away. It’s a special occasion destination with a variety of accommodations, from villas to a restored farmhouse and boutique inn. Any occasion is a treat when you sip and savor time at Gervasi, whether for a chef-prepared meal at The Bistro or casual afternoon on the patio at The Piazza. Gervasi rolls out the red-carpet treatment with curated experiences throughout the grounds, including shopping and a spa ranked among the 2025 Top 10 Spas of the Year by Spas of America.
Reservations for Two: Book a private Couples Spa Suite for up to three hours, complete with award-winning house wine and accoutrements like chocolate-covered strawberries. The estate setting is a fitting, peaceful backdrop and one of the Most Romantic Getaways in Ohio (U.S. News & World Report).
Gather the Girls: Take a culinary class, wine down at one of the property’s five dine-anddrink destinations, save time for the spa and rise and shine with yoga on the estate. Customize an experience with a bit of thrill — live music — and lots of chill. You’ll see why Gervasi earned an AAA Four-Diamond designation.
Grapes with the Gang: Celebrate an important milestone or gather with friends just because. Kick off your estate stay with a wine tasting or reserve a private dining space at The Bistro or The Crush House. Stay for brunch and bubbly. And on Tuesdays, your four-legged family can tag along for Pups on The Piazza.
Location, location, as they say. If Canton’s top destinations are on your to-do list, check in at the DoubleTree by Hilton Canton Downtown, a 4-star 2025 Top Hotel in Ohio (U.S. News & World Report) in the epicenter of Canton’s entertainment and dining district. Your suite will be a fast, nineminute drive (or Uber) from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a short walk from the National First Ladies’ Library and a few blocks from the Canton Classic Car Museum. Bring swimwear for the indoor pool and start the day at the fitness center. Planning a team-building retreat? The hotel has room to spare with over 11,000 square feet of meeting space.
Downtown Canton’s eclectic and dynamic dining scene includes this Mediterranean-Italian restaurant, which follows the old-world tradition of sourcing fresh, local ingredients to prepare seasonal entrees — with a new menu most every night. Lucca Downtown’s chef says dishes will “compete for your attention.” Indeed, the venue has captured the discerning taste of critics, earning praise from OpenTable as a Diners’ Choice for Best Value and a Neighborhood Gem.
Stoke Your Appetite: Start with Limoncello Shrimp sauteed in lemon butter and served with cherry tomatoes or opt for an antipasto charcuterie tray of cured meats, cheeses, toasted nuts, marinated olives, pickled peppers and apricots.
Savor a Salad: A Cherry Tomato Caprese with fresh mozzarella carries on Italian tradition, while mixed greens with balsamic is light, bright and crisp on the palate.
Main Event: House-made Bolognese, creative risotto options and a rollcall of steaks, chops, chicken and seafood entrees make decision-making a dilemma. But if you’re visiting Lucca for the first time, don’t pass up the melt-in-your-mouth pillowy homemade tortelloni — or convince someone at your table to order it so you can sample.
While at Lucca, explore downtown’s galleries, studios, local shops and public art displays. First Fridays are especially festive.

Taggart’s offers a menu filled with delicious made from scratch food and dessert creations including our most famous legacy, The Bittner.
This landmark opened in 1922 and quickly became known as the “shack on the track” due to its close proximity to the railroad tracks that cross 7th St. The original recipes for smoking meats, bean soup, and the famous “secret relish” recipe are still being used today.
Toast to this downtown Canton destination, where a nationally recognized wine list offers selections for the moderate price palate and a fine-dining menu appointed with seafood specialties has earned Bender’s Tavern accolades as the Best Restaurant in Northern Ohio by the Ohio Restaurant & Hospitality Alliance.

scallops and crab cakes to lobster tail and Atlantic salmon. Bender’s Classic Fried Haddock is a fan favorite. And there’s no “mocking” this turtle: a 60-year-plus classic Turtle Soup served with a shot of sherry.
