With its thriving university, arts scene, historical museums and sites, food and drink, and entertainment scene, Bowling Green is filled with activities that appeal to families, friend groups, and retirees. Plan a day, a weekend, or longer filled with discovery, enrichment, and fun. By Kristina
Start at the iconic Wood County Courthouse, and check out its impressive clock tower and Richardson Romanesque architecture. Note the carvings, including Old Man Winter, on the exterior. Inside, marvel at the grand marble stairway and the painted murals showing War of 1812 Fort Meigs and area railroads and oil wells.
Head to the Wood County Museum, the carefully preserved former county infirmary or “county home,” built in 1868 for the poor, orphans, elderly, and sick. Explore the different rooms and learn about the people who lived there as you see items they used and photos of their daily lives. In one of the award-winning exhibits, learn about other “poor farms” in Ohio. In another, get the story behind one of Wood County’s most notorious murders — the stabbing of a woman by her husband — and learn how society’s view of domestic violence has changed over time. Fast-forward to another time period with a visit to nearby Snook’s Dream Cars. This recreated 1940s Texaco station houses everything auto from the 1930s to the 1970s. There are cars, from Cadillacs to Chevys to antique pedal cars, and memorabilia, from hood ornaments to seat covers to backseat touring games.
Get a feel for life on a farm in the 1930s at Carter Historic Farm. Tour the Carter Family Home with modest furnishings of the time period, including a player piano, ice box, and sewing machine. Explore the barn and property, and see chickens, sheep, and friendly cats.

Immerse your senses in many art forms at one of Bowling Green’s biggest events, the annual Black Swamp Arts Festival downtown. This festival features over 100 artists selling their hand-crafted creations, live music throughout the weekend, food trucks, juried art shows, and hands-on art activities for teens and kids.
Walk the alleys and neighborhoods around town to take in beautiful murals and public art, such as the sunny yellow mural with brilliant blue deer and pink leaves at Oak Grove Collective. A few murals showcase some of the city’s history, including scenes of downtown in the 1930s and ‘40s, in the alley next to Juniper Brewing Company.
Rock out to live music — or share your talents at open mic night — at Howard’s Club H downtown, where bands of many genres, including emo, punk, rock, and more, are featured. Another classic venue to see musicians perform is the nearby Cla-Zel Theater, a historic downtown former movie house that still has its marquee.
Expand your artistic experience at the Fine Arts Center Galleries at Bowling Green State University. The center comprises three galleries, one of which is a Japanese ceremonial art room, that showcase various free exhibitions. Free exhibits include contemporary works by nationally renowned artists, BGSU faculty, and students.
avor a delectable thin-crust pizza — try the chicken bacon ranch or Greek pizza for a different twist — at local favorite Jac & Do’s Pizza. Don’t miss the heavenly cinnamon pizza with icing for dessert. Grab a cozy booth at local favorite Campus Pollyeyes and relish the comforting flavor of its world-famous stuffed breadsticks. Choose your meat and/or veggies to build your own delicious eats.
For a heartier meal, order the Little Brown Jug steak at local gem Trotters Tavern. It’s made to order, served with the restaurant’s signature brown jug sauce on a sizzling skillet, and topped with parmesan and sautéed onions. Pair it with one of the many craft beers on tap.

Enjoy food slow-cooked in earthen pots — the way it used to be before microwaves and drive-thrus — in a tradition that brings out its dynamic flavors and its nutrients at The Clay Pot Bistro. Ingredients are sourced locally as much as possible, and the space is elegant and inviting. Dine on classic American comfort dishes blended with global flavors that pair perfectly with signature cocktails in a modern, upscale atmosphere at SamB’s.
Find your new favorite craft brews at the city’s three breweries: Juniper Brewing Company, which also offers a menu that incorporates the beer and brewing byproducts into its menu, Arlyn’s Good Beer, and Brewing Green. If you enjoy wine, make your way to Myla Marcus Winery for a glass.

Q: What are some of your flagship items that newcomers should try?
A: In the brewery, Soulshine is our award-winning flagship IPA, and Zach perfected this recipe more than a decade ago to please my palate. PICKLEBALL COURTS (CITY PUBLIC COURTS)
Pickleball has exploded in popularity, and Bowling Green keeps up with dedicated public courts — eight of them are located outside the Bowling Green Community Center. Bring your paddles and rally with locals early morning or after work. It’s fast, social, fun, and an easy way to meet new people while burning energy.
CARTER PARK Want fresh air and open space? Carter Park offers walking trails, open-field areas for frisbee or touch football, playgrounds, disc golf course, and four softball fields (also used for youth baseball). It’s the perfect balance of gentle activity and scenic chill-out time — ideal for families or solo downtime between more intense workouts.
BGSU STUDENT RECREATION CENTER If you’re a student, alum, or visiting with a guest pass, BGSU’s recreation centers offer top-tier gym equipment, indoor courts, cardio rooms, climbing-wall access, and two indoor pools. For serious gym-goers, it’s a full-service fitness hub — a solid backup when weather or time limits outdoor options.
SLATER FAMILY ICE ARENA Even when the temperature dips, you can stay active on ice. Public skate sessions and rink time at Slater Family Ice Arena are great for a fun cardio session — or for veteran skaters and pick-up hockey players who want to keep their skills sharp.
DUNBRIDGE ROAD SOCCER FIELDS If you crave open space and team energy, the Dunbridge Road Soccer Fields deliver. On weekends, local pick-up games and casual kick-arounds are common behind the Municipal Court facility — bring cleats and a ball and you might join in spontaneously.
ARROWWOOD ARCHERY RANGE For something different — and surprisingly meditative — Arrowwood Archery Range offers target-shooting lanes in a relaxed, controlled outdoor setting. This free site is great for focus-training, stress relief, and an unconventional kind of active lounging.
Dan Meyer plays a key role in shaping the fan experience at BGSU. As senior associate athletic director for resource development, he oversees fan engagement, marketing, and more and serves as sport administrator for the Falcons’ men’s basketball program.
Q: What makes Bowling Green such a vibrant sports community?
A: Bowling Green has a rich tradition of athletic success, and because of our size, the BGSU athletics experience truly feels like a family affair. Fans, coaches, and studentathletes share both triumphs and challenges, creating a tighter bond than I’ve seen anywhere else.
Q: Which game-day experiences shouldn’t visitors miss?
A: I’d start with a BGSU football Saturday at Doyt L. Perry Stadium, from tailgating and the Warrior Walk to the Falcon Marching Band. Hockey at Slater Family Ice Arena and basketball at the Stroh Center, home to Schmidthorst Heritage Hall, are also must-sees.
Q: How does BGSU support recreation in the community?

A: We work closely with the city to share facilities, offer affordable access, and provide family-friendly promotions throughout the year.
Q: What are your favorite local spots?
A: Downtown Bowling Green — and, always, the stuffed breadsticks at Campus Pollyeyes.

See creativity blossom around downtown BG’s alleyways with new painted murals. by Mike Pramik
Bowling Green’s Downtown Forward efforts have culminated in the transformation of some of the city’s alleyways into pedestrian gateways downtown, complete with signage, café lighting, and (in some cases) new murals. Honoring the city’s cultural heritage and creative spirit, these walkways encourage visitors and residents alike to explore and enjoy BG’s downtown.
Dogleg Alley features a pair of perpendicular walkways brought to life with two unique murals. Bowling Green native Andrea Pereira de Almeida fills the first wall with bright pinks and vibrant stylized trees, while on the Main Street facing side, Whitehouse artist Dean Davis welcomes visitors to the city with bold colors and texture.
Nearby, Union Alley runs perpendicular to West Wooster Street and claims its name from the Union Hotel that once stood proudly on the block. The naming helps to preserve a piece of Bowling Green’s rich history.
Parallel to West Clough Street, Monarch Alley showcases a colorful collaboration between mural veterans Carrie Day and Gordon Ricketts. Using elements of abstract design alongside bright flowers and deer, the piece brings energy to the alley.
On the east side, the Opera House Alley (recognizable by its stair-step pattern) stands as tribute to the historic Hankey-Taber Opera House that once entertained the city with live performances.

Finally, Black Swamp Alley runs between Juniper Brewing Company and Beckett’s Burger Bar. The alley honors the city’s Black Swamp Arts Festival, an annual three-day celebration of music and art.
Explore deeper into Bowling Green’s downtown, and you might be surprised how much color you’ll find on these walls. Highlights include the geometric mural painted by Gordon Ricketts’ BGSU students on Hankey Avenue; the Connection Center’s mural centered around togetherness and community; and the whimsical storybook style murals outside Grounds for Thought (also produced by Gordon Ricketts).
Discover public art throughout Bowling Green.
Wherever you are in Bowling Green, you’ll find public art. While exploring BGSU’s campus, make sure to look up. BGSU’s commitment to creativity and community is clear when you see the Jerome Library mural, the largest piece of artwork around campus. In 2025, the iconic mural (originally painted in 1966) underwent a restoration to ensure it stands the test of time for years to come, offering a refreshed burst of color and pride to the heart of campus.
Ever seen a moving art installation? Combining function and style, the Public (Art) Works collection features five city snowplows painted in familiar styles of famous artists like Jackson Pollock and Alma Thomas. The plows will take to the streets in the winter to provide much needed color along with the snow-removal service. Another functional art piece, the Judy Knox Memorial Sundial in Simpson Garden Park is, you guessed it, a working sundial! Created by Adam Goldberg, this 9-foot piece is a spectacle of glass and stainless steel that stands as a monument to Bowling Green’s history and as a tribute to Knox’s work and legacy.
Gordon Ricketts , an artist, muralist, and retired BGSU art professor, discusses public art around Bowling Green.
Q: Why is public art so common in Bowling Green?
A: With the university here, we have a lot of people with diverse experiences bringing inspiration home with them. It’s also just good for everyone — research shows public art stimulates the economy and quality of life.
Q: You’ve painted quite a few murals. What’s special about that artform?
A: I like creating art out on the streets, letting people see the process. Watching an artist in flow is a rare and special opportunity with outdoor art.
Q: What makes a successful mural?
A: Art should be accessible, but also make people think. My favorite murals reflect the artist’s vision rather than outside directions. The best work comes from artists being allowed to fully express themselves.
Q: What’s your favorite place in BG?
A: I’ve been going to Grounds for Thought every day for close to 30 years now. It’s great to meet people, get a coffee, and enjoy local art.

TAKE A TOUR Ready to explore Bowling Green while also experiencing more of the city’s public art scene? The Bowling Green Arts Council has crafted a public art tour you can complete at your own pace that guides you around the city to top murals and structures. Watch a show or live performance.
There’s nothing quite like the magic of live performances. The Black Swamp Players are known for performing lesser-known plays with powerful messages, and their 2026 lineup features a feminist comedy set during the French Revolution, a suspenseful small-town murder mystery, and a sci-fi story exploring the feelings of robots. At Bowling Green State University, the Wolfe Center for the Arts is a vibrant hub of creativity perfect for catching student performances of everything from Shakespeare to musicals to contemporary pieces. If you’re looking for even more variety, check the schedule at Bowling Green City Schools Performing Arts Center. Hosting everything from school events to national touring dance groups and public speakers, the venue is the perfect place to experience the full spectrum of human expression.

Support local artists around the city.
Enjoy some artwork or craft your own! Handcrafted earrings, bracelets, and necklaces with a Western theme await at Coyote Beads. Products crafted by local artists will quickly become your new favorite staples. Feeling inspired? Sign up for a jewelry-making workshop or bring home a DIY kit to craft on your own schedule. Find handcrafted gifts for your friends and family at Oak Grove Collective. Each market features local vendors and creatives. On campus, the BGSU Fine Arts Center Galleries showcases free contemporary exhibitions of works by both national artists and BGSU students. Be part of the magic and participate in collaborative events or check out BFA thesis exhibitions in the spring.
Jam out to live music all year long.
Let your ears lead you to these live music destinations around town. Right in the middle of BGSU’s energetic campus scene, Howard’s Club H is the premier spot to jam out to local bands and national acts alike. In downtown Bowling Green, Grounds for Thought blends hand-roasted coffee with used books and records to create its warm, welcoming environment. Once a month, it hosts free Sunday night concerts with genres ranging from bluegrass to funk.
If you like a dose of karaoke, trivia, and open-mic comedy with your live music, keep your eyes on Grumpy Dave’s Pub. This casual joint always has something entertaining on the docket! The island theme, fresh popcorn, and tasty cocktails at Nate & Wally’s Fish Bowl make this self-described dive bar a friendly and inviting community hotspot. Hop on the mic for karaoke or enjoy a live performance.
The name says it all at Arlyn’s Good Beer. Enjoy warm weather with a brew and some tunes in the beer garden. Craft brewery Brewing Green offers over a dozen craft beer options, plus live music nights, weekly trivia, and paint and sip events.

Be in BG mid-September for the largest free live music festival in northwest Ohio: the Black Swamp Arts Festival. Celebrate local artists and the community with live music, food trucks, and great vibes. The event features a juried art show and interactive art experiences (accessible for all ages and abilities), including youth art programs. Vocal ensemble groups compete in “Beats on the Street,” and the main stage has over a dozen acts lined up to entertain you all weekend long.

owling Green’s community parks offer an inviting blend of nature, recreation, and family-friendly fun. At Simpson Garden Park, visitors can wander 11 acres of botanical beauty, from the nationally recognized Daylily Walk to the tranquil Japanese Peace Garden. One of the country’s largest public hosta collections thrives beneath mature trees, while the Children’s Discovery Garden delights families with hands-on water features and playful interactive elements. Don’t miss the 9-foot Judy Knox Memorial Sundial. Crafted by glass artist Adam Goldberg, it’s a favorite photo stop.
Just south of town, Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve offers a quiet escape across more than 100 acres of old-growth forest, prairie, and wetland habitat. Miles of looping trails, including the popular Wintergarden, St. John’s, and Bordner Meadow routes, accommodate quick strolls and hour-long hikes. Wildlife is abundant, and the Rotary Nature Center invites visitors to observe deer and songbirds through its “Window on Wildlife” and explore educational materials and nature displays.

In the heart of the city, City Park is a beloved gathering space, complete with Veterans Memorial Building, anchored by playgrounds, basketball courts, the Eli Joyce softball field, skatepark, inline rink, and horseshoe pits. A half-mile loop trail circles the grounds, while the adjacent City Pool offers a lazy river, waterslides, lap lanes, and concessions. Shelters with grills make it a popular spot for reunions and summer celebrations.
Bowling Green’s neighborhood parks are uniquely charming. Ridge Park, built on the former Ridge Elementary School site, includes a modern playground, green space, benches, and the Friends of BG Dog Park. Conneaut Park is known for its wide-open fields and a much-loved

sledding hill that comes alive after every snowfall. Bellard Park, named for former mayor Bruce Bellard, offers a quiet retreat with shady trees and green space. At Carter Park, recreation takes center stage with an 18-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball courts, a multi-field softball complex, multiple playgrounds – including the RallyCap Sports Inclusive Playground for children of all abilities to play — and plenty of room for picnics. Well-placed shelters, restrooms, and leashed pet-friendly areas add to its appeal.
Raney Playground, donated by local architect Jack Raney, remains a welcoming neighborhood favorite, highlighted by its butterfly and hummingbird garden planted during the park’s 2006 revitalization.

Bowling Green offers additional green spaces worth a stop. The Dunbridge Road Soccer Fields hold youth and adult leagues on well-kept grounds. Wooster Green provides a welcoming community gathering spot for events. The Mini Mall Courtyard offers a quiet nook with picnic tables and murals. For pet lovers, the Wood County Dog Park features fenced play areas and an agility course.
Bowling Green offers miles of scenic trails that invite visitors to explore forests, prairies, gardens, and the region’s agricultural heritage. The Slippery Elm Trail stretches 13 miles along a former rail corridor, with its namesake trees providing wood for the rails in the 1800s. Its smooth, flat asphalt makes it ideal for runners, cyclists, and in-line skaters traveling between Bowling Green, Rudolph, and North Baltimore.
In town, Simpson Garden Park features a tranquil half-mile loop through themed gardens and the 1/3acre Hosta Glen with 1,400 hosta varieties. Nearby, Wintergarden provides 4 miles of wooded loops through 120 acres of scenic habitats with native plants and animals, all starting at the Rotary Nature Center.
For easy access to nature, Black Swamp Preserve offers paved connections to the Slippery Elm Trail along with wetlands, prairies, pollinator gardens, and wildlife viewing. Fuller Preserve, an 8-acre pocket forest, rounds out the options with a quiet 0.43-mile loop perfect for birdwatching and reflection.
Q: How long have you been with Bowling Green Parks & Recreation?
A: I’ve worked for the city since 1997, first as recreation coordinator, and I became director in 2015. Today, I oversee 11 parks totaling just under 400 acres, from the 124-acre Wintergarden Preserve to pocket parks.
Q: What do you love most about BG’s parks?
A: I love how much the community supports us. We’re unique for having places like Simpson Garden Park, with the second-largest hosta collection in the country, plus a nature preserve, athletic parks, disc golf, and rental buildings. We serve everyone, from cradle through seniors. I love enhancing people’s quality of life daily.
Q: What should first-time visitors see?
A: Many college students say they never knew Wintergarden existed, but my favorite is City Park. It has a bit of everything: the pool, skatepark, trails, historic Needle Hall, playgrounds, and year-round family activities.
Q: What projects excite you most right now?
A: We’re focused on maintaining what we have — it’s always a balancing act between needs and funding. We recently cut the ribbon on eight new outdoor pickleball courts at the Community Center.
Q: Anything else you’d like visitors to know?
A: Just get out and enjoy it year-round. We have a public sledding hill at Conneaut and Haskins roads, one of the city’s only major elevations. All our spaces are open 365 days a year, dawn to dusk.

Awalk through the historic neighborhoods and downtown Bowling Green is a treat of architectural styles and a 19th century history lesson.
The Carter Home (307 N. Church St.) was donated to the Wood County District Public Library. Built around 1877, this building is an Italianate style of gabled roofs and decorative window hood molds.
The Wood County Courthouse (1 Courthouse Plaza) holds decades of history within its walls. The sandstone of the Richardsonian Romanesque architecture patterned after the medieval period came from Amherst, Ohio, and the granite
from Vermont. In 1902, the county jail was completed behind this significant landmark.
The Italianate red brick Newton House (135 N. Grove St.) with its two-story bay window and entrance columns has the distinction of being the first Bowling Green home to have a bathtub.
The Bowling Green City Building’s Neoclassical and Renaissance Revival style placed it on the National Register of Historic Places. Only the façade including the Ionic columns of the original 1913 building that was the original post office, and later served as the Wood County Senior Center, at 305 N. Main St. remains.
At 116 S. Main St., the Lehmann Building was built as a butcher shop. The bracketed cornices

by Jamie Rhein
and arched windows are features of the Classical Revival style. Look for the two cow heads in the decorative panels next to the semi-circle transom.
The Four Corners District at the intersection of Main and Wooster streets has several Queen Anne and Classic Revival-style buildings in Bowling Green’s downtown. One is the former Hotel Millikin. Opened in 1897, the hotel in its heyday hosted Ernest Hemingway, Clark Gable, and Warren G. Harding. In the 1950s, the hotel closed and later became residential apartments with the bottom floor for commercial use. The hotel is currently home to The Millie and graduate housing.

Meet Annette Wells , director of the Wood County History Museum, and hear her favorite spots in Bowling Green.
Q: What makes Bowling Green so special?
A: It’s the best of both worlds. It’s a college town with quality sports and small-town charm with gorgeous architecture.
Q: What makes the Wood County Museum significant?
A: The museum is in what was the old county home, the source of public charity in Wood County. It tells the everyman story. We know about the rich in northwest Ohio. Nobody knows about the county’s elderly, poor, and disabled.
Q: What are some stand out pieces in the museum’s collection?
A: Our featured textiles include over 40 uniforms from World War II. We know about the people and where they served like North Africa, the Pacific, and D-Day. One was a gunner who did 18 tours and was never shot.
Q: What are your favorite dinner spots?

A: A lot of restaurants! I like the cocktail menu at SamB’s and the fettucine alfredo from Sunset Bistro – it has avocados in it! If you’re looking for variety, Beckett’s Burger Bar has roughly a dozen different burgers.

In 1868, the Italianate style West Wing was built onto the Wood County Infirmary, also called the “County Home.” Today, the historic building is the Wood County Museum. Exhibits pay tribute to the poor farms in Ohio’s 88 counties and the people the infirmary helped. The exhibit “We’ll Meet Again: Remembering World War II” includes objects used by service men and women from Wood County, film, and first-person audio experiences.

At Civista, you’re more than a customer— you’re part of a community. With local decision-making and personalized service, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Bank where you belong.

At Snook’s Dream Cars, a recreated 1940s Texaco gas station, a 1930s general store, and 1960s racetrack, transport visitors back in time, where vintage cars shine. These beauties from the 1930s through the 1970s, from Cadillac to Packard to Alfa Romeo, are all in working condition. Jeff Snook, who combined his collection with his dad’s, drives each of them around town. Period signs, advertisements, and toy cars are part of the museum’s memorabilia displays. While Snook’s Dream Cars celebrates the sights and sounds of decades past, Bowling Green’s history museums preserve the stories that shaped the community.

In the Boom Town Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places, several historic homes are a visual feast of architectural beauty along Wooster Street. The Stick Style Queen Anne FroneyMillikin House (307) built in 1888 has a wraparound veranda and double front doors. A two-storied bay window and brick-faced dormers are features of the Helfrich House (315). Mullioned windowpanes are highlights of Yonkers House (327). The Queen Anne Cole House has a polygonal turret and a gabled roof. Built in 1890, the Hankey House (408) is another Queen Anne beauty with a polygonal tower and fish scale shingles. The Italianate style Curry-Canary House (328) has a two-story bay window. Stay at the Lincoln House Inn, located at 325 N. Main St. Built in 1895 as a residence with Dr. Lincoln’s medical practice nearby, this is the only historic inn in Bowling Green.

One of BG’s signature events, this free three-day festival fills downtown with live music, local vendors, juried art shows, and food. View local artistic talent in the community at every corner.
Celebrate the Fourth of July with games, inflatables, food trucks, and live music throughout the day with fireworks to end the evening at the Wood County Fairgrounds.

Cheer on the drivers during a variety of events and skill tests at the Wood County Fairgrounds! From Super Stock Diesels to 2-Wheel Drive Trucks, there are many unique, powerful machines to observe.

Divided by just an hour’s drive, Lima and BG share a passionate love for horsepower and history. With topnotch education programs, engaging community events, and proximity to a bustling downtown, the university is brimming with opportunities for students to get involved
with the larger Bowling Green community and thrive.
From student life to quality of education, BGSU is consistently recognized among the best. In 2025, The Wall Street Journal ranked it No. 1 college in Ohio for student experience and career preparation, plus No. 3 in the country for public universities that students would choose again.
The campus area is always buzzing with activity. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, students catch up over smash burgers and craft brews at Juniper Brewing Company in downtown Bowling Green. Down the street, others sip coffee and work on their laptops at Grounds for Thought,

a cozy coffee shop and used bookstore perfect for meetups and group study sessions.
A short walk away, students stroll through campus itself, occasionally walking past cooler-shaped robots delivering snacks to students in the dorms. Some students head to the Jerome Library for quiet study time. The library is known for its renowned Browne Popular Culture Library, which houses everything from catalogs and screenplays to comic books and scrapbooks.
Off-the-clock scholars might enjoy live music at one of the vibrant downtown spots or cheering on the Falcons in football at Doyt L. owling Green is a city on the move, where parks, pathways, campus connections, and family-friendly neighborhoods create everyday convenience. Explore BG’s evolving story through green spaces, gathering spots, and streets with character and a life of their own.
It’s the crossroad of BG’s storied past and vibrant present, rich in history with century-old architecture, and full of energy with a lively lineup of local businesses, restaurants, and gathering spots. Downtown BG has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980, and the district’s characteristic brick façades set the tone for a sense of place — a hub you can easily explore on foot or by bike. The community is ingrained in downtown’s conveniences and BGSU’s cultural, athletic, and entertainment offerings.
WHERE BG CONVENES: Easy Street Café is a casual Main Street staple known for its French onion soup, hand-cut onion rings, range of cocktails, and entertainment Wednesday through Saturday. Poke around for the quaint and quirky at longtime, family-owned variety shop, Ben’s. These favorites bring flavor and fun to every visit.
Just west, Boom Town traces its name to BG’s gasand-oil surge of the 1880s, when prosperity sparked a wave of stately residential construction. You’ll find deep porches for people watching and storied craftsmanship that instills pride of place.
This district is a highly accessible pocket of BG within easy reach of downtown. Stroll or cycle to City Park for pool days, check out Needle Hall events, and find plenty of open green space. Nearby are schools, churches, the Wood County District Public Library, and a smattering of local and national businesses. In Boom Town, there’s convenience at every turn.
WALK OR RIDE: Follow well-connected routes linking Boom Town to City Park, a year-round recreational hot spot activated with programs and special events. Walk the loop, shoot hoops, swim along the pool’s lazy river, watch teams play ball, or play horseshoes. The park is complete with a skatepark and inline roller-skating rink open to the public.
Wooster Green is a central gathering spot with public art, historical markers, space for markets, and open air for celebrations.

BG’s connected corridor stretches south and east of campus, a back door to the university with bikeable routes that link everyday living with BGSU spirit, ready recreation, and all the conveniences. Here, Division I athletics and arts programming provide an encore of reasons to stand up and cheer. The list of free ways to engage goes on, but some events include a ticket for admission.
CAMPUS CONNECTION: Whether cheering for the Falcons, attending a gallery opening, or catching a lecture, BGSU’s academic and cultural offerings turn this neighborhood into a gateway for community engagement.
Carter Park’s planned shared-use path will extend all the way to Crim Elementary, creating an easy, activity-focused link between home, school, and recreation. Families settle here for the comfort of established streets, close-knit feel, and the many perks of living beside a major public university with year-round happenings.
PLAY & EXPLORE: Carter Park delivers all-season action — run the bases, volley with friends, try your hand at disc golf, or reserve a shelter house for a gathering. Programs and tournaments keep the park buzzing on busy weekends.
WITHIN REACH: Families will appreciate a safe, kid-friendly route connecting Crim Elementary’s classrooms, Carter Park, and nearby streets.
Call it BG’s west-side retreat. With rolling fairways, pockets of woodland, and walkable streets aplenty, you can easily access two of the city’s go-to green spaces that wander toward two of the city’s most treasured green spaces: Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve and Simpson Garden Park.
GET OUTSIDE: Choose a loop option at St. John’s Nature Preserve and wander along 120 acres of
evolving landscape that shifts from forest to prairie and oak savanna to wetlands. Curious? Ask a staff naturalist and sign up for a program to learn about the local habitat. Check out the Window on Wildlife room at the Rotary Nature Center, a spot to relax and watch the natural world. Room rentals are available for events.
LOOKING FOR AMENITIES? Stone Ridge checks the boxes with modern homes, along with the Stone Ridge Golf Club. Neighbors tee off at the 18-hole Arthur Hills-designed public course, families gather at the clubhouse, and guests drop in to make the most of this BG destination, where living is easy.
Next door, Westgate has been welcoming families since the 1960s and is a hop away from the Wintergarden Nature Park. Here, find a sense of establishment and tradition, with mature trees, stretching lawns, and easy walks to dining, entertainment, and services like the Wood County Hospital.
SAVORY AND SWEET: Sunset Bistro’s table service or takeout includes vegan and gluten-free selections and chef-made dishes. Stop in at Sundae Station for seasonal treats, Coney Dog Thursdays, and an evolving menu of flavors.
TOUSSAINT SPRINGS & BEYOND
New on the north end is Toussaint Springs, with modern homes, fresh streetscapes, and connectivity to the community center and schools. Families looking to establish roots in Bowling Green can find comfort, beauty, and joy in K Hovnanian Homes’ single family homes in Toussaint Springs while remaining close to downtown and the surrounding nature, including Oak Openings Preserve and Slippery Elm Trail. A planned shareduse path will link residents directly to the BG Middle and High School campus — where a state-of-theart high school is under construction — making school days, practices, and performances an easy walk or quick ride. Plus, Toussaint Springs is within easy reach of the Wood County Fairgrounds.
LOOKING FOR LIVING OPTIONS? Northridge Estates is centered around quiet, tree-lined residential streets, while Ashbury Hills provides private, gated living with low-maintenance ease. The Village caters to busy routines with comfortable access to schools, recreation, and main routes.

FAIRGROUNDS FLAIR: From the Wood County Fair to seasonal events, having the fairgrounds next door brings a burst of BG tradition just steps from home.
COMMUNITY CLOSE-UP: Between the BG Community Center’s fitness programs and events, and the nearby school campuses, Toussaint Springs’ neighborhoods are right on track for families.
Construction and renovations are underway across BG, highlighting the city’s investment in education, connectivity, and quality of life.

A HOMERUN FOR BASEBALL: BGSU baseball’s home, Steller Field, recently completed its first major renovation in decades, including a new turf field and lighting system.
LEVELING UP AT BGHS: Bowling Green High School is building a new, state-of-the-art campus, opening in August 2027. The three-story facility will deliver modern learning spaces and specialty areas, while making room for a growing student body.
LINKING THE COMMUNITY: The Brim Road Shared Use Path will connect neighborhoods, schools, and recreation with a safe, accessible route for walkers, runners, and cyclists.
