County’s parks
Take flight without spending a dime on the self-guided Ohio Aviation Trail to learn about Ohio’s pivotal role in modern transportation. Start where it all began at Huffman Prairie Flying Field near Fairborn where the Wright brothers staged experimental flights and learned to pilot — it’s now a National Historic Landmark.
Stop by the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center to see a video of those first flights, then pay a visit to the can’t-miss (and free!) National Museum of the United States Air Force™ where you can see a
reproduction of the Wright brothers’ first plane alongside a world-class collection of historic military planes and vehicles.
When hunger hits, head to Beavercreek to load up on mouth-watering smoked barbecue at Wandering Griffin Brewery & Pub and follow it up with a sweet treat in a unique flavor like Red Velvet Cake or Blueberry Muffin from Jubie’s Creamery in nearby Fairborn.
After lunch, take a 15-minute drive to Xenia to explore Great Council State Park, which opened as Ohio’s 76th state park
in 2024. (Like all of Ohio’s state parks, it has free admission!) Located on the site of what was once a Shawnee village, the park includes historic displays and an art gallery. Kids can get their hands wet in the living stream and run through the meadows of the outdoor exhibits.
End with dinner at sports-themed Butterbee’s American Grille where you can watch games on dozens of screens. Get a restful night’s sleep across the street at Hampton Inn & Suites Xenia Dayton , where kids will enjoy the indoor pool.

ONEday OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
One of the best ways to take in the charming towns and serene countryside of Greene County is on two wheels. Bring your bike (or rent one from Xenia’s K&G Bike Center) and follow the paved trails that lead past historic covered bridges and through charming communities. Start at
Xenia Station to follow the 78-mile Little Miami Scenic Trail along retired railroad lines that lead through wetlands, prairies and woodlands as part of the largest network of paved trails in the country.
Kick off your journey at the Xenia Station access point and pedal about 9 miles to Beavercreek through wide open spaces, shady woodlands and scenic wetlands on the Creekside Trail
Head back to Xenia and reward yourself with a craft beer at Devil Wind Brewing or stop in Beavercreek for lunch. Fuel up with a homecooked cheeseburger pie or all-day breakfast at the locally owned Cherry House Café, or enjoy a New York-style pizza with all the toppings and cheesy bread bites at hometown favorite Pizza Dive.
After lunch, spend the afternoon exploring the city’s parks and vibrant green spaces. Phillips Park & Beaver Creek Wetlands Reserve is a must-visit for lovers of the outdoors — the park features a catch-and-release pond for fishing and is a hot spot to see birds and wildlife.
Ready to have a few laughs? Cruise over to The Greene Town Center and catch an adults-only comedy show while enjoying burgers and cocktails at the Funny Bone Comedy Club Restaurant or take in a movie at Cinemark The Greene 14 and IMAX theater. After an action-packed day, turn in for the night at your choice of nearby hotels, including Courtyard by Marriott, the Hilton Garden Inn, Home2 Suites by Hilton or SpringHill Suites.
Yellow Springs Brewery on the Little Miami Scenic Trail
TWOday OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Fuel up for another dynamic day with a hearty Farmers Platter at Ellie’s Restaurant & Bakery in the heart of delightfully offbeat Yellow Springs. Then head over to nearby John Bryan State Park to work up a sweat navigating the limestone hills and gorges by foot or by mountain bike, or challenge yourself on the public rappelling/rock climbing area located on the North Rim Trail. Looking for something a little more lowkey? Cast a line into the Little Miami River for a relaxing afternoon of fishing.
The park also offers a 9-hole disc golf course and a popular storybook trail just for kids.
Peach’s Grill in Yellow Springs is a must-stop for lunch or dinner. The eatery, beloved by locals, features fully loaded sandwiches and burgers, a popular openmic night and a cheerful patio — the perfect place to relax with a cold iced tea or craft cocktail.
Save some time to take a stroll and check out the whimsical local shops in the vibrant, eclectic business district.
PET-FRIENDLY ADVENTURES
DOG DAYS every day!
Bring your best furry friend along for the fun — there are plenty of pup-friendly places in Greene County! Leashed dogs are welcome to explore the streams and gorges at John Bryan State Park in Yellow Springs. Xenia’s Pierce Park offers up a 2-acre off-leash option by way of the Scout Dog Park, and the nearby Dairy Station serves up ice cream, barbecue, tacos and pet-friendly seating. In Bellbrook, enjoy ice cream nachos or a sundae at the Dairy Shed with your best four-legged friend by your side. Spending the night? More than a dozen area hotels welcome pets, including Fairborn’s DoubleTree by Hilton that’s close to The Mall at Fairfield Commons.

Take a scenic 50-mile drive through Greene County and step back in time as you explore its historic covered bridges — remnants of a bygone era. Five of these six bridges were originally built between 1877 and 1883, each with its own unique story.
In the southern part of the county is Engle Mill Road Covered Bridge, which dates back nearly 150 years. At 136 feet long, this bridge’s vibrant red color and open-faced beams are hard to miss. Though this bridge no longer carries vehicular traffic, it makes for a charming spot along Engle Mill Road. Roughly 20 minutes down U.S. Rte. 35, you’ll find Ballard Road Covered Bridge

Just 10 minutes away, the Charleton Mill Road Covered Bridge spans 128 feet. This bridge was originally built in 1883, but was rebuilt in 2013 to allow automobile traffic.
Nearby is Stevenson Road Covered Bridge — a bright red bridge spanning 95 feet over Massies Creek. The bridge was built in 1877, and while it’s no longer open for traffic, it’s a popular spot for photos.
Travel 10 minutes to the Glen Helen Covered Bridge in Glen Helen Nature Preserve. Framed by towering sycamores, it’s accessible by a short trail from Grinnell Road.
Nearby is the Hyde Road Covered Bridge, a 77-foot Howe Truss design built in 2014 to look like bridges from the late 1800s. It’s also called the Richard P. Eastman Covered Bridge in honor of the Yellow Springs resident who preserved the county’s covered bridges.
Greene County’s covered bridges tell a story of resilience, inviting you to slow down, take in the scenery and appreciate the craftsmanship of generations past. It’s a journey through time you won’t soon forget.

EXPLORE THE NATIONAL AFRO-AMERICAN MUSEUM & CULTURAL CENTER
The National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center in Wilberforce brings Black history and culture to life through an extraordinary collection of more than 9,000 artifacts. See actor Gregory Hines’ tap shoes, a Buffalo Soldier’s bison hide coat and a historic Black doll collection, including the recently donated Lillian Bartok collection, along with ever-changing exhibits that tell the story of African American achievement.
HISTORY HAPPENING TODAY
The spirit of innovation continues at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where cutting-edge research is shaping the future. Scientists from the Air Force Research Laboratory and Wright State University are working together to enhance military training and human performance, advancing discoveries that may one day benefit warfighters and humankind.

Experience the Heart of Hospitality in Greene County
Greene County is home to many businesses that go above and beyond to support their community, and one local hotel has set a shining example. Recently rebranded as DoubleTree by Hilton Dayton Fairborn, the hotel — formerly Holiday Inn Dayton Fairborn — was recognized in 2024 with the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association (OHLA) Charitable & Community Involvement Award.
The hotel’s exceptional service makes guests feel like part of the community, exceeding expectations to create a welcoming experience. This tradition of hospitality will continue with the hotel’s new DoubleTree by Hilton Dayton Fairborn branding — complete with the signature DoubleTree cookies — ensuring each guest is treated with warmth and care.
During its time as the Holiday Inn Dayton Fairborn, the hotel played a vital role in supporting local organizations and causes. They raised funds for 4 Paws for
Ability, Michael’s House Child Advocacy Center, the Greene County Fish Pantry and the Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative, as well as contributed to the Trans Am Car Club’s donation to the Special Wish Foundation. The hotel partnered with the local Habitat for Humanity for over a decade, raising funds through employeeled programs. Each time a new home was built, staff personally delivered a new vacuum cleaner to the homeowners as a housewarming gift. The hotel also maintained strong ties with Wright-
Patterson Air Force Base and local ROTC programs, consistently supporting the men and women in the military through various efforts.
Now operating as DoubleTree by Hilton, the hotel remains dedicated to making a difference in Greene County. While the name has changed, the commitment to hospitality and community service remains the same. As they embark on this new chapter, the team looks forward to continuing their tradition of giving back and strengthening connections with the community.
