When spring bursts into bloom, inspiration is sure to follow, so take your budding creativity and apply it to stems, shoots and petals at Flor & Co. Build a bouquet at the floral studio’s flower bar or sign yourself and a family member up for a workshop — there are classes in flower arranging and adjacent arts. Flowers aren’t all that’s fresh in Fayette County; Jones Farm Market is stocked year-round with locally grown and produced goodies, including cheese, meats and breads, but come spring, it’s the seasonal produce — especially strawberries — that no one can resist.

Round up the kids! Family fun is always waiting to be found in Fayette County — indoors and out, rain or shine and in every season. By

Spring of Family Fu

As the weather warms, Paint Creek Recreational Trail beckons. The 32-mile paved trail is an easy family outing on foot or on bikes; it follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way from Washington Court House to Chillicothe and traverses diverse landscapes, including farm fields, creeks, woodlands and even ancient Hopewell earthworks. At the trail’s eastern terminus, Shaw Wetlands and Vernal Pool is a nature enthusiasts’ delight. The preserve’s boardwalk trail buzzes with animal life — frogs sing in chorus from the restored swamp. Birds from waterfowl to woodpeckers to warblers abound, especially during spring migration.

Did you bring your canine companion along for the trip? Your dog can let loose at Destination Outlets’ on-site dog park by playing with new friends or trying out agility course obstacles. While there, don’t miss Launch Family Entertainment, a one-stop amusement emporium, packed with arcade and virtual reality games, bowling and mini-golf — perfect for when April showers force you indoors.

nNS Summer

Festival season heats up amid summer’s long days and nights. The Fayette County Fair is the highlight of the summer. From late July to early August, locals and travelers come to the county fairgrounds for livestock, food and horticulture competitions, plus abundant entertainment including a demolition derby, tractor pulls, rodeos and horse and dog races.

Area towns get in on the fun, too. Bloomingburg Community Days, celebrated annually in August, boasts kiddie rides and games, a petting zoo, car show and a fire department fish fry. If the weather’s too hot, chill out at Main Street Creamery where old-fashioned ice cream parlor vibes collide with over-the-top creativity. If you can’t decide between the extravagant milkshakes, sundaes and ice cream

“nachos,” try a flight — three petite scoops from the shop’s dizzying array of flavors. Fill your spare time with more indoor fun at Le Ella Lanes

The bowling center’s Sunday Funday package is ideal for families — 90 minutes of lane time with pizza and a pitcher of pop for up to five people at a single price.

Located in an ornate Victorian Italianate mansion dubbed “The Showplace of Washington Court House,”

the Fayette County Historical Society Museum offers an opportunity to explore local history and take in a stunning view. Tours, available April–September, culminate with a trek to the top of the home’s four-story tower. Tales are also told on the Storybook Trail at Deer Creek State Park Pages from a children’s book fill markers along the halfmile path, immersing young imaginations in the wonders of words and nature.

Autumn

Colorful leaves and crisp air ignite a craving for pastoral pastimes, and there are few better places to capture the autumnal spirit and get a great gourd than Bentley’s Pumpkins and South Plymouth Pumpkins. Both are open throughout the fall, and each offers its own seasonal revelry. Bentley’s sells a rainbow of pumpkins in every size and shape and kicks off its high season with a Pumpkin Bash, filled with local food and craft vendors. South Plymouth Pumpkins leans into autumn activities with a corn maze, wagon rides and farm animal encounters.

Harvest season rolls deep into the year as Fayette County Farmers’ Market brings bounty to the heart of Washington Court House through the end of October. The same city center hosts an annual Scarecrow Festival the third weekend of

September. Locals submit spooky and silly scarecrows to compete for honors, alongside festivities that include a 5K/10K race, midway rides and live music. Steps away, Platform Coffee House has seasonal sips — switch up the usual pumpkin flavors with a maple and salted caramel latte or a Resting Witch Face energy spritzer.

Head over to the Fayette County Airport for a Fly-In and take to the skies, where pilots escort attendees on Young Eagles airplane rides, large military aircrafts are on display, kids’ activities abound and food trucks offer delicious fare.

In early October, jam out to good tunes and good times at the Outdoor Community Concerts at the Elks Lodge #129. For a third year, this free public event will have a beer garden, food trucks and live music. Past bands have included Naked Karate Girls, Long Play and Dumbfounded.

Winter

It might be chilly outside, but winter is cozy season inside Vinyl Coffee, a hip Washington Court House café. Here, baristas spin an all-LP soundtrack and sling comforting concoctions like the Broken Record Latte, featuring local honey, vanilla and cinnamon, for the adults, and cocoa or spiced cider to keep the kids decaffeinated. If your coffee craving is accompanied by a sweet tooth, head to New Holland’s Country Cakes and Bakes for scratch-prepared treats, baked with love in every bite — try a ginger sandwich cookie or a white chocolate raspberry scone.

Want some active options? Take a twirl around Roller Haven Fun Center — open sessions are available for all ages nearly every day, and themed skate parties pop up frequently. You can even rent a “skate mate” if you’re a bit unsteady on your wheels. For less strenuous recreation, Levelup Arcade is a retro riot — think 1980s arcade games (Pac-Man, anyone?) and pinball — plus food and drink for the entire family courtesy of Starlight Pizza and Subs and a pour-your-own draft beer wall for the parents. Stories and songs are the stars at Carnegie Public Library where regular reading events like Bonnie’s Books provide wholesome fun for the littles, while games, cooking classes and crafts offer hands-on entertainment for older kids. Speaking of crafts, Show of the Season is your handmade holiday shopping headquarters. Taking place every November at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, it features unique home décor, ornaments and accessories by more than 75 local artisans.

Murals Around the County

In Washington Court House, an outside wall of the Kiger and Kiger building pops with county fair and farmers’ market motifs. Painted by muralist Eric Henn, the themed mural marks the spot where the Fayette County Farmers’ Market sets up on Saturdays and pays homage to the county’s farming traditions. Find larger-than-life flowers on the building of Flor & Co. on

Court Street. Thanks to artists Duane Richard and his assistant Megan Downing, black-eyed Susans, lilies, daisies and more bloom year-round. Check out two new screen murals downtown — one a collage of postage stamps — that capture the spirit of Washington Court House, also thanks to Downing. A mural is planned for the historic bank building in the Village of Jeffersonville in 2026.

At the Fayette County Courthouse, circa 1885, history is displayed on its interior walls. Ohio artist Archibald Willard, famed for his painting The Spirit of ’76, paid tribute to American ingenuity by painting murals throughout the building. Look for The Spirit of the U.S. Mail, Spirit of Electricity and Spirit of the Telegraph in the thirdfloor corridor.

Standing Ovation

Throughout the year, Fayette Community Chorale and Fayette Community Band entertain in many venues around town, including the Historic Washington Auditorium. The chorale performs a variety of music, from 60s and 70s to gospel, while the band’s summer concert series is a popular favorite. The talented and dedicated music-loving volunteers of both groups combine each Christmas in a holiday spirit showcase.

Find Your Inner Artist

To unleash your inner artist, browse the ever-changing works by Ohio artists at White Fence Gallery in Washington Court House. Then take a Thursday night painting workshop from 6–8:30 p.m. At the end of class, you’ll have a handmade treasure to take home. For gallery manager Megan Downing, creating art is a way to “lead with love.”

Don’t miss Art on the Square each August in Washington Court House. Here, artists set up easels and art supplies at the town square to turn mural-size boards into paintings. Watch their creations unfold while enjoying food trucks and vendor offerings. Artworks are later displayed in town businesses.

ROOTED IN Renewal

From fresh dining spots to outdoor escapes, Washington Court House is experiencing a wave of revitalization that’s reshaping the way visitors and locals enjoy the city.

L-H Battery is a lithium-ion battery production facility in Jeffersonville, Ohio, formed in January of 2023 as a joint venture company between LG Energy Solution and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. The name “L-H Battery” pays homage to each parent company.

The plant has a footprint of more than 2 million square feet, and the total investment is projected to reach $4.4 billion overall.  The groundbreaking ceremony was held in February of 2023, and construction will be finished in mid-2026. More than 2,000 construction jobs were created as a result of this project.

Products from L-H Battery will power a variety of innovative energy storage applications. As of mid-2026, nearly 700 full-time associates have been hired from Fayette and surrounding counties in a variety of engineering, technician and operator roles at L-H Battery Company.  When at full capacity in the coming years, the plant is expected to employ 2,200.

Downtown, several renovation and mural projects are giving the historic center fresh energy. Revamped staples are driving the thriving business district: Vinyl Coffee recently celebrated the opening of its new location at 101 E. Court St., and Levelup Arcade reopened at 202 E. Court St. after nearly two years, featuring inventive menu additions like speciality espresso drinks at Vinyl and a self-serve beer pour wall at Levelup. Flor & Co. and Scotty’s 22-Brew round out the lineup of new favorites.

“We’re thrilled with how far our downtown has come over the past few years,” says Chelsie Baker, Washington Court House’s Director of Economic Development. “With so many projects underway, we can’t wait to see where we’ll be this time next year.”

A novel way to get around the county is underway. Starting this year, The Kenskill Shaw Bike Path will be getting a major connector project to link the Paint Creek Recreational Trail with the route near Old Chillicothe Rd. and U.S. Rte. 22, unlocking a smoother, more scenic way to explore Fayette County.

Significant progress is also ongoing at the new Adena Fayette Medical Center, a 65,000-square-foot critical access hospital that will be completed in 2027. Nearby, Court House Station, a modern, 10,000-square-foot retail hub along U.S. Rte. 62, will add even more convenience for travelers stopping through.
