TEE UP FOR SUCCESS One of the many things I’m learning in my year as your Chair is that there are many ways in which members can engage with the Chamber and with each other. Because not all members use their membership in the same way, there are a variety of different Chamber programs and services offered throughout the year. We encourage you to use The Chamber’s “Five Builds” to ensure you’re receiving the member engagement that is comfortable to you while providing you with the greatest available benefits. Here they are:
BUILD YOUR NETWORK – If you’re looking to connect with others in the community, you will find many ways to do this through The Chamber. From attending events to strengthening your business network, to joining a committee or council, to interacting with others through The Chamber’s blogs and social media, these types of engagement are great for growing strategic alliances. Remember, people buy from those they know, like, and trust.
BUILD YOUR VISIBILITY – Getting the word out to the community about your business or organization can be done

through the various tools The Chamber provides. Whether you want to bring awareness to your business by sponsoring or hosting an event, or sharing your successes through the online press release tool or through social media, using The Chamber website, www.sarasotachamber.com, you can effectively reach your target market.

partner programs, increasing sales through the credibility and contacts that come with membership, and by accessing member-to-member discounts.
BUILD YOUR KNOWLEDGE – Services and programs, including our Chamber University workshops, provide a wealth of knowledge on topics such as Marketing, Sales, Human Resources and much more. You can stay up to date on community intelligence, market data, and Chamber information by engaging with The Chamber Buzz Blog, mining the Chamber’s website, and following us on social media.
BUILD OUR ECONOMY – Broader engagement of all members is vital to successfully building our economy in this ultra-competitive world. There are many forms of engagement which are key to secure our future prosperity. Some of these include The Chamber’s Sarasota Tomorrow initiatives; volunteering and serving on a GSCC council; and advocating for pro-business and pro-greater Sarasota public policies. Attending a public meeting to show support for a needed policy or sending an email to an elected official can also make a key difference! Remember, Chamber events and tools are available not only to you, but to all the employees and colleagues in your firm. Involving several associates will increase the return on your investment in The Chamber and maximize the benefits of your membership. These are just a few of the ways you can engage with your Chamber and colleagues. If you would like to get more involved or want to speak to us about how to maximize your membership’s value, please reach out to me (lkrouse@fcci-group.com or 941-907-7695) or Sarah Murphy, Director of Member Services (smurphy@sarasotachamber.com or 941-556-4031). We appreciate your membership and the impact you are making on the community. Have a great April!

TOMORROW: SECURING PROSPERITY
SARASOTA TOMORROW IS A REGIONAL COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE of The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce working to secure a more prosperous future for the Sarasota region. While the initiative is broad, it focuses on major strategic areas: business climate and infrastructure, targeted development, education and workforce development, and ongoing and emerging special priorities. Highlights of the 2016 actions in these areas include:
BUSINESS CLIMATE: SARASOTA TOMORROW CONTINUALLY WORKS TO BUILD a more positive business climate for employers, investors, and the jobs they create. Currently, Sarasota Tomorrow’s sustained participation in the process to update and improve the Sarasota County Comprehensive Plan, in areas such as quality of life, land use, and mobility, will ensure that the county-wide plan is practical and workable. Member input and advocacy in this process is providing a voice for business to governmental decision makers.
ATTAINABLE HOUSING:
Attainable housing remains a key aspect of the area’s infrastructure and the ability to effectively attract and retain a talented workforce. Ensuring a business point of view, Steve Queior, President of The Chamber, is an appointed member of the City of Sarasota Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, as well as the Sarasota County SHIP Program Affordable Housing Advisory Committee. Chamber leadership, including various councils and numerous individual members, remain dedicated to focusing on this issue as a significant ongoing priority.
TARGETED DEVELOPMENT: TARGETED DEVELOPMENT SUPPORTS THE IMPROVEMENT AND STRENGTHENING OF CORE BUSINESS AREAS and often involves a long-term vision of the Sarasota region. This year, Sarasota Tomorrow is ramping up its role as a stakeholder in the Bayfront 20:20 Coalition, a strategic community partnership, that is creating a Master Plan to move the Bayfront forward through site planning, facility planning, outreach and fundraising. This is the largest metro-downtown water front location planning opportunity in the state and is a large part of the area’s future growth and vitality. The GSCC has helped facilitate over 35 projects with an estimated construction value of $700 million that are currently underway or in the pipeline. Our Downtown Economic Development Coordinator continues to work closely with Sarasota city staff and others to promote investment in the central business district.
EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE: THE THIRD PRIORITY FOCUS OF SARASOTA TOMORROW HAS BIRTHED A NEW GROUP. Talent4Tomorrow (T4T) is a coalition and set of initiatives working to create a ready-for-work labor force and closing the skills gap by helping more students obtain post-secondary education. T4T has, through the Local College Access Network, worked to increase awareness and completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so that more graduating students have access to financial resources to pursue advanced education in vocational training or two or four year college programs. Through this collaborative effort, Sarasota County currently leads the state in FAFSA completion. T4T is now completing a community scan to determine the state of internships in the Sarasota region to better determine community action to improve the availability of and access to internships in our area.
“These focused priorities that Sarasota Tomorrow continuously monitors, actively engages in and advocates for are essential to sustaining and enhancing our community’s quality of life,” notes Rae Dowling, Sarasota Tomorrow co-chair. Looking forward, Sarasota Tomorrow will remain committed to building a positive climate for Sarasota employers as well as promoting an infrastructure system that will support a growing and prosperous community. Advocating for strategic, targeted development that emphasizes economic growth, revitalization and attainable housing will strengthen our economic footprint as well as enhance the area’s quality of life. A continued emphasis on building and creating a strong workforce through a variety of educational and training pathways will allow Sarasota to compete and prosper in an evolving economy.
The work of Sarasota Tomorrow is made possible by The Sarasota Chamber member investors of Sarasota Tomorrow. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE SARASOTA TOMORROW INITIATIVES CONTACT AMY FARRINGTON AT AFARRINGTON@SARASOTACHAMBER.COM OR 941-556-4045
