Do you remember the name of your favorite teacher? One of mine was Ms. Robertson who had a wood block with very stiff wiring that held four or five pieces of chalk. With the chalk held securely in place, Ms. Robertson could easily get lines that would always be perfectly parallel and equidistant from one another to aid in teaching students to write. I wanted one! It was that unique little tool that launched my desire to become an educator!
Elizabeth Corn Event Coordinator
With summer in full swing, it is hard to think about the upcoming school year. After spending over 15 years in the world of education, I speak from experience in saying for a teacher, that is exactly what is on their mind. The anticipation of the new year is both exciting and daunting. You see, teachers fulfill not only the educational needs of our children, but they are also called to be nurturers of hearts and minds, providers of supplies and food, advisors of wellness and social relations…the list is endless when you consider 5 days a week, they spend more waking hours with our children than we do. Most complete the task with the endless love of a servant’s heart regardless of the lack of adequate salary and resources.
But we can help!

Each year, the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) hosts the Teaching to Excellence celebration. The purpose of this event is to welcome the teachers new to Riverview's local schools. We give them various supplies they would oftentimes personally purchase to hand out to students as the need arises. To achieve this goal, we need event sponsors and Teacher Supply Stops, a great opportunity to showcase your business to 350+ members of the community! If you just want to donate, any supplies can be dropped off at the Chamber office, and we will ensure the distribution. We have also created the Teaching to Excellence Amazon Wishlist. And, if you would like to volunteer, we would love to have you join us setting up on Wednesday, Aug. 2nd, or for the event on Thursday Aug 3, 2023, from 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM at the Barn at Winthrop.
Be blessed and enjoy the remainder of your summer! Thank

his career. Slater then addressed the crowd, discussing "The Road to Leadership". As an experienced Chief Executive Officer with a demonstrated history of working in all aspects of transportation, Slater is passionate about innovation, a system focus, and mentoring the next generation of leaders. Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch catered by the talented Adam Harris with Coastal Catering. Guests were also treated to specialty cookies beautifully decorated with the LEAD logo and the GRCC logo, from Chip-in Cookie Company. Participants will need to successfully complete a Program Assessment, upon which they will receive Certification by Credly, powered by Pearson.
Krivda then introduced the distinguished panel of mentors who will be leading the program: Dave Boyle, Executive Director of YMCA Camp Cristina; Gabriel Mbulo, MBA, Financial Advisor – Edward Jones; Alexander Savon, Leadership Development Manager, Suncoast Credit Union; Jeff Campbell, Fractional CFO and Commercial Loan Broker; Brian Ramirez,

Cookson Hills Family Ministries of Florida is a newer member of the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, having joined in 2022. Family Ministries began as a satellite unit of Cookson Hills Christian Ministries around 1976, and the Florida operation ministered to meet the needs of many children and their families under the umbrella of the main unit in Oklahoma.
As the ministry in Florida expanded, and the need to serve more children and families grew, it became clear that the Florida operation needed a governing body from the state. Thus, in July 2000, the board of Cookson Hills Christian Ministries turned the Florida operation over to the new organization now known as Family Ministries of Florida.
In 2001 a new child care cottage and administrative building were opened. In 2002 the ministry expanded its mission by starting Legacy Christian Academy––a fully accredited private Christian School with the goal of using a comprehensive Christian curriculum to help students achieve academic excellence.
