NEWPORT, RI –

On Saturday, November 15, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at St. George’s School Chapel, the Choir School of Newport County, St. George’s School Advanced Vocal Ensemble, members of Trinity Church Choir Newport with orchestra and guest soloists present a CANDLELIGHT CONCERT OF REMEMBRANCE. Included are John Rutter’s Requiem (on the observance of composer Sir John Rutter’s 80th birthday), with works by Nadia Boulanger, Ola Gjeilo, Ned Rorem, Douglas Guest, C. V. Stanford, Philippe Rombi, the Navy Hymn, Parry’s Jerusalem, and a setting by Peter Berton of You who are passing by, a text carved in the St. George’s Memorial Schoolhouse Hallway, which honors the memory of fifteen St. George’s students and a teacher killed in World War I.

The costs of the concert have been generously underwritten by an anonymous individual, allowing all voluntary admission donations to directly benefit international humanitarian aid (especially war relief) coordinated through Episcopal Relief and Development. A reception follows the concert in the Memorial Schoolhouse. For more information visit www.choirschoolri.org or call (for Press only…not for publication) 401 239 9713.

The Choir School was founded in 2014 to form lives of character and service through the joy and discipline of intergenerational choral music. Choristers are paid for their work, and have the opportunity to sing in the community, attend a summer camp, and travel (England in 2018, Argentina in summer 2024). Recent performance highlights are Messiah at the Mansion (at Rosecliff, 2021, 2022, and 2023), Newport Folk Festival 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, Earth Day concerts, and annual Concerts of Remembrance that raise money for humanitarian aid in the US and abroad.
