The Newport County Community Healthcare Collaborative (NCCHC) is going the extra mile to get everyone in Newport County vaccinated! Two NCCHC members-Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice and East Bay Community Action Program- are teaming up to bring vaccinations directly to Newport County businesses. NCCHC will work with you to arrange a time and a place to administer vaccinations for groups of 10 or more people. Employees, employee families, clients are all welcome as long as they meet the state of RI’s vaccine eligibility requirements. Shop Greater Newport (SGN) is a unique gift card program that encourages consumers to find and choose local businesses on Aquidneck Island, and throughout Newport and Bristol counties. The SGN program features a searchable website directory where anyone can browse local businesses, and restaurants, see hours, menus, deals and specials. The new Shop Greater Newport Gift Cards are redeemable at over 300 small businesses and restaurants. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island and Town of Warren Announce Partnership
WARREN, RI - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBSRI) and the Town of Warren are excited to announce their new partnership to divert clothing and textiles out of the landfill. BBBSRI has placed three new green donation bins at convenient locations around town. Donations of bagged clothing and textiles reduce waste in the landfill while helping hundreds of kids across Rhode Island.
“It’s a big help,” said Jan Malik, Director of Public Works. “It keeps clothing and textiles out of the landfill and it saves the town money. When residents donate instead of throwing away clothing, it helps lower our disposal rates and increase our recycling.” Each year, BBBSRI diverts between 3 and 5 million pounds of unwanted items from the landfill. In 2020, BBBSRI free curbside pick-ups in Warren helped divert over 16,000 pounds of clothing and textiles.
Donations of bagged clothing can be made at green BBBSRI bins found at the following locations: • Women’s Resource Center (624 Main St.) • Warren Fire Department Engine 3 (3 Vernon St.) • Warren Fire Department Engine 6 (99 Touisset Rd.) • Warren Transfer Station (21 Birch Swamp Rd.)
“It’s a win-win,” said Town Manager Kate Michaud. “We’re happy to help BBBSRI, and the organization is happy to invest in our community, too.” BBBSRI pays the town for each pound collected from the bins on town property. The funds will go to the Warren Firefighter Relief Fund in order to assist the department in the face of tragedy. Chief Executive Officer Katje Afonseca stated, “We’re looking forward to strengthening our partnership with the Town of Warren. We appreciate their commitment to our agency and we’re excited see the impact we can make together going forward.” Residents can also schedule a free curbside pick-up at their home.
