Free 3-Hour Private resPite sails For tHose Being CHallenged By CanCer
Sail Beyond Cancer Newport honors individuals of all ages who are being challenged by cancer by offering free, private, 3-hour sailing excursions on the beautiful waters of Narragansett Bay. Each sail provides a healing opportunity for cancer patients, caregivers, and loved ones to step away from the stress of treatment and reconnect with peace, joy, and one another. Each nominee may bring up to five loved ones—family or friends—to share in this healing experience.
Our mission sails help ease the anxiety, uncertainty, and emotional strain that cancer brings to the entire family. These powerful experiences create moments of courage, connection, and lasting memories during an incredibly difficult time. All sails are conducted by experienced volunteer captains and trained crew aboard a variety of local vessels generously offered by community partners and private boat owners.
Anyone undergoing treatment for any type of cancer is eligible — at no cost.

PEOPLE’S CREDIT UNION LAUNCHES GULLY YOUTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT
Expands Long-Standing Partnership with Newport Gulls in Support of Local Families
MIDDLETOWN, RI (May 7, 2026): People’s Credit Union, in partnership with the Newport Gulls collegiate summer baseball team, announced the launch of its Gully Youth Savings Account to encourage children to save by teaching them good financial habits. Named after the team’s mascot, the savings account is designed for children of all ages and has a tiered interest rate which rewards account holders for steady saving. Any child who signs up for a new account will receive a co-branded plush "Gully" toy at account opening and will be eligible for future discounts and promotions.
"Our nearly two-decade Gulls partnership has been about giving back to the families in our community ,” said Sean Daly, Head of People’s Credit Union. “The Gully Youth Savings Account gives kids a fun, tangible way to start building good habits early. What I appreciate most about this is that the idea came directly from Leandra Mello, one of our Member Service Representatives, during a breakfast with the team. That's exactly the kind of culture we're building at People's, where the best ideas can come from anywhere.”
