SBA Offers Relief to Rhode Island Businesses and Private Nonprofits Affected by 2026 Historic Snowstorm Low-interest disaster loans now available
WASHINGTON —The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the availability of low-interest federal disaster loans to small businesses and private nonprofit (PNP) organizations in Rhode Island to offset economic losses caused by 2026 Historic Snowstorm occurring Feb. 22 – 24. The disaster declaration covers the Rhode Island counties of Bristol, Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington, and the Connecticut counties of New London and Windham, as well as the Massachusetts counties of Bristol, Norfolk, and Worcester, which are eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) from the SBA. Under this declaration, the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is available to eligible small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, nurseries, and PNPs — including faith-based organizations — with financial losses directly related to this disaster. The SBA is unable to provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers, or ranchers, except for aquaculture enterprises. EIDLs are available for working capital needs caused by the disaster and are available even if the small business or PNP did not suffer any physical damage. The loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills which could not be paid due to the disaster. “SBA loans help eligible small businesses and private nonprofits cover operating expenses after a disaster, which is crucial for their recovery,” said Chris Stallings, Associate Administrator of the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA. “These loans not only help business owners get back on their feet but also play a key role in sustaining local economies in the aftermath of a disaster.” The loan amount can be up to $2 million with interest rates as low as 4% for small businesses and 3.625% for PNPs, with terms of up to 30 years. Interest does not accrue, and payments are not due until 12 months from the date of the first loan disbursement. The SBA sets loan amounts and terms based on each applicant’s financial condition. Beginning Friday, June 12, SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the SBA Business Recovery Center (BRC) in county of Providence to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process, and help individuals complete their 1|P a g e

AQUIDNECK ISLAND ROBOTICS TEAM BRINGS TALENT TO PEOPLE’S CREDIT UNION Students Show Sponsor Appreciation with Robotics Demonstration MIDDLETOWN, RI (June 17, 2026): People’s Credit Union was thrilled to host Aquidneck Island Robotics (AIR) at their Middletown headquarters. AIR is the largest community-based youth competitive robotics organization in the state. Open to all K-12 students in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts from public, private, and home schools, AIR offers membership fee scholarships so students can participate regardless of their ability to pay. “People’s is honored to support the groundbreaking work of Aquidneck Island Robotics, which provides students with hands-on STEM experiences,” says Courtney Hunter, Head of Community Development at People’s Credit Union. “Seeing ‘Bandit’, one of their latest competitive machines, in action was an impressive glimpse into the creativity, technical skill, and dedication that AIR students bring to every competition. Their demonstration showed our employees how robotics puts teamwork, leadership, and real-world problem solving into action.” David Wheeler, AIR Board Member and parent, remarked, "Like People’s Credit Union, AIR is built on the belief that when you empower people, especially young people, with the right tools and support, great things happen for our entire community.” AIR students gain exposure to a variety of STEM disciplines, including mechanical and electrical engineering, metal fabrication, 3-D computer modeling, and software programming (development). Beyond building project management and business competencies, students are enhancing their readiness for both higher learning and future careers. Team 78 AIR STRIKE is internationally ranked and has qualified for the World Championships almost every year since its inception in 2009.

People’s Credit Union Puts Community First into Action with Neighborhood Beautification Project MIDDLETOWN, RI (June 25, 2026): People’s Credit Union’s marketing team recently completed a full beautification project around a community billboard. Located on the corner lot of Van Zandt Avenue and Prescott Hall Road in Newport, Rhode Island, the once-aging, overgrown, and uninviting space became welcoming with a simple but powerful message, We’re in your backyard. So we brought flowers. As a local credit union, People’s approached the project with the mindset of making a positive contribution to the places where their employees and members live and work every day; a visible reminder that community commitment can show up in simple, but meaningful ways.
