It’s been almost 4 years since I was introduced to the Chamber. Carla (Exec. Director Carla Peters) invited me out for lunch, and her genuine passion for the Chamber and helping its members had me hooked! Joining has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. From the events, to the relationships built, and the mentorship gained, it has been an invaluable experience thus far!

Originally, I’m from North Carolina- but feel I’m a Miami native. Moving down to Miami to further my education and my career, this place has been my home ever since. This city has given me a sense of pride that I cannot explain with words alone.

As a small business owner, networking opportunities are key to your growth. That has been available through the Chamber and its board members. Along with receiving my Masters from the University of Miami I started Athletics Sports and Performance in 2019 as a Youth Athlete Training Program, to which the Chamber, and Carla, have supported me the entire way. Honestly, I don’t think I would have made it without them.

Personally, I believe Miami Shores is the City’s best kept secret. It has been a place I’ve been lucky to call home. As The Shores invites new families, new businesses, and new members its greatest potential is still ahead of it. The community is in great hands.

Celebrating Spice LOCAL

The month of September is a continuation of Miami Spice . For me, the program is a reminder to visit as many restaurants as possible, discovering new options, celebrating our stand bys, and going back for a second try. Long gone are the days of just focusing in one area, battling traffic and keeping up with the hype. Lucky for us, our neighborhood is surrounded by acclaimed restaurants, bistros and wine bars. To “spice” things up, you can’t go wrong with our beloved local, Pinch Kitchen + Bar. Although not participating in the Miami Spice lineup, they are “shout out” worthy with plenty of specials of their own.

In 2015, PINCH, the family owned restaurant opened its doors in our Upper Eastside corridor, located at 8601 Biscayne Boulevard, serving New American cuisine for brunch, lunch and dinner.

Chef and Owner John Gallo, an “expat” from South Beach, flourished from the start and quickly garnered a following, weathering the pandemic years, and still thriving with his eclectic and accessible menu. As implied with the restaurant name, his dishes are crafted to highlight what is in season and locally sourced, with a “pinch of this and a pinch of that”, consciously blending Cuban, Italian, Spanish and Asian flavors. John Gallo proudly explains, “Our food dishes tell a story, it’s not only art, it’s a way of life as we convey our passion into every food dish we craft for you.”

Visiting Pinch is like visiting your cozy and eclectic neighbor’s home. It is a casual and hip eatery serving delicious food, with a long lineup of worthy mentions like, Eater Miami’s “17 Classic Miami Brunch Spots” (March 10, 2023), The Infatuation, “The 16 Best Burgers in Miami” (May 12th, 2023), Miami New Times, “The Ten Best Burgers in Miami” (June 16th, 2023), a highlight in the Infatuation, noted as “The Best Brunch in Miami” (July 16th, 2023), etc. To date, one of Pinch Kitchen’s biggest draws is their threeday weekend brunch+bottomless mimosas offered Friday through Sunday from 12 pm-5 pm., a weekend tradition for locals. The favorites for breakfast include, the classic Steak N’ Eggs, a spin on Stuffed French Toast, made with inhouse baked brioche, stuffed with guava & whipped cream cheese, served with guava maple syrup or try the “to die for” Chicken & Waffles, a savory smoked cheddar and bacon waffle, fried chicken thighs served with maple bacon syrup. A sure bet that it will satisfy your breakfast and lunch meals, and then some.

Then there is the “must try ‘’ and served all day long - hailed as one of the top burgers in Miami, the legendary Pinch Burger. It is an 8 oz, seasoned to perfection custom patty blend, topped with Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, a sunny side up egg, lettuce, tomato, nestled between their in-house baked buttery brioche bun, spread with aioli, alongside hand cut french fries. Do indulge, it is worth every calorie and satisfies that burger hankering everytime! For some favorite lunch options, Gambas al Ajillo, the Pinch Cuban Sandwich, and a ColdSmoked Salmon Sandwich. And for dinner, there’s a Chef’s Tasting Menu, Black Board seasonal specials

like, Carne Asada Tacos, Fish Tacos, a 24 oz bone in Ribeye Steak, Pan Seared Local Mahi Mahi, Calamar A la Plancha, Seafood Paella or maybe something from their A la carte menu offering Bucatini al Pomodoro, Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese, Black Angus Steak, Organic Half Chicken, and Faroe Island Salmon. They also include delicious Vegan options. Pinch also offers one of the best happy hours in town, dubbed the “The Happiest Happy Hour on Biscayne Blvd’’ with Pinch bites and drink specials that can be enjoyed at the bar or at your table. The full bar offers an array of classics and signature hand-crafted cocktails, select wines, and local craft beers on tap.

Chef Gallo and his staff have created welcoming restaurant that remains focused in delivering quality dishes and great vibes in our bustling neighborhood, inviting their guests to “Taste and Sip What Makes Pinch Kitchen+Bar Special!” in Miami’s culinary scene. If you haven’t been, you are missing out.

Be sure to also visit Flight Wine Lounge & Shop, Sins Gastrobar, and the “newbies”, like No Reservations, f/k/a Bar Meli 69, and Osteria del Teatro, recently relocated after a lifetime on South Beach. Although these establishments are not associated with the Miami Spice program, they always have specials available.

Flight Wine In the middle of our little downtown Village you will find a sophisticated and very chill wine bar, Flight Wine Lounge and Shop. It is a high end magazine cover worthy space, with calming blue hued walls, a mix of citron colored contemporary seating, different toned woods, and gold artwork-like accents throughout. Flight is owned by Miami Shores residents, Kim Flower and Andy Wagner, who pride themselves in bringing the best selection of wines from small batch wineries and craft beers from all over the world. Sins Gastrobar, the life of the party on Second Avenue. Once again proving that you do not need to go very far for a trending and “sinful” evening. Siblings and owners, Carlos Oropeza and Chef Adrianna Oropeza opened Sins in 2019, knowing the dire need in our Village for an elevated restaurant experience. They spent four years developing the concept, wrapped around an overindulgent menu derived from the seven deadly Sins and desired flavors from around the world. The 2,400 square foot restaurant space is aesthetically gorgeous, with chic industrial decor and greenery

Regarded as a successful “institution” for over thirty-seven years on South Beach, with a following from all over the world seeking special attention to detail and fine cuisine, Osteria Del Teatro has recently migrated to 1666 79th Street Causeway, Suite 102, North Bay Village. Restaurateur Gilbert Gonzalez brings us the sought after Italian menu that his beloved patrons continue to rave about and request. Officially opening its doors on July 28, 2023, the space has been transformed to a beautiful formal dining room, with carved out nooks for more private settings, and a well appointed and comfortably sized event room. The family owned restaurant prides itself in providing a personable experience with the best quality food, including in-house made bread and pasta. The menu is an extensive collection of their very best, like the Lobster Salad, chilled Maine lobster medallions, sliced avocado and mango, layered Napoleon style, on top of arugula and served with Black Truffle vinaigrette and dotted with beets. Over the years, the microbrewery movement has grown rapidly throughout the country. Instead of a mass produced and oftentimes water downed ale, people are opting for local microbreweries that yield a better tasting, higher alcohol content, quality hops.
