Dear Members and Investors,
As we look back on the past year, it’s impossible not to feel a sense of pride in what we’ve accomplished. We owe much credit to the culture of collaboration that fuels new ideas and ambitious projects across our region.
This year, Caterpillar broke ground on a $725 million expansion at its Lafayette plant, creating 100 new jobs. At the same time, SK Hynix, a Korean-based leader in the semiconductor industry, announced a historic $4 billion investment in a 430,000-square-foot advanced microchip packaging and R&D facility at Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette. This project will bring over 1,000 new jobs to the region, solidifying our status as a hub for advanced manufacturing and semiconductor supply for the growing AI industry.
Additionally, Sustainea and Primient announced in October a co-location partnership to construct a $400 million facility in Lafayette. The new facility will produce a renewable, plant-based monoethylene glycol, also known as Bio-MEG—feedstock for the plastics industry—to replace fossil fuel-based monoethylene glycol.
With our help, Greater Lafayette also secured $35 million through the State of Indiana’s second iteration of the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI). These funds will address critical infrastructure needs, including housing and childcare, across our seven-county region—further positioning us for sustainable growth. As the convener, organizer and fiduciary agent for the grant, Greater Lafayette Commerce is working hard to ensure the Greater Lafayette Region’s long-term success.
What’s more, this year saw the return of commercial air service to Purdue University Airport (LAF) after two decades, now provided by Southern Airways Express. With a new terminal funded by READI, this reconnects Greater Lafayette to the global aviation network. Our focus on talent and workforce development remains stronger than ever. In 2024, our Career+ Ecosystem impacted over 12,000 students, preparing the next generation for opportunities in our thriving industries. This, coupled with initiatives to attract new
people to Greater Lafayette, continues to deepen our region’s talent pool.
Equally important is our work to make Greater Lafayette a more inclusive place to do business, particularly through our outreach to Latino entrepreneurs. By offering a range of free resources and programs in both English and Spanish, we’re ensuring that all business owners have the support they need to succeed in our community.
Our members recognize and reward our efforts. Our member retention rate is 91 percent. Membership among Latino-owned businesses increased by 24 members to total 44 this year. Over the past five years, our region has seen job growth of nearly 8,000, pushing the total to 107,125 jobs today. Our 7.8 percent growth rate over the last decade far outpaces Indiana’s 4.7 percent. The median household income has climbed to $60,762, while Greater Lafayette’s population has ticked upwards of 200,000.
This growth is not by chance, but the product of deliberate effort and shared vision, driven by our region’s commitment to collaboration. We are a destination for investment, talent and innovation.
We’re not slowing down, either. As we look ahead, we’re eager to build on this momentum and remain deeply grateful for your continued partnership.
Very sincerely yours,
