Scholarships Residents of USD#428 school district meeting certain guidelines may be eligible for scholarship assistance for their children ages 15 and younger. If approved, scholarship funds cover 100 or 50% of the program fee and applicants are asked to pay the remaining balance. Some activities are exempt from the scholarship program. Application forms must be submitted 5 business days prior to registering. Recipients must attend 75% of activity. T-shirt fee not covered by scholarships. Senior Discounts are available for individuals 60 years & older (some activities are exempt from the senior discount. Registrations & Cancellations We ask you to register at least (4) four business days prior to start dates to prevent cancellations due to low enrollment. Fees are due at the time of registration. We reserve the right to cancel, combine, or divide activities based upon enrollment. Information is subject to change regarding times, dates, locations and instructors. Refunds Refund requests must be made 24 hours prior to the scheduled starting date of the activity. Refunds not granted after that time. No pro-rated refunds. There is a $5.00 service charge on all refunds. T-shirt cost will be reduced from the activity fee if applicable. No refunds on Wellness memberships and trips. Team fees refunds will be allowed if request is made prior to the registration deadline. Wait List If class or team has met its maximum enrollment, patrons have the option to add a name to the wait list. Should a spot open, you will be contacted. Patrons cannot be enrolled in a program and be on a waitlist for another session of the same program. Photography/Video Great Bend Rec reserves the right to use all photographs and video of participants for promotional purposes, including print, digital, and social media promotions. Lost & Found Items of value are kept for one (1) month and than donated to a local, non-profit agency. Water bottles are not kept. Class Attendance Sorry, children are not allowed to attend classes with their parents. Siblings of class participants are not permitted in teaching areas. Are you ready to go on the GB Rec Lizard Hunt? We will be hiding 20 plastic lizards around Veterans Lake and the My BackYard Playground. No lizards will be hidden inside the Dog Park, in the water at Veterans Lake, and no lizards will be higher than 4 feet off the ground. Once you find a lizard you return it to the Activity Center between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Each lizard will have a number on them that will determine your prize when you turn it in. The lizard hunting season will open March 17th and close at dark on March 20th. KANSAS HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE INTERNET ASSISTED

We will be offering a class on April 11th. This class will meet from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm for students 11 and older at the Great Bend Police Training Facility (995 K Ave.). Students must pre-register for this course at www.safehunters.com before completing the no-cost on-line course at www.ksoutdoors.com. Students are required to bring their results from the chapter quizzes that they will take off this site. Students must print the “completion certificate” after completing the on-line course work and turn it into the instructor at the start of the Field Day class. The on-line course work could take up to 5 hours or longer to complete depending on the student’s reading comprehension skills. Students will be tested over the on-line course materials. A pre-test will be administered at the beginning of Field Day. A passing score of 22 correct answers out of 25 questions is required to proceed with the rest of the course. If a student does not pass this test, they will NOT be allowed to continue the class. For more Hunter Education information, age requirements and other details, go to www.ksoutdoors. com. CATCH THE TAGGED FISH

NATURE MEET AND GREET WITH DAWSON & BONO FROM THE KWEC

Get your favorite lure ready and see how lucky it is to catch a tagged fish from Stone Lake or Vet’s Lake. With the help from the Kansas Wildlife and Parks the Great Bend Rec has tagged 20 fish at each Lake. Fish will be tagged by the Kansas Wildlife and Park sometime early May. Once the tagging has taken place the Great Bend Rec will announce it on our Facebook page. If you catch a tagged fish, you will need to take a photo of the fish and you and e-mail it to the e-mail address (gfitzpatrick@gbrec.net) on the tag along with the tag number. Participants will receive an e-mail back within a couple of days informing you how to collect your prize. After taking the photo and getting the tag number you may cut the tag off and release the fish. Each tag number will be assigned a set prize. In order to participate in this event all participants must follow all the regulations and Kansas licensing requirements for fishing in the state of Kansas set by the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department. Prizes will vary from gift cards, fishing tackle, outdoor gear, and more. These donations will be provided by the Rec and future sponsors.

Get ready to meet the newest furry stars of the KWEC – Dawson and Bono, our adorable black-tailed prairie dog ambassadors! Join us for a hands-on adventure where kids become prairie dog experts through games, crafts, and creative play! Engineer an underground prairie dog home – complete with tunnels, chambers, and escape routes. Decode their secret squeaks and chirps in a fun communication challenge. Make your own prairie dog puppet and act out scenes from colony life and discover other animals that depend on prairie dogs for their survival. SALINA SKY TRAMPOLINE PARK

We will be traveling to Salina for a fun day of bouncing off the walls at the Salina Sky Trampoline Park. We’ll dive into a world of high-flying fun and active adventure! Get ready to bounce across expansive wall-to-wall trampolines with friends, while challenging gravity on thrilling ninja obstacle courses and climbing walls. Plunge into soft foam pits for safe landings, while unleashing energy in this super fun outing with an unforgettable day of play. The week of the trip, the Rec will send you a link with an online waiver that will need to be completed before a participant will be able to get on the bus that morning. Each participant will be required to bring a lunch and beverage in a cooler (with ice if needed). Snacks will be provided in the morning and afternoon. Pre-registration is required by February 16th. KANSAS HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE INTERNET - ASSISTED

We will be offering a class on April 11th. This class will meet from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm for students 11 and older at the Great Bend Police Training Facility (995 K Ave.). Students must pre-register for this course at www.safehunters.com before completing the no-cost on-line course at www.ksoutdoors.com. Students are required to bring their results from the chapter quizzes that they will take off this site. Students must print the “completion certificate” after completing the on-line course work and turn it into the instructor at the start of the Field Day class. The on-line course work could take up to 5 hours or longer to complete depending on the student’s reading comprehension skills. Students will be tested over the on-line course materials. A pre-test will be administered at the beginning of Field Day. A passing score of 22 correct answers out of 25 questions is required to proceed with the rest of the course. NYSCA certification is important enough for the Rec to make the Certification Clinic mandatory for all coaches. This clinic will cover useful tips to aid you in your experience such as safety, how to organize a fun practice and tips on teaching sports techniques.

DROP-IN MEMBERSHIP BASKETBALL The Rec Center and Activity Center gyms are open for students in middle school and high school at specific times. Participants are required to stop at the front desk to get their free membership card with school ID. SPRING BREAK LIZARD HUNT MARCH 17-20TH MY BACKYARD & VETS PARK Are you ready to go on the GB Rec Lizard Hunt? We will be hiding 20 plastic lizards around Veterans Lake and the My BackYard Playground. No lizards will be hidden inside the Dog Park, in the water at Veterans Lake, and no lizards will be higher than 4 feet off the ground. Once you find a lizard you return it to the Activity Center between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Each lizard will have a number on them that will determine your prize when you turn it in. The lizard hunting season will open March 17th and close at dark on March 20th. SOUND BATH JANUARY 31st - 1:00-2:00 PM April 18th - 10:30-11:30 AM ACTIVITY CENTER Using crystal-signed bowls, drums and other instruments, the class will provide a meditative sound experience. The sound bath is designed to help the attendee return to the natural vibration of their body. This can result in reducing stress, improving sleep, and help with anxiety and depression.
