Get your favorite lure ready and see how lucky it is to catch a tagged fish from Stone Lake or Vet’s Lake. With help from the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Dept, the Great Bend Rec will tag 20 fish at each Lake. Fish will be tagged by the Kansas Wildlife & Parks Department in early May. Once the tagging has taken place the Great Bend Rec will announce it on our Facebook page. If you catch a tagged fish, you will need to take a photo of the fish and you, and e-mail it to the e-mail address (gfitzpatrick@gbrec.net) on the tag along with the tag number printed on the tag. Participants will receive an e-mail back within a couple of days informing you how to collect your prize. After taking the photo and getting the tag number you may cut the tag off and release the fish or keep it if you like. Each tag number will be assigned a prize for that particular tag. In order to participate in this event all participants must follow all the regulations and Kansas licensing requirements for fishing in the state of Kansas set by the Kansas Wildlife & Parks Department. Prizes will vary from gift cards, fishing tackle, outdoor gear, and more. These donations will be provided by the Great Bend Rec and future sponsors.
Let’s see how good you are solving a photo puzzle. Keep an eye out on Facebook throughout the summer as we randomly post the Photo Detective post. This post will include a photo of something taken in or around the Great Bend area. We will share a partial photo and need you to figure out what the photo is and its location. The first correct answer on the post will receive a $10 gift card.
We would love to share a photo of a fish you caught this summer. This might include your first fish caught, your biggest, smallest, or simply a photo of you doing what you love to do…. FISH. On August 14th, the Rec will post a My Fish post on our Facebook page. All you need to do is simply share in the comment section your photo of your fish or you fishing. All photos must be submitted in the comment section by Noon on August 18th. We will randomly pick 3 entries to receive a $20 gift card so they can purchase more fishing gear.
By submitting photos, I understand the GBRC, and any sponsor or individual may subsequently use for publicity or promotional purpose my name or pictures without liability or obligation to me.

The Rec heavily relies on parents and/or volunteers stepping up and making a difference in kids’ lives by coaching. All the training and resources are provided, we just ask for you to take the time to guide our youth towards the future! All you must do is attend a coaches meeting, pass a background check, get NYSCA certified, and be a leader during practices and games! If you would like to be a coach or would like more information, contact the Sports Department at 793-3755.
NYSCA certification is important enough for the Rec to make the Certification Clinic mandatory for all coaches. This clinic will cover useful tips to aid you in your experience such as safety, how to organize a fun practice and tips on teaching sports techniques.
The Rec Center and Activity Center gyms are open for students in middle school and high school at specific times. Participants are required to stop at the front desk to get their free membership card with school ID. Participants will be asked to scan into the facility each time they plan to utilize the gym activities. Students MUST BE in the 6th grade to be in the gyms without adult supervision. Any student under the 6th grade must be accompanied by an individual 14 years of age or older.
