Patrick Ray McCarrell
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pat McCarrell. Those of you who knew Pat also know he needs no introduction. To say Pat was the life of any gathering would be an understatement. But not in the way you may think. Pat made it a point to include others in conversations, projects, even pranks, and you never doubted your value when you were around him. Pat was a gift to this company not just because he was good at his job, but because he loved our people well. Pat’s celebration of life service, which was held on his birthday, December 16th, was packed out with friends, family, and co-workers. It was a true testament of just how many lives Pat affected. We will move forward as Pat would have wanted. And as we do so, we can honor Pat by striving to have a positive impact in the lives of people around us. Please take a minute and read the beautifully written obituary provided by Pat’s family.
In loving memory of our cherished colleague, whose life was a testament to resilience and dedication. From the nomadic adventures of his childhood across global oilfields to his steadfast commitment in IT, his journey was marked by unwavering determination. As a valued member of the Gravity family for nearly three years, he navigated the roughest storms, from market downturns to the challenges of remote work during the pandemic and the unprecedented freeze in Texas. His pride in the Gravity IT team resonated deeply; he celebrated their prowess and adaptability. Beyond his professional dedication, he was a devoted father to four remarkable children, a man who found solace in the greens of a golf course and cherished moments shared fishing with his kids. His legacy lives on in the indelible mark he left on our hearts and the resilience he instilled in our team. LETTER FROM ROB Gravity Family, It is that special time of year again. We wrap up all the accomplishments of the past year and begin to position ourselves for the new challenges coming in 2024. We pause to reflect on all the accomplishments of 2023, knowing our business demands that we start focusing on the needs of a new year. Our customers have the same or even higher expectations for Gravity in 2024. What is unique about 2024 is that we are better positioned for growth in our Water and Rental business than we have ever been. This business never gets easy, but we know what is expected of us, how to perform, and that our customers depend on us every day to provide excellent and dependable service. I can’t wait to start this new year. Before we get focused on 2024, let me highlight some key accomplishments for our business in 2023: •
Best-in-class HSE performance
•
Multiple new produced and source water agreements in the Bakken and Midland basins
•
Targeted natural gas and diesel power fleet overhaul program
•
Record billable volumes, revenue, and EBITDA for the water business
•
Greenfield disposal and pipeline water expansion infrastructure in the Bakken
•
New Midland basin water automation infrastructure
•
Strong power and rental equipment pricing improvement
•
New Power Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) policy and Accounts Payable automation project implementation
•
Material improvements in DSO metrics
As always, there were many other accomplishments throughout the year. Thank you to every employee who contributed to these specific projects and the many others not listed. Gravity would not have made such progress if you had not made a difference! The theme for 2023 was “Make a difference." You might ask why that was our theme. Making a difference encompasses everything to me. Why do you get up every morning? Why do you work? Why do you sacrifice time with your family to do your job? I believe it is a sense of accomplishment that drives each and every one to perform. Maybe every day and every job are not the same, but if you choose to perform and make a difference, your work will be gratifying. You accomplish something, and Gravity accomplishes something as well. In 2024, I challenge each of you to continue to make a difference. End the workday with a sense of accomplishment. Making a difference in your job and Gravity’s business is the challenge I want you to embrace. We are a family of talented individuals who share a common purpose to provide the best in customer service in all that we do. The challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of us in 2024 will require all of us to work together, support one another, and leverage our internal and external resources. Wake up every day with the attitude that your work will make a difference for Gravity. I am proud to represent each of you at Gravity. We are in a great position, and I know each of you is ready to continue to grow and improve this company. A WORD FROM CENTRAL REGION’S DIRECTOR
Adam Garcia The Central Region is honored to kick off 2024 as the featured region in the first quarterly newsletter. While we all begin each year with specific goals for our departments, remember that the overall Gravity focus is on our safety. Safety isn’t expensive, it’s priceless! The Central Region will add three EGSA Apprentice employees—Greg Privett and Charles Cole from the OKC yard and J.T. Burris from the Charlotte yard. J.T. has recently renewed his certification. These team members will be preparing to take the Journeyman test soon.

As the Central Region strives to advance our employees with opportunities within the company, we have also set goals to accomplish the following: •
Lower our overdue PMs.

Increase our visibility with customers.
•
Increase our ready line.
Natural Gas Gens are currently the highest utilized asset in the Central Region at 69%, but 2024 will see a stronger focus on getting units to our ready line. With the new refurb program on Diesel Generators, our yards will shift some focus towards the Diesel Gen fleet to increase ready line and availability. We have opportunities throughout the company with Diesel Generators as well as within our region covering the Mid-Con, Haynesville, and Eagle Ford areas, where we are open to natural disaster situations once or twice a year. Having more units available enables us to assist those in need during times of severe crisis and upheaval.

TECH TIP Technology can be overwhelming sometimes! If you’re ever stumped, mystified, or frustrated by your technology tools, a great New Year’s resolution would be to become more comfortable and knowledgeable with the tech you use every day. Increasing your knowledge of how technology helps you will lessen your discomfort and increase your enjoyment and usage of all the tech tools you encounter or use daily.
HERE ARE FOUR PRACTICAL TIPS AS WE START THE NEW YEAR. 1. Use a Password Manager. There are several good to great password management applications available. Rather than trying to create and remember 72 strong passwords for the websites you frequent or the applications you use, you only have to remember ONE password and the Password Manager does the rest.
2. Read the Manual. Got a new iPhone or android phone for Christmas? You don’t have to read a manual. Spend the time to become thoroughly familiar with your device. New phones are like supercomputers in our hands. They have so many features designed to allow for ease of use and enhance your usage and enjoyment of the device. If your kids are constantly surprising you by telling you some cool feature about your phone that you didn’t know, then it’s time to read the manual and learn the tricks. Try YouTube videos, which are great sources of information and demonstration.
3. Shut Down Regularly. Do you ever turn your phone off? With so many applications and processes running in the background all the time, it’s a huge drain on the battery and the speed of your device. You can stop all those background processes by shutting the device down periodically and then powering it up again. It’s good for the device and maybe good for you! Go take a walk, talk to a friend face-to-face, play with your kids, or read an actual book with paper pages! Put the device down and give both of you a break.
4. Don’t Overuse Quick Charging Tools. For those of you with Apple products, beware of overuse of the lighting cords. Using them all the time can strain the battery and shorten the device’s life. Modern phones, for example, are designed to function better with multiple short charging sessions a day, rather than one long one like leaving your phone plugged into a lightning cord overnight.
Next quarter, we will talk about keeping up with the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and the many ways we come in contact with AI in our day-to-day life. 22
