Gravity is grieved to announce the passing of yet another one of our fine employees. Matthew Lucas, born December 23, 1958, left us on January 24, 2022, in Odessa, TX.
Matthew served as a Mechanic/DOT Inspector for the Power Segment and made a tremendous impact over the seven and a half years he was with us.
Matthew lived life to the fullest. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. Matthew undoubtedly left his footprint in the west Texas oilfield and made a huge impact on Gravity in his time here. Though his experience and talent will always be missed, his lighthearted jokes and kindness to others will always be remembered.
Gravity had the honor of visiting with Matt’s wife, Diana, after Matt’s passing. 1998 was our time – both of us have been in previous relationships, this began the start of ours. Some of you may not know how much of a Nascar fan Matt was, but it was there in the stands at one of the big races in 2004 when Dale Earnhardt won Nascar, where Matt asked me to marry him. I knew what I was getting into, and boy am I glad I said yes. Now, I’m not gonna lie, I think Matt loved Jeff Gordon just as much as he loved me, but I will take it. So, a quick story. As I’m sure most of you know, every year, the winner of the Daytona 500 has their car taken and put on display at the races.

I honestly did not try to change Matt too much because I married him for who he was, not who I would make him be. Granted, over time, I was able to move the moose head and turkey mirror to the back of the house (thank God). I convinced him the move would allow him more room for his Jeff Gordon memorabilia, and let me tell you, he took that and ran with it.
Not everyone knows this, but I have known Matt since I was 13 years old. Matt worked for my parents for 28 years and started auto repair trade, working in my dad’s shop. It quickly became known that Matt had a knack for it. His work ethic was beyond anything my dad had ever seen, working circles around other mechanics. And it was not just cars. Matt could pretty much fix anything he put his hands on. When my dad hired Matt as the floor sweeper, he was soon promoted to parts runner at the shop and eventually a licensed mechanic trained by my dad. Everyone called him “speedy Gonzales” because his feet meant money to him, and he was just SO FAST!!
Matt found Gravity through a job fair – we were barely scraping bywith no insurance and working for Halliburton. LTR (Now Gravity) and Key Energy Services both wanted Matt for his experience as a shop foreman. Matt interviewed with Gravity and Key and made the decision to start with Gravity after a few days. I was so mad at him because Key paid a few dollars more an hour at the time but looking back, I can see the family that he had with Gravity and how that drew him there. I believe with all my heart and soul that God guided us to Gravity.
Matt was a great man, and the last five years proved that even more so. I became ill, and Matt came through 100% for me. He would take off work to care for me when it got bad, and Gravity was so understanding.
If you knew Matt, you might know that he was sure was not the romantic type in the beginning, but Matt, loving me through sickness and in health, showed me the ultimate form of romance, in my opinion. Zachary and I miss him more than we can express. Zachary “Matthew” Lucas, now 18 years
old, remembers how Matt “Dad” would do whatever Zachary was interested in, from setting up garage band equipment to simply being there. Every moment we got with Matt will be cherished.

“We have lost not only a mechanic but a true friend and what we all considered a family member Matt was a character in his own way; he would play his Classic Rock music in the shop while working on several pieces of equipment. Whenever we would call him on his cell, he would always answer with, “I’m pretty busy right now. ” No matter what Matt would be doing at the time, someone would always come in with an issue, either a piece of equipment or vehicle problems, and he would always oblige them so that they could carry on with the job at hand. Matt was truly a genuine person, always willing to help with whatever needed to get done He was very upfront and a friendly person Our vendors loved dealing with him and were always curious to see what color his hair would be when they came by. He wore his hair spiked and would quite frequently dye it green, blue, pink, or whatever suited his desire at the time. Quite a guy that will be missed and that had blessed us all being able to know him and work with him. May he rest in peace. ”

All our employees' dedication and work ethic, especially this time of year, when temperatures fall to -10 or -20 degrees below zero and the wind is blowing 25-35 miles per hour. Our "feel like" temps can easily reach -40 or -50 degrees. However, our employees continue to brave the cold and work long hours to ensure that we keep our equipment operational to meet our customers' expectations.
The ingenuity of our employees to find ways to keep our fleet operational with as little downtime as possible. Our more experienced employees continue to lead and mentor our SSEs to ensure that our quality of service and reliability exceeds that of our competitors. We have had so many employees that have left for positions with other companies that look to return to Gravity. That says a lot about the culture that we have created in this branch. Sixteen of our operations employees have been with Gravity for 5+ years, and seven of those have 10+ years of service.
You’ve probably heard of this place, and if you ’ re lucky, you might have one near you This month’s Featured Place to Eat (or drink) takes us to Midland, Texas where one of the many Black Rifle Coffee Co stores is located
Black Rifle Coffee Company is a veteran-founded and operated coffee company and a leader in supporting the service community. Luckily for Gravity, this location just happens to be located across the street from our Midland Corporate Office. Black Rifle Coffee Co. (BRCC) is undoubtedly an icon of tribute for those in the service community, specifically the military and first responders. A quick glance at their website shows you BRCC is a company with a purpose - on a mission to serve, to give back. Gravity had the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at their newest location in Midland. Here is some of what we found.
I grew up in Midland, Texas, graduating in 2000 from Robert E. Lee High School. Go Rebels! In 2001, I had my son, Isaiah, becoming a single mom. Growing up, I watched my mom struggle to raise six kids on her own, which pushed me to provide my son with the best I could
I worked at a little store on Front Street in Midland called Sundown Market. Everyone called me the “Sundown Girl . ” As mentioned, I wanted the best for my son while refusing to live off welfare I couldn’t financially do that at Sundown To provide more and try to get started with a career, I went to work for Halliburton and FTSI.
In 2014, I was blessed with an opportunity to work for Mike Hughes and Tech Management. I started as the receptionist, moved to the A/R department, and then to my current position as the Chemical A/P Manager. I have progressed in my career through learning, knowledge, trust, and dedication.
I started adulthood with struggles that in the moment were hard to look past but, in the end, I am grateful for those times and where I have ended up. 1 Corinthians 10: 13 “God won’t give you more than you can handle ” Working for TM has provided my son and me a life I prayed for, allowing for things I was not able to have growing up. I was able to get my son through school and watch him play football and run track in high school. He’s 20, and I’m still his #1 fan!
I love spending time with family in my spare time, especially my nieces and nephews. When I need a little laugh or a pickerupper, I Facetime my twin nieces! Just hearing them say “Auntie” or “My Auntie” fills my heart with so much joy Family is everything to me, and as you can see in one of the pictures, we have a very big family!
LaDonna joined Tech Management in 2014 as part of our AR team, and she has since transitioned into our AP Manager Over nearly a decade, LaDonna continues to prove herself a valuable asset through her loyal, hardworking and dependable character. She comes to the office with a bright smile and quiet disposition, yet also a great sense of humor playing jokes on fellow coworkers (if they’re not playing them on her!) We have a successful administrative team because of quality personnel like LaDonna.
