Slaycation

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had three life goals: to write, to have a dog, and to live in a hotel like Madeline did.
Little Laine would likely be proud because I’ve made a great career out of writing stories, I have two lovely fur babies, and while I do live in a condo, I travel as o en as I can.
One might say that living in Florida is like being on vacation every day. A er all, a beach day or decadent restaurant is only a short car ride away for most of us.
This month, we’re highlighting staycations in all their glory – brief holidays close to home that allow you to recharge and refresh without a big time or travel commitment.
We’re spotlighting some of the most decadent properties o ering special discounts for Florida residents this summer, resorts that feature water parks for family adventures, and even the best places to dine for a little “steakcation”.
So, pack your overnight bag and make your plans. And don’t forget to take us along in your beach tote – we make excellent poolside reading!

DAD MODE: ACTIVATED
E-Z-GO’s next-generation Liberty turns Father’s Day into a full-throttle upgrade, pairing modern tech with course-ready agility.
The golf car has grown up. For 2027, E-Z-GO® unveils a reimagined Liberty™, a next-generation personal transport vehicle that feels less like a cart and more like a compact, electric runabout designed for modern neighborhoods and fairways alike.
Automotive cues de ne the update. Drivers can ne-tune acceleration, set speed parameters, and select driving modes tailored to their style. Wireless charging and push-to-start functionality
on select trims further blur the line between golf car and everyday vehicle.
Powered by next-generation Samsung SDI lithium battery technology exclusive to E-Z-GO, the Liberty promises longer range, faster charging, and zero maintenance, backed by an eight-year warranty. A compact wheelbase ensures nimble handling, while expanded legroom and automotive-style pedals enhance comfort.
With generous storage, a standard rear hitch, LED lighting, advanced braking, and available street-legal LSV capability, the 2027 Liberty arrives this summer positioned as a polished evolution of neighborhood mobility.

DRINKS FIRST, DECISIONS LATER
Sparrow is built for momentum—where a boys’ night stretches and a date finds its second act.
Sparrow’s relaunch sharpens its identity into something more deliberate: a roo op designed for nights that carry a little edge. Perched atop The Dalmar, the space now leans into mood and momentum, the kind of setting where a boys’ night stretches later than planned or a date quietly tips into something more electric.
The weekly rhythm does much of the work. Sundays trade the usual wind-down for “Paradise Found,” where house music, cocktails, and an unhurried sunset crowd blur the line between recovery and indulgence. By Thursday, “Sparkles & Sushi” ips the switch, equal parts irtation and ritual, with just enough spectacle to make staying out feel like the only reasonable choice.
Behind the bar, the menu plays it smart—cocktails that are bold without trying too hard, balanced by a lineup of zeroproof options that feel considered rather than obligatory. The food follows suit, with sushi and shareable plates that keep things moving without interrupting the ow of the night.
What emerges is a roo op that understands pacing: arrive early, stay late, and let the night unfold with just enough intention to feel cinematic.

IT’S SO EASY BEING GREEN
The Green Egg is Your Emerald-Hued Key to Summer Backyard Entertaining
For more than 50 years, the Green Egg has charmed people with its eccentric ovoid shape that makes it look like a giant ostrich decided to start a family in your backyard.
That shape, however, is the key to quality cooking: The Green Egg’s rounded shape allows heat to radiate o its ceramic dome and circulate evenly. The design is modeled a er traditional Japanese clay cooking pots used for centuries to cook rice and meat to perfection. The Green Egg acts as an outdoor convection oven, allowing you to sear steaks at upwards of 700 degrees, allowing for a crisp char on the outside and tender interior.
The Green Egg doesn’t just grill the perfect steak. It can also smoke meats, heat vegetables, and even bake a pizza, making it the perfect outdoor cooking tool for years to come.

Bourbon Steak
J.W. Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura and The Seagate Hotel, Golf & Beach Club in Delray Beach
James Beard-winning chef Michael Mina’s classic American Steakhouse, Bourbon Steak o ers the nest steaks in a glamorous setting. Start with the chef’s own Petrossian "Mina Reserve" caviar or hand-cut Prime steak tartare, before choosing from a selection of Prime, Wagyu, or dry-aged steaks.
Pair your meal with a selection from the restaurant’s massive library of more than 850 bottles of wine.
Chef’s Recommendation:
"My go-to would be our dry-aged 22oz kosher-style cowboy steak. It's lighter when it comes to dry-age and not too footy. As for sides, I grew up on broccoli and cheese (the only way my mom could get me to eat broccoli), so the grilled broccolini with mimolette espuma topped with neuskis bacon bits is right up my alley, along with a fully loaded baked potato.”
- Executive chef, Bourbon Steak Turnberry, Mario Beabraut

Prime 54

This glittering modern steakhouse inside the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel o ers globally-sourced prime steaks, including dry-aged beef and Japanese Wagyu – all wood- red to your preference. O ered on Friday and Saturday evenings, this multi-course tasting menu is available for just six people per seating and o ers front-row access to the culinary team in action.
Chef’s Recommendation:
“For the perfect steakhouse dinner, always start with the raw bar. Tartare, crudo, or oysters are always a great rst course. Then, I would recommend a seafood dish and a pasta like Prime 54’s agnolotti for the table. For the main course, order a few steaks family-style so you can try a variety of ages and cuts. The famed Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors hand-selects Prime 54’s Prime Dry Aged cuts, including the bone-in ribeye, porterhouse, and tomahawk, so you can’t go wrong. Similarly, order a selection of sides like our sautéed spinach and buttery mashed potatoes, as well as sauces such as the classic Béarnaise and maitake mushroom gravy to experience an array of complementary avors. Leave room for dessert because Fontainebleau’s talented in-house pastry team makes an incredible chocolate layer cake and crème brûlée. And if you’ve had your ll at dinner, it always makes for a great late-night treat!” - Chef and executive director of culinary, Andrew Zarzosa

LT Steak & Seafood
Betsy Hotel
LT Steak & Seafood is chef Laurent Tourendel’s South Beach gem, nestled inside the Betsy Hotel. The ultimate indulgent evening starts with The Truman Show, the restaurant’s truly bespoke martini that lets you get creative by choosing between a dry, dirty, lthy, pickle, or Gibson martini made with Truman vodka. Your martini will be shaken or stirred to your liking before being garnished with your choice of lemon, olives, glue cheese-stu ed olives, onions, or a gherkin. Pair your martini with caviar, a tiger shrimp cocktail, or oysters while you ponder your main course.
Prime dry-aged and Wagyu steaks are sourced from Chicago’s famed Allen Brothers and range from an eight-ounce let mignon to a 22-ounce bone-in ribeye. Top your steak with a house steak sauce or spice it up with a jalapeno chimichurri. For the “seafood” side of LT Steak & Seafood, enjoy ora king salmon, grilled branzino, or fresh sushi and sashimi.
Chef’s Recommendation:
"If I had to pick a steak, I’d go with a well-prepared New York strip, classic, avorful, and reliably satisfying. No great steak is complete without sides - so I’d pair it with our jalapeño mashed potatoes for a subtle kick and barbecue corn to balance things out with a hint of sweetness and smoke."

Start with classics such as Parker House rolls served with whipped honey butter (from the resort’s own bees), Florida stone crabs (in season), and a melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu strip and lobster katsu sando before the main event. The restaurant does an impeccable beef
“When guests arrive at The Butcher’s Club, we always encourage them to begin with our Caesar salad. It’s anything but traditional, featuring a bright Meyer lemon vinaigrette layered with a housemade Parmesan dressing and delicate baby lettuces sourced from Chef Ford’s farm. The dish is nished with shaved aged parmesan, garlic crumbs, and delicate
sourdough croutons, with unexpected pops of sweetness and crunch from fresh snow peas woven throughout. For the main event, the Swinging Tomahawk is a true signature experience. This isn’t just a steak – it’s a tableside moment. The bone-in cut is presented and nished with a dramatic ame, creating an aromatic, caramelized crust while infusing the meat with a subtle smokiness. It’s rich, perfectly marbled, and designed for sharing.

AAt Pier Sixty-Six, Fort Lauderdale's most legendary address has become a new kind of home, one where the lifestyle isn't just a selling point. In fact, that's the whole point. And for the people who live here, the staycation never ends.
But long before there was a waitlist, Pier Sixty-Six was already telling its own story. The site traces back to a Phillips 66 fuel dock in the 1950s, grew into Fort Lauderdale's social harbor through the 1960s, and played host to everyone from Frank Sinatra to Liza Minnelli. The iconic spire tower was, at the time of its construction, the tallest building in Fort Lauderdale. The rotating Pier Top lounge on its 17th oor became a civic institution.
In 2016, Tavistock Development Company purchased the property and began a multi-billion-dollar redevelopment — one that would quietly erase the line between resort guest and resident. The permanent staycation used to be a fantasy. At Pier SixtySix, it's a oor plan.
at the moment is the Indigo Penthouse: a 7,794-square-foot, ve-bedroom residence on the 10th oor with two private plunge pools, a dedicated tness studio, a private sauna, and 180-degree views spanning the marina, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean. It is listed at $16 million and available for immediate occupancy.

Ownership comes with invitation-only membership to The Club at Pier SixtySix, which includes access to the 13,000-square-foot Zenova Spa & Wellness, home to the region's rst snow room and ceremonial sauna, a dedicated members' pool, private dining venues, and a robust calendar of curated social events.
That last element matters more than it might seem. When Ballon describes the typical buyer, she's not describing someone looking for a second home with nice nishes. She's describing someone who has, o en consciously, decided to restructure their life around experience.
“Highly amenitized destination properties are what people are looking for,” says Amy Ballon, director of sales for Pier Sixty-Six. “They're looking for a comprehensive lifestyle.”
That distinction has shaped the buyer experience in an unexpected way. Many of the people who ultimately purchase here don’t come looking for real estate at all. They start as guests — staying at the resort, docking their boats at the marina during Fort Lauderdale's celebrated boat show season — and discover something they hadn't anticipated: a fully realized lifestyle already in motion.
"They experience the attention to detail, the welcoming drink at check-in, someone walking them through the history and all the di erent components of the property," Ballon says. "And that experience is what prompts them to buy."
For those already familiar with the Pier Sixty-Six name — particularly in the yachting world — the conversation tends to start with the marina. With 5,000 linear feet of dockage and 164 slips accommodating vessels from 40 to 400 feet, it is one of the largest superyacht marinas on the Eastern Seaboard. There are no bridge restrictions to ocean access. But for many boat owners, the marina is just the beginning.
"People understand what Pier Sixty-Six is," Ballon says. "They just don't understand what it has evolved into."
What it has evolved into is 32 waterfront acres anchored by 88 residences across four buildings — two condo buildings, Azul and Indigo, and two resort residences buildings — with prices starting at $3.85 million. The most talked-about listing
"They're marina focused and looking for a lifestyle," she says. The pro le is o en someone with homes in multiple cities who winters in South Florida and wants more than a condominium.
Post-pandemic, that appetite has only deepened. "The question people are asking themselves now is: How do you want your life to feel?" Ballon says. "People went through a period of being isolated, and I think it fundamentally changed how they think about community. They want moments they can remember. They want their families to come and have experiences with them."
It's a shi that has quietly transformed what "buying a condo" means at the top of the market. The conversation has moved from square footage and building amenities to something closer to membership in a place.
Ballon sees it clearly: "The shi is from, 'I'm buying a condo that has a gym and a pool' to, 'I'm buying a property that has restaurants, a spa, culinary experiences, live music, a club.'”
Fort Lauderdale, long positioned as Miami's quieter neighbor to the north, is perhaps the right backdrop for this evolution. Pier Sixty-Six has leaned into the idea of transforming the city from the “Venice of America” to the “Monaco of America.” Buyers from comparable properties have arrived at Pier Sixty-Six curious, Ballon notes, drawn by something that feels both familiar and distinct.
At its core, what Pier Sixty-Six is selling, and what its residents are buying, is the permanent staycation: the idea that the place you come home to should feel as good as the best trip you've ever taken.
"The reality is no longer a dream,” Ballon says.

When the city Becomes the Stadium
FIFA FEVER IS TAKING OVER SOUTH FLORIDA – HERE ARE THE BEST EVENTS AND ACTIVATIONS HAPPENING AROUND TOWN
BY CLARISSA BUCH ZILBERMAN
This summer, South Florida takes its place among the elite host destinations for the FIFA World Cup 26™, welcoming seven matches at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, including knockout rounds and the coveted third-place playo . The games run from June through July, with nearly one million international visitors expected in the region.
From Downtown Miami to the shores of South Beach, the action extends well beyond the stadium. Expect fan festivals, watch parties, pop-ups, and public screenings, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to experience the tournament without securing a ticket

FIFA World Cup 26™ Miami
Fan Festival at Bayfront Park
The epicenter of Miami's World Cup experience takes shape at Bayfront Park, where a sweeping 436,000-square-foot waterfront hub will welcome up to 30,000 fans daily. From June 13 through July 5, giant screens will broadcast matches in real time, putting fans inside the action whether their team is playing in Miami or halfway around the world. There will also be a 10,000-capacity amphitheater stage featuring live performances and cultural showcases, and
a large-scale “Faces of Fan Festival” interactive installation.
Fogo de Chão World Cup Pop-Up at Wynwood Marketplace
Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão takes over Wynwood Marketplace for a 12-day pop-up timed to the high-anticipation June 24 Brazil vs. Scotland showdown at Hard Rock Stadium. Think re-roasted meats, brand activations and programming, and the full spirit of Brazil

brought to life in one of Miami's most culturally charged neighborhoods.
InterContinental Miami World Cup Watch Parties at Toro Toro & SkyLawn
For those who prefer their soccer with a side of luxury, head to the InterContinental Miami during the World Cup. Inside the 34-story landmark, chef Richard Sandoval's Pan-Latin steakhouse Toro Toro will host watch parties with country-themed drink specials, while

themed poolside cabanas and photo moments set the scene throughout the property. Keep an eye out for SkyLawn's "Shoot the Shot,” a rare chance to play pick-up soccer on a roo op greenspace with Biscayne Bay as your backdrop.
Downtown Miami Community Watch Zone at Bayside Marketplace Plaza
Bayside Marketplace transforms into an open-air gathering place for the duration of the tournament. Large-scale public screenings of select matches will bring together residents and visitors in one of Downtown Miami's most walkable settings, paired with live entertainment programming and city-organized fan engagement.
Miami Beach World Cup Fan Zone at Lummus Park

Only in Miami does the World Cup come with an ocean view. Lummus Park along Ocean Drive becomes an open-air fan zone on select match days, o ering large LED screens broadcasting live games, interactive soccer activations, and music programming, all steps from the sand.
Brickell World Cup Outdoor Screening Series at Brickell City Centre Lawn
Coming to Brickell City Centre's open-air promenade on select tournament match days, the outdoor screening series turns the development's
central green into something more than a viewing party. Think oversized screens, immersive decor, and activities the whole family can settle into, all set against the backdrop of one of Miami's most dynamic urban corridors.
Miami Dade County Parks World Cup Watch Series
On designated match days, select MiamiDade County parks will host open-air viewings, o ering big-screen broadcasts at accessible, familiar community spaces across the county. It's a deliberate e ort to spread the energy of one of sport's grandest stages well beyond Hard Rock Stadium's footprint, turning local parks into gathering places where the whole city can share in the moment.

Nowhere to Ride
E-BIKES ARE GETTING BROWARD TEENS OFF SCREENS AND INTO THE REAL WORLD. SO, WHY ARE THEY BEING PUSHED OFF SIDEWALKS, OUT OF PARKS, AND INTO TRAFFIC?
BY JESSE SCOTT

n any given a ernoon, teenagers glide past on electric bikes, headed to the beach, a friend’s house, a pickup game, or simply nowhere in particular.
For many, it’s their rst taste of independence in a region built around cars, cars, and more cars.
Many parents have spent years worrying about screen time and social isolation. E-bikes o er a rare alternative that actually sticks: social, active, and hands-on. Riders can learn routes, tra c awareness, and basic mechanical skills. “I grew up being told, ‘Go outside and don’t come back until it’s dark,’” says Amy Dunford, an East Fort Lauderdale mother of three. “Now we’re begging kids to get o their
screens... and when they nally do, they’re getting reprimanded for it.”
That freedom comes with a complicated question: where, exactly, are they supposed to ride?
Sidewalks bring con ict with pedestrians. Roads introduce cars moving 40 to 50 miles per hour. Bike lanes, where they exist, o en feel incomplete or ignored.
For Dunford, the stakes are personal. Her 13-yearold son, Nikki, has been seriously injured twice: once when a driver ran a red light and struck him on State Road 84, and another time when he collided with a hazard le across a sidewalk, requiring dozens of stitches. “He was doing everything right... helmet, padding, proper gear,” she says. “And he was still in terrible shape. That’s not an accident. That’s a system

failure.”
Speed is part of the concern. An e-bike can move far faster than a pedestrian expects on a sidewalk, yet its rider remains exposed beside cars. That in-between space - too fast for one environment, too vulnerable for another - is where much of the tension lives.
The Law
Under Florida Statute 316.2065 and related provisions governing electric bicycles, e-bikes are largely treated the same as traditional bicycles. Riders do not need a license, registration, or insurance, and they are generally allowed on streets, bike lanes, and many sidewalks. The law also makes clear that e-bikes are vehicles in the same sense as bicycles, with the same rights and duties.
But the same statute explicitly allows local governments to regulate where e-bikes can operate—on streets, sidewalks, parks, trails, and even beaches. That carveout is where things begin to splinter. Broward’s cities and parks layer on their own rules, creating a patchwork that can shi from one neighborhood to the next.
commuters.
Perception Problem
Part of the challenge is that residents o en lump together e-bikes, scooters, delivery riders, and higher-powered electric motorcycles. Viral videos of reckless riding or police chases amplify that fear, even when most kids are simply using e-bikes to get around. “These kids are going to the beach, shing, seeing friends,” Dunford says. “They’re choosing to be outside. That should count for something.”
WE’RE BUILDING THESE MASSIVE HOMES AND HIGHRISES, SELLING AN
OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE,” DUNFORD SAYS. “BUT WHERE IS THE SAFE SPACE FOR PEOPLE TO ACTUALLY BE OUTSIDE?”
The result is a system that’s di cult for adults to track, much less teenagers. Dunford says her son and his friends have been pulled over, questioned, and asked where they were going. She worries groups of teens are o en treated with suspicion simply because they’re visible. “There’s this assumption that if they’re on e-bikes, they’re doing something wrong,” she says.
At the state level, lawmakers are trying to catch up.
Earlier this year, the Florida Bicycle Association backed House Bill 243, a proposal aimed at creating clearer statewide standards for how e-bikes interact with pedestrians. Among its provisions: requiring riders to yield on shared paths, slow to 10 miles per hour when pedestrians are nearby on sidewalks, and establishing consistent rules across jurisdictions.
The bill also pushes for better data, mandating that law enforcement agencies track e-bike crashes and report them to the state, with a comprehensive safety report expected in 2026. It calls for the creation of an Electric Bicycle Safety Task Force to study infrastructure, enforcement, and education statewide. Notably, the proposal stops short of adding licensing requirements for riders, re ecting concerns about creating barriers for teens and young
Instead, the most extreme moments tend to shape the narrative. A group of teens riding together stands out. A group of teens scrolling indoors does not. At the core of the debate is infrastructure. Broward was largely built for cars. Sidewalks vary widely. Dedicated bike lanes are inconsistent. Protected lanes—physically separated from tra c—remain rare. That gap grows sharper as development accelerates. “We’re building these massive homes and high-rises, selling an outdoor lifestyle,” Dunford says. “But where is the safe space for people to actually be outside?”
E-bike riders don’t t neatly into existing systems. They move di erently from pedestrians, drivers, and traditional cyclists. Without a clear, designated place to ride, teens improvise, switching between sidewalks, streets, and trails depending on what feels least dangerous. For parents, that calculation is unnerving. “I don’t worry about my kids,” Dunford says. “I worry about everyone else.”
What Comes Next
There is no single x. Protected bike lanes would help, but require funding and coordination. Clearer statewide standards—like those proposed in House Bill 243—could reduce confusion. Education for drivers, riders, schools, and parents remains essential. For now, Broward’s e-bike debate continues block by block. The rise of teen riders has exposed a larger question about how South Florida moves, builds, and shares public space.
In a region where outdoor living is part of the sales pitch, the infrastructure has not kept pace with how families actually live. Until it does, the question lingers on sidewalks, streets, and in parents’ minds: Where are Broward’s kids supposed to ride?

We know what it’s like to make payroll, push through setbacks, and build from the ground up.
That’s why we started Locality Bank: to empower local businesses to maximize their potential.

Bali’s InvestmentBoutique Play
A design-forward villa collection in Nuanu City blends lifestyle appeal with institutional-grade returns for South Florida’s globally minded investors BY
JESSE SCOTT

For South Florida investors accustomed to scanning Miami, Palm Beach, and beyond for their next opportunity, a compelling play is taking shape half a world away. It merges hospitality-grade infrastructure, curated design, and a forward-thinking lifestyle into a single asset class.
The Origins Villa Complex, a boutique collection of just 18 residences within Bali’s emerging Nuanu City, positions itself as a rare hybrid: part luxury home, part professionally managed investment vehicle.
Set within a 108.7-acre master-planned coastal development, Nuanu City is no small undertaking. Backed by entrepreneur and investor Sergey Solonin, whose portfolio spans ntech, education, and global tech ventures, the project is envisioned as a fully integrated ecosystem where residential, hospitality, education, and wellness infrastructure intersect. The city already encompasses dozens of completed projects, with cultural venues, the Cambridgeaccredited ProEd Global School, co-working hubs, botanical gardens, and hospitality o erings woven into daily life.
At the center of it is Origins.
The villas are designed with intention. Expect double-height ceilings, expansive panoramic windows, and private elements that elevate the experience, from pools and koi ponds to roo op terraces designed for entertaining. Each residence is delivered fully furnished, down to curated artwork by
internationally recognized artist Riz Riz Rizz, whose works have been sold for upwards of $25,000, reinforcing the turnkey nature of the investment. For buyers accustomed to navigating multiple layers of design and buildout, that simplicity is part of the appeal and makes each villa both a ve-star-level residence and a private gallery.
Pricing begins at approximately $537,000 for a two-bedroom villa, with larger three- and four-bedroom con gurations scaling upward to $1,446,000 and beyond. For South Florida buyers, where lifestyle-driven properties with comparable design ambition command signi cantly higher entry points, the relative value stands out. It is a global lifestyle play priced at a fraction of what many investors are accustomed to seeing stateside.
The real story, however, is performance. Origins is structured with hospitality partnerships that mirror institutionalgrade assets. A letter of intent with Dusit Hotels & Resorts introduces global distribution and professional revenue management, while The Sincura Group, known for servicing high-net-worth clientele and luxury brands, oversees concierge and guest operations. The result is a property designed to function seamlessly as a short-term rental asset, with occupancy and guest experience handled at a high level.
Projected returns land in the mid-teens annually, with payback periods estimated at six to seven years, driven by Bali’s consistently strong tourism metrics

and high occupancy rates across villa properties. For investors seeking yield in a market where domestic returns are increasingly compressed, that level of performance is di cult to ignore.
“Bali is a trend market. You invest and typically see your capital returned within about seven years, o en sooner depending on strategy,” says Ekaterina Chernysheva, a real estate expert with Elite Ocean View Realty, representing the project. “Between the pricing, the demand, and the built-in management, it’s a very clear investment case.”
Execution is another di erentiator.
In a market where permitting and construction timelines can be inconsistent, the developer secured approvals prior to breaking ground, mitigating a key layer of risk. Construction is already underway, with a targeted completion of March 2027, backed by contractual delivery guarantees, an uncommon level of accountability in emerging international markets.
Lifestyle remains central to the equation. Nuanu City is being developed as a sustainability-minded environment, prioritizing electric mobility, green space, and wellnessdriven amenities. The intent is to create a cleaner, more curated alternative to Bali’s more congested areas, appealing to a growing base of global buyers seeking both quality of life and long-term asset appreciation.
For those looking to diversify beyond domestic markets, the timing aligns with broader trends. Bali continues to rank among Asia’s most visited destinations, supported by steady tourism growth and ongoing infrastructure investment. That demand underpins both short-term rental performance and long-term asset value.
Origins is not the developer’s only move. A second project in Kedungu, a coastal enclave gaining traction as a surf and lifestyle destination, o ers additional entry points, with rising occupancy and increasing demand pointing to continued upside. Still, Origins stands as the agship: a limited, design-forward collection within a larger vision of nextgeneration living.

Dig Deeper
THE DAUGHTER OF A PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAMER TAKES TO THE SAND TO GIVE BACK
BY CLARISSA BUCH ZILBERMAN
Zoë Taylor's award-winning beach volleyball career didn't start with a grand plan. It began with her mom, Katina Taylor, who wouldn't stop signing her daughter up for activities.
Nearly a decade later, it has led her to establish Dig Deeper, South Florida's rst nonpro t beach volleyball and life skills camp for underserved youth.
"She forced me into it," Zoë Taylor, 20, says with a laugh, recalling how her mother cycled her through dance, basketball, soccer — practically every sport imaginable — before volleyball nally stuck. By eighth grade, Zoë found her game. But when COVID arrived and gyms closed, Taylor took her passion to the sand.
"I got the opportunity to play on the beach, and I decided that I wanted to pursue this for my collegiate career,” says Taylor.
That pivot, born of a pandemic and a stretch of South Florida shoreline, led Zoë to back-to-back Miami Herald Beach Volleyball Player of the Year honors, a commitment to LSU, a transfer to Arizona State, and a sophomore season competing at the Division I level. For the daughter of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, who spent 15 years in the NFL, elite competition is the family language.
But winning on the court was just the start. During Taylor’s senior year at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, as she watched her mother pour herself into the family’s youth sports nonpro t, Champions4Character, Taylor was inspired to give back
in her own way.
"I think it came to be by seeing my mom and wanting to give kids an opportunity to play the sport I loved," she says.
That something is Dig Deeper, which is now heading into its third year.
On June 4, 65 girls from the Boys & Girls Club will spend the day on the sand with Taylor and ten NCAA beach volleyball athletes she's recruited from programs across the country.
The sport is the entry point. The mission, however, goes further. "We teach them life skills — how to be con dent, how to make new friends, how to learn new skills — and just give them a positive space to get active and exercise."

For girls who may never have touched a volleyball, a single day on that beach can reframe what they believe is possible for themselves. And for Taylor, the camp's growth has been the most meaningful part. "It just keeps being more special each time," she says.
Girls from the rst two years keep coming back, some now in their early twenties. "They just want to keep learning," Taylor says. "They're all open to getting better."
Beyond South Florida, Taylor aspires to launch Dig Deeper in Arizona and beyond.
"I live there basically half of the year," she says of Tempe, "so I want to give back to my community there." "I want to bring it around the U.S.," she says. "Giving all these deserving kids the chance to learn the sport of beach volleyball and see if it sparks something great for them is driving me to reach farther.”

RELEVANCE + RELATIONSHIPS = RESPONSIVENESS
HOW TO CAPTURE ATTENTION IN 2026
Have you tried to get someone’s attention lately and gotten crickets… nothing…back? Whether it’s a potential client, a busy colleague, or even just your teenager, it’s harder than ever to cut through the noise.

I get it — we are all INUNDATED with emails, texts, DMs, notifications, pings and dings. So when something does catch your attention, it’s probably not because it’s louder. I’d bet that it’s smarter, more thoughtful, and acutely relevant to your needs.
This subtle shift is happening in public relations, but the lesson applies far beyond my industry. I’m confident that these three things—relevance, relationships, and responsiveness— will help you get noticed, no matter the subject matter.
Start with relevance.
Before you hit send on your message, pause and ask yourself: why would this matter to them? Not to you—to them. We all instinctively open the messages that feel like they were meant for us— and ignore the ones that don’t. Whether you’re making an introduction, asking for something, or sharing an idea, a small amount of thoughtfulness and context goes a long way. Make sure you explicitly spell out your “why” up front. Relationships still run the show.
In 2026, real relationships are your
edge. People respond to people they know, like, and trust. Trust me, it’s that simple.
This doesn’t mean working a room or collecting business cards. It means showing up, and following up. Checking in, not checking out: staying connected even when you don’t need something. Those small, consistent touchpoints build trust, and trust is what gets returned calls, opened emails, and yes, actual responses.
The fastest way to get ignored? Irrelevance. Every time. If something feels off-target, most of us don’t give it a second chance: we delete and move on. So if you can’t clearly answer why your message matters to the person receiving it, it’s probably not ready to send, or should not be sent at all.

And about those shortcuts…
Yes, technology makes it easier than ever to reach more people, faster. But people can spot a mass ChatGPTwritten email from a mile away. If you are using generative AI to help you capture someone’s attention, use it thoughtfully. Don’t let it replace your voice, your tone, your personality.
The bottom line: You don’t have to be the loudest voice in the room, you just have to be the one that actually resonates.
That’s how you actually get through.

Sweet Melody Ice Cream’s Mike
Romeu Balances Fatherhood and Entrepreneurship
In 2016, Mike Romeu picked up a home ice cream maker that was gathering dust in his garage. The primary parent of four-year-old Melody, Romeu started making ice cream for his friends, experimenting with a passionfruit basil sorbet and a blueberry cheesecake ice cream. What started as a hobby quickly turned into something more. Romeu named the fledgling business Sweet Melody after his daughter, incorporating her drawings on the labels. For the first few years, Romeu would make ice cream, then deliver it to the local cafes that believed in him. In 2020, Romeu opened an ice cream-making facility in west Kendall, complete with Miami’s first ice cream “ventanita” – a walk-up window where patrons could buy their ice cream.
Fast forward several years, and Sweet Melody has just opened its first Fort Lauderdale ice cream shop in trendy Flagler Village, with plans to open a fifthi location in Brickell. Though the business success is satisfying, there’s something Romeu finds far more fulfilling: Being a girl dad.
My family is Melody. We’re so close, we’re joined at the hip,” says Romeu. “Being a girl dad means committing to be the best version of myself – which I’m still not.”
The ice cream entrepreneur adds that Melody is more than his ice cream muse – she’s the entire reason why the business is successful. “At the beginning, she inspired the company, but since I named it after my daughter I have to follow through. That thought transformed me.”
South Florida ice cream lovers have followed the father and daughter on social media, watching the bond between them grow – many times through music. “I taught her to appreciate the Beatles, singing Hey Jude and Blackbird to her when she was little. Her first concert was Paul McCartney and we got to him him sing all those songs. It was the best day of my life.” They also saw Taylor Swift, with Romeu sharing a shocking revelation: “Between us, I’m the hard core Swiftie. When Folklore came out, I hadn’t been moved by music as much in maybe a decade. Melody actually likes Olivia Rodrigo more.”
As a teen, Melody is finding her path in the world. She was just accepted into the prestigious New World School of the Arts with an eye toward the bright lights of Broadway. Romeu says that the business will always be there if she wants it but he just wants her to be happy. More than ice cream, Romeu wants her legacy to be resilience. “I want her to see that I strived for my goals and made them happen. That’s what I want my legacy to be.”
Romeu says that growing a business and raising a daughter at the same time wasn’t always easy – but the key has always been communication and priorities. “I hide nothing from Melody. I think it’s really important to be honest with your kids. In return, Melody is so grounded and mature for her age.” As for work-life balance? “I think that means something different to everyone,” says the dadand-entrepreneur. “I think running this business for my daughter and putting down roots makes me happy. And she knows, if she needs me I am there.”
With Father’s Day coming up, Romeu knows the gift he wants from his daughter. “The best gift I could have is to continue watching Melody excel and shine. I see the way she treats people and how she’s striving to reach her goals and that is sweeter than any ice cream cone could ever be. To me that’s life. It’s my oxygen.”
