Happy New Year and hello, 2026. We made it! January tends to arrive with good intentions and a very long checklist. Drink more water. Sleep better. Move your body. Become your most optimized self by Monday… it’s a lot. And for most of us juggling work, family, and social lives, it can feel more exhausting than inspiring. That’s why the first issue of the year takes a different approach. Health and wellness aren’t about punishment or perfection, and they definitely don’t require pressing pause on real life. Today’s conversation is smarter and more personal. It’s about understanding how our bodies actually work, how stress sneaks in, and how preventative care and biohacking can help us feel better now and stronger later. This month, I put some of that thinking to the test—literally. I went to Humanaut, a biohacking and longevity center, for a full workup: blood panels, scans, detailed insights—everything short of a lie detector. The results were shockingly kind and reminded me that preventative care isn’t about fear. It’s about finally understanding what your body needs. We’re also spotlighting leaders shaping the future of healthcare and wellness—from innovators advancing longevity science to practitioners redefining personalized medicine. And because wellness in South Florida includes a healthy dose of aesthetics, we looked at the booming industry that’s put our region at number one nationwide. The city ranked number two might surprise you. The most exciting shift is that wellness has evolved past extremes. It’s no longer a choice between green juice or good wine. The new goal is balance—feeling clear enough to enjoy both. Today’s approach is built for real lives, real schedules, and real indulgences. Feeling well isn’t about reaching a finish line. It’s about showing up energized in the lives we’re already living. The goal isn’t just to look good this year. It’s to feel good while we’re living it. So, here’s to a 2026 that feels as good as it looks, no filter required. Yours in good health,

SHARK STYLE

Go coastal with the new Greg Norman & Dr. Guy Harvey collab. Golf meets ocean in the most fin-tastic way. Greg Norman Collection, the global golf-lifestyle brand known for its iconic four-color shark logo, has teamed up with world-renowned marine wildlife artist and conservationist Dr. Guy Harvey for a limited-edition capsule celebrating their shared love of the ocean’s most fascinating predators. The GNC x Guy Harvey collection splashes Harvey’s bold, dynamic artwork across a 19-piece lineup of polos, tees, hoodies, and swimwear. The first release features performance-ready golf polos alongside laidback beachwear, with a second drop arriving February 1, 2026. “When we look at those who love our shark, we see those who also appreciate Guy Harvey’s work and his commitment to ocean life,” said

Michael J. Setola, President and CEO of Tharanco Lifestyles. “If you enjoy any time at the beach, Guy Harvey’s artwork is part of the lifestyle, and sometimes, the landscape.” A portion of proceeds supports marine science and education through the Guy Harvey Foundation, giving every polo and pullover a purpose beyond style. For Dr. Harvey, the collaboration is a natural fit. “This collection isn’t just about apparel; it’s about inspiring people to enjoy, respect, and protect the natural world,” he said. Consider it performance wear with a mission: art you can play in, style you can live in, and a cause worth championing. Dive in. gregnormancollection.com.

FUTURE-PROOF YOUR FACE

A next-generation DNA defense cream is redefining what daily protection looks like. A new year invites a reset—fresh goals, refined routines, and smarter choices when it comes to self-care. In skincare, that shift is increasingly focused on long-term health, not just instant results. CielementsMD® Daily DNA / UVA Defense Cream represents this next evolution, delivering protection that works beneath the surface where damage actually begins. Developed through rigorous dermatologic research, this non-nano daily defense cream harnesses a patented combination of CannaXR® and Z-pod® Technology, an advanced delivery system engineered to stabilize active ingredients and drive them deeper into the skin. By maximizing absorption, the formula offers sustained protection and rejuvenation—transforming daily skin care into a preventative wellness ritual. What truly sets CielementsMD® apart is the science behind it. A recent clinical study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD) marked the first in-human trial to demonstrate that a CBD-based topical can reduce UVAinduced DNA damage at the cellular level. The study showed the formula helps prevent mutations in both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA, changes linked to accelerated aging and increased skin cancer risk. As awareness grows around the cumulative effects of everyday UVA exposure, skincare is shifting from reactive to preventative. CielementsMD® Daily DNA / UVA Defense Cream answers that call—offering clinically proven, daily protection designed for modern life. It’s a powerful way to start the year focused on stronger, smarter skin—today and for years to come. cielementsmd.com

LIFE&STYLE WORTH THE WAIT

Louis Vuitton’s latest flagship brings Parisian polish and bespoke craftsmanship to Palm Beach’s iconic Worth Avenue. Luxury design has a new home in Palm Beach County. Perigold, the premier destination for high-end furnishings and décor, has opened its second brick-and-mortar location—an expansive, 30,000-square-foot flagship in CityPlace, downtown West Palm Beach’s vibrant retail and cultural hub. Following the brand’s debut in Houston earlier this year, the new store offers South Florida’s design community an immersive way to experience Perigold’s digital world in person. “West Palm Beach is a vibrant and fast-growing market, and our customers here are already deeply engaged with Perigold online,” said Rebecca Ginns, Global Head of Perigold. “By opening a store in CityPlace, we’re making it

38

even easier for design-savvy shoppers and professionals to discover, experience, and collaborate with us in person.” The two-story space showcases more than 150 luxury brands—including Visual Comfort & Co., Oly, Scalamandré, and Stark Rugs—with designer vignettes, a dedicated sleep center, and expanded kitchen displays. Collaboration areas for designers and clients reflect Perigold’s emphasis on creativity and connection. “This store is more than a showroom—it’s an invitation into the world of Perigold,” Ginns added. The brand’s arrival underscores CityPlace’s evolution as a premier destination for luxury, design, and culture in South Florida.

very January arrives with the same familiar pressure to reset, reinvent, and overhaul. Ainsley Rodriguez is not interested in any of that. Instead, she offers something far more sustainable to her global audience of more than two million: consistency, patience, and habits that fit into real life. Ainsley, who lives in Fort Lauderdale with her restaurateur husband, Jarred John, and their baby girl, Mia Sophia, built her following the same way she built her approach to wellness: slowly, honestly, and with purpose. She never set out to create a digital platform, it happened organically. “I started sharing healthy recipes and workouts online long before it was a thing,” she says. “There was no strategy at first. Just passion and consistency.” That foundation still defines her message today. Her content is not aspirational in a distant, polished way. It is practical, adaptable, and grounded in lived experience. A Foundation Built Early Ainsley grew up in Miami immersed in dance, spending countless hours training and performing. She was equally driven academically and entered college at just 16. The combination shaped her early and shaped her well. “Movement and dance taught me discipline, creativity, and how to stay connected to my body,” she says. “Academics taught me focus and consistency.

Together, they built the mindset I carry into my work today.” During college, weightlifting became her personal sanctuary. “It was my escape, my little pocket of time that was just for me,” she says. What began as stress relief became a lifelong anchor, something she protected through every demanding season. Friends began asking for tips and routines. “That was when I realized I wasn’t just learning for myself anymore,” she says. “I was figuring out how to help others feel strong too.” From Content to Community When she started posting simple meals and workouts, she did not expect the response to feel so personal. “People weren’t just liking posts,” she says. “They were asking questions, trying the workouts, and coming back.” Over time, it shifted her perspective. “That’s when it stopped feeling like content and started feeling like a community.” Behind the scenes, the work is anything but effortless. “Most people don’t realize how many hats you have to wear,” Ainsley says. Creator, editor, strategist, community manager. Often all at once. Discipline and intention keep everything moving. A Smarter Way to Start the Year Her approach resonates especially in January. “I’m a big believer in starting small,” she says. “January does not need a full life overhaul.” Rather than dramatic resets, she focuses on realistic, repeatable actions. “Add some type of movement to your day. Drink more water than you did yesterday. Find one simple routine that grounds you,” she says. “Little habits are the ones that stick. They build momentum.” Her own routine reflects what she teaches. “Move a little every day. Choose one morning habit that centers you. Make at least one nourishing decision you’re proud of,” she says. “It doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be consistent.” She also hopes to shift the pressure people place on themselves at the start of the year. “I hope we move away from extreme cleanses and the idea that you need to overhaul your entire life in one week,” she says. “Health should feel supportive, not intimidating.”

WELLNESS SHOULD MAKE YOUR LIFE FEEL BIGGER, NOT SMALLER.” Redefining Strength Through Motherhood Since welcoming Mia Sophia in early October, Ainsley’s understanding of strength has evolved. “Postpartum has taught me more about patience and strength than any workout ever could,” she says. Her routine now adjusts to each day, slower and more intuitive than before. “Strength is not just physical anymore,” she says. “It’s emotional and mental too.” For women easing back into movement, she encourages flexibility and restraint. “Start with what fits your energy that day,” she says. “A stroller walk, ten minutes of movement, or just reconnecting with your core. It’s about rebuilding trust with your body.” Eating Well Without Missing Out Her approach to food is equally grounded. With her husband and his brother leading Damn Good Hospitality, the group behind Warren American Whiskey Kitchen, Room Nine01, Revolution Live, Backyard, and Stache Drinking Den, dining out

is part of everyday life. “Balance and portion control are everything,” Ainsley says. “We love ordering a few dishes and sharing. That way you can enjoy everything without overdoing it.” Her method is simple and sustainable. Start with vegetables, choose a lean protein, and share the indulgent dishes. “Swapping fried for grilled or getting dressing on the side makes a big difference,” she adds. And she knows her order. “The filet is my absolute go-to.” Looking Ahead As she looks toward the year ahead, Ainsley is not chasing growth for the sake of growth. She is focused on helping people create habits that make their everyday lives feel fuller and more energized. “Wellness should make your life feel bigger, not smaller,” she says. “Choose habits that energize you. Routines that support you. Movement that actually brings you joy.”

Proud parents, Jarred John & Ainsley Rodriguez, welcomed Mia Sophia in October 2025.

NEW YEAR, NEW NARRATIVE: YOUR 30-SECOND PERSONAL BRAND REFRESH FOR 2026 The New Year presents us with boundless opportunities to reset. Each January 1st, we talk about fresh starts: better habits, bigger goals. But the most practical reset is also the most overlooked: how you introduce yourself when opportunity is in the room. Whether you’re walking into a networking event, a pitch meeting, or even just a quick catch-up with an old

And now comes the magic shift: trade self-promotion for storytelling. After your introduction, you can lean into specific anecdotal evidence of yourself in action. Story is persuasive without being performative. It makes your expertise feel real. Share your experiences in a story-forward way to inspire connection and interest in your conversation partner.

friend, people decide who you are and what drives you in about thirty seconds. Your job is to make every single one of those seconds count. So how do you rock that thirtysecond introduction or re-introduction? Start by tightening your “what I do” into something that packs a punch—short, specific, and human. Instead of a title (or a vague “I’m in marketing / finance / real estate”), try a one-liner that feels singular, interesting, and missionoriented. It’s the difference between blending in and being remembered. While it doesn’t need to sound salesy, it should sound like you know what you hope to accomplish. Next, give yourself a simple “ready file” you can pull up anytime with some of your wins. Think one strong quote from someone credible, a short origin story that explains your point of view, and a few links—or even better, press—that show your work in motion. That way, if someone asks for a follow up, you’ll be ready to hit send while they are still in front of you!

Finally, practice! Work on this elevator pitch consistently; not just when there’s an event. Speak it to your spouse, say it in the shower, rehearse it on a walk with your dog. Ask yourself:

The ArtofAging Intentionally RAINA SIMONE IS REDEFINING MODERN AESTHETICS AND THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT AGING

efore Raina Simone considers what to enhance, she considers what holds everything up. Her work begins in the deeper layers most people never think about, where collagen, fascia, and subtle shifts in structure determine how a face carries time. “We’re not just softening wrinkles,” she says. “We’re rebuilding skin architecture.” The line lands quietly, but it captures the discipline behind her method and the reason patients describe her results as quietly transformative.

The New Frontier of Non-Surgical Medicine Simone belongs to a new class of aesthetic practitioners pushing non-surgical medicine into territory once reserved for plastic surgeons. The devices in her treatment room are not the ones making viral rounds on TikTok. They are next-generation platforms capable of deep remodeling and long-term structural change. When she speaks about the Luxora QuantumRF10, for instance, it is with the calm certainty of someone who has seen aesthetic medicine permanently shift. Tightening without incisions. Structural support without anesthesia. Results that challenge the old hierarchy of what counts as “real.” “The gap between aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery is closing faster than anyone expected,” she says. Her role in this shift is strategic as much as it is technical. Patients preparing for future surgery might see her to strengthen the tissue that will later support a surgeon’s work. Others, determined to avoid surgery altogether, discover a landscape of options that barely existed a decade ago. And as the industry expands, so has her scope: peptides, hormone optimization, intimate vitality treatments. In her view, longevity is not a trend but the new baseline.

A Philosophy of Precision and Restraint Simone’s aesthetic philosophy is defined by proportion and restraint. She has no interest in the exaggerated silhouettes

dominating social media or the aggressively “done” look of hypercurated faces. “I never chase trends,” she says. Instead, she focuses on structural harmony, collagen support, and results that read as elevated rather than altered. Her younger patients arrive with a level of sophistication that earlier generations never had. Living in a world where every pore is captured in ultra-high definition and every treatment is dissected online has made them far more informed about prevention, collagen loss, and long-term skin health. “We start losing collagen at twenty-five,” she notes, a fact that has reshaped the way this generation approaches skincare and procedures. Prevention has quietly replaced panic: collagen banking, early tightening, regenerative therapies that sustain the face’s underlying structure rather than masking its decline. When someone arrives clutching a celebrity screenshot, Simone reframes the conversation. She asks which results they believe the trend will deliver. “Most people are chasing an outcome, not the procedure,” she says. It is her way of redirecting attention from imitation to intention, always protecting the anatomy in front of her and the version of it that will exist years from now.

The Human Impact Behind the Science For all the science and sophistication that define her practice, Simone returns most often to the emotional resonance of the work. “I love building relationships with my patients,” she says. “They become very dear to me, and watching their confidence grow is the true reward.” She believes the beauty industry is entering a more intentional era. Less fixation on erasing age. More interest in understanding it. Less emphasis on transformation. More on refinement, preservation, and structural integrity. Her philosophy captures that shift and she distills it with a clarity that reflects her entire approach. “You deserve to feel good in your skin,” she says. “When you feel good, you move through the world differently and you pay that forward.” rainasimone.com

Art, Identity, and the Power to Begin Again MEET THE COUPLE REDEFINING TATTOOS, REMOVALS, AND SECOND CHANCES

isandra Chaviano and her husband, Amaury Ramírez, have created something rare: two studios under one roof that honor both the art of tattooing and the choice to let go of ink that no longer fits. Together, they offer a full-circle approach to self-expression that blends artistry with science. Amaury opened Bad Habits Tattoos in 2013 with the intention of elevating what a tattoo studio could be. “Fort Lauderdale has such a deep tattoo culture, and that’s one of the things we love most about being here,” he says. As a family-owned business, he wanted to create an environment grounded in trust and personal connection, shaped by more than twenty years of experience as a tattoo artist. At the same time, Lisandra was working in radiologic technology at a local hospital, developing the expertise that would eventually transform their shared path. “My background gave me a deep understanding of how light, energy, and tissue interact, which is the foundation of laser science,” she explains. “Every millimeter mattered, not just technically but emotionally.” But something was missing. “I wanted to use my skills in a way that gave me more personal connection with people and more freedom in my life,” she says. Amaury encouraged her to step into something new. “He saw how my medical background could bring something completely new to the industry and really believed in the vision before I did.” In 2018, the couple launched BH Laser. His artistic insight informs her removal strategies, and her clinical understanding of skin sharpens his work. Together, they understand the full life cycle of a tattoo, from the moment someone chooses it to the moment they decide to begin again.

certain pigments. The Trinity eliminates that limitation.” She takes comfort just as seriously. “We use a state-of-the-art cooling system that dramatically reduces heat and discomfort. Because of my medical background, I take pain management very seriously.” Tattoo removal is a highly personalized process. “Costs and the number of sessions can vary depending on the size, colors, and depth of the tattoo, as well as the client’s skin type,” she says. “Most tattoos require between six to ten sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart, though some fade beautifully in fewer.” BH Laser begins with a free consultation and transparent pricing, with financing options through CareCredit and Afterpay. “It is a true medical-grade laser system, designed for precision and safety,” she adds. Their menu of services extends far beyond tattoo removal. BH Laser specializes in permanent makeup removal, scalp micropigmentation removal, sun and age spot correction, and carbon laser facials, which have become a client favorite before special events.

Rewrite Your Story Their commitment to transformation deepens through their Rewrite Your Story program, which offers free tattoo removal for individuals seeking a fresh start. “We started it to help people remove visible tattoos that might be holding them back from job opportunities, military service, or simply a new chapter,” she says. One client needed face and neck tattoos removed before joining the military. “We worked with him through the full process until every tattoo was gone. Today, he is proudly serving and using his story to inspire others.”

Education and the Future Inside BH Laser Their Fort Lauderdale studio, now one of two BH Laser locations, features white walls, glossy floors, touches of gold, velvet seating, and lush greenery. It feels serene and elevated. “The space is bright, modern, and meticulously clean, more like a luxury studio than what people imagine when they think of a tattoo shop,” Lisandra says. “Each room was created to give clients their own private environment where they can relax and feel completely at ease.” Technology is the backbone of their results. Lisandra uses the Astanza Trinity laser system. “It combines three powerful wavelengths, allowing us to target and remove all ink colors safely and effectively,” she explains. “Most lasers only have one or two wavelengths, which means they struggle with

Education is another cornerstone of BH Laser. “Too many people are buying lasers without fully understanding skin biology, wavelengths, or safety protocols,” she explains. She trains practitioners to ensure safer, more informed work across the industry. “Laser technology is constantly advancing, and staying ahead is something we take very seriously.” She believes the future of lasers reaches far beyond aesthetics. “I see lasers being used not just for correction, but for restoration, helping the body heal itself at a cellular level.” For Lisandra and Amaury, the motivation remains simple. “Seeing both locations thrive and being able to help so many people together has been one of the most fulfilling parts of our journey.” bhlasertattooremoval.com LMGFL.COM | JANUARY 2026 57

Beauty, Brains, and the New Era of Modern Dentistry THE WOMAN GIVING SOUTH FLORIDA SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT.

beautiful smile can brighten a room, but a healthy one can transform a life. That’s the philosophy central to the work of Dr. Natalia Alvarado. Her approach blends advanced training, modern technology, and a calm, patient-first presence that has become a hallmark of her practice. And while her expertise could have taken her anywhere, her path led her home. "Fort Lauderdale is where I grew up, where I went to school, and where my roots are," she says. After graduating from the University of Florida College of Dentistry, she returned with intention. "I knew I wanted to bring advanced, world-class dentistry back to my community." Building All Smiles Dental gave her the chance to work with familiar faces and create an environment built on trust, comfort, and genuine connection. Her training at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI) places her among an elite group of clinicians who prioritize the relationship between form and function, a foundation that guides her work long before aesthetics come into play. That training, she explains, goes far deeper than appearance alone. A smile cannot be truly beautiful unless it is balanced with the muscles, jaw position, bite, and long-term oral health. "Cosmetic dentistry isn’t just about how a smile looks—it’s about how it feels, performs, and contributes to long-term oral health." Today’s cosmetic dentistry is highly personalized, relying on advanced digital tools that allow patients to preview transformations before treatment begins. The final result must harmonize with a person’s facial features, lip line, skin tone, personality, and expressions. Her goal, she says, is simple: creating the most natural version of each patient’s best smile. One of the most distinctive elements of Dr. Alvarado’s work is her expertise in neuromuscular dentistry. Although still unfamiliar to many patients, it is one of the most powerful tools for improving both comfort and appearance. Neuromuscular dentistry examines the system of muscles,

nerves, and joints that guide the jaw. When these elements work in balance, patients often experience fewer headaches, reduced tension, and improved bite stability. "When your bite is aligned with the natural resting position of your jaw, everything functions better," she says. For many patients, that improved balance affects everyday quality of life, from better sleep to reduced facial and neck tension. Many of the symptoms she treats surprise patients. Jaw clicking, chronic headaches, worn or chipped teeth, clenching, grinding, neck tension, and difficulty chewing can often be traced back to misalignment. "Many patients don’t realize these issues are dental in origin, but correcting the bite often resolves them." Her restorative cases reflect the same whole-picture perspective. She describes her approach as holistic and integrative, combining advanced imaging, digital planning, neuromuscular analysis, and cosmetic design principles. The goal is not simply to repair a tooth, but to rebuild functional harmony throughout the entire mouth. Technology plays a driving role in her practice, from digital dentistry and 3D printing to AI-driven treatment planning and ultra-precise imaging. These advancements help reduce guesswork, eliminate uncomfortable impressions, and deliver more precise, customized results—making care faster, more accurate, and increasingly patient-centered. Used thoughtfully, these tools allow her to plan treatment with greater intention and clarity for both doctor and patient. For Dr. Alvarado, however, even the most advanced technology is only part of the equation. Many patients arrive anxious, often due to past dental trauma or uncertainty, and she believes comfort begins with communication. "For a lot of people, the dentist is tied to fear or past experiences," she says. "My goal is to change that—to make patients feel seen, heard, and genuinely comfortable from the moment they walk in." Looking ahead, her focus remains on balancing innovation with trust. "Dentistry is evolving quickly," she says. "But at the end of the day, it’s still about people trusting you with their health—and that’s something I never take lightly." allsmilesfl.com

Ahead of the Curve A SMARTER APPROACH TO STAYING WELL BY J E S S I C A G R AV E S

ellness today lives at the intersection of intention and overwhelm. We track our sleep, count our steps, manage stress through apps and breathwork, flirt with Dry January, and browse an endless carousel of longevity hacks. Yet for all our effort and the “smart” tools meant to guide us, many of us still lack the most important piece of the puzzle: a true understanding of what is happening inside our own bodies. That tension between doing everything “right” and still not knowing enough is what is pushing more people to rethink their approach to staying well. Preventive care, once quietly tucked behind annual physicals, is now part of a broader shift toward clarity, confidence, and early insight. I felt that shift personally long before I stepped into Humanaut, a healthoptimization clinic in Palm Beach Gardens. As a woman in my mid-40s with two schoolaged kids, a demanding work schedule, and a life that often blurs the line between structure and chaos, I have tried to stay proactive. A family history of cancer and dementia sits quietly in the back of my mind and reminds me to take long-term health seriously. Like many people my age, I have embraced a wide range of tools including HRT, GLP-1s, regular blood work, and even the full-body Prenuvo MRI. I take a blended Western-andEastern approach, exploring therapies that help me feel grounded and informed. But for all of that, I still lacked something foundational: a comprehensive baseline. A detailed, connected picture of where my health actually stood. That realization led me to Humanaut’s Advanced Health Check, a five-part evaluation that uses more than 275 biomarkers to create a nuanced, individualized portrait of your health. It covers metabolic function, hormone balance, cardiovascular fitness, inflammation, bone density, and muscle composition. The appointment began with extensive bloodwork, twelve vials testing everything from nutrient deficiencies to early inflammatory markers to signs of metabolic or cardiovascular strain. Then came a full DEXA scan that assessed bone health and the distribution of muscle and fat with medical-grade accuracy. The final step was the VO2Max test, a treadmill assessment that measures how efficiently your body uses oxygen. It is one of the most reliable indicators of longevity, resilience, and independence as we age. For something so scientific, the experience felt surprisingly personal. The team asked thoughtful questions about my lifestyle, habits, sleep, stress, and family history. It did not feel like they were collecting data. It

felt like they were collecting a story. Ten days later, that story came to life in my follow-up appointment. Johanna, my nurse practitioner, didn’t just review the numbers; she connected them. We talked through energy patterns I had brushed off, blood sugar dips that explained afternoon crashes, hormonal shifts affecting my focus and sleep, and a bone density reading that was better than expected given my family history. She also gave me clear and realistic next steps, including amino acids and the amount of daily protein my body truly needs, along with simple ways to make those changes doable in everyday life. It felt supportive, not overwhelming. In a wellness world that often leaves people guessing, Humanaut stands out for offering ongoing guidance, memberships, and concierge preventive care that grows with you. “These are often areas people assume are fine until the data shows otherwise,” says Nicole Doran, who brought Humanaut to Palm Beach Gardens. “The goal isn’t to scare anyone. It’s to empower them early, before small issues become larger ones.” One metric tends to land with particular impact: VO2Max. The number itself is not the point. It is what it reveals about how the heart, lungs, and muscles work together. “When VO2Max improves, people feel it,” Doran explains. “Better stamina, faster recovery, more consistent energy. It becomes a tangible marker of vitality.” Even with the sophistication of the testing, Humanaut remains rooted in something refreshingly human: continuity. You work with the same provider over time, revisit markers quarterly, and track progress without perfectionism. You anchor your choices, whether lifestyle adjustments or ongoing monitoring, in actual knowledge rather than instinct. “People want insight they can use,” Doran says. “Not just information, but guidance.” For me, pursuing a baseline was not about looking for problems. It was about expanding the possibilities ahead of me. It was about ensuring that the years I have left are not only long, but full—full of energy, clarity, movement, curiosity, and joy. Preventive care does not simply add years to life. It adds life to your years. And understanding your body now is what allows you to shape the years ahead with confidence. Knowledge becomes the invitation, the motivation, and the roadmap. It gives each of us the chance to stay strong, stay engaged, and stay fully alive in the moments that matter most.

Fresh Takes

SAVORY, SPIRITED, AND SWEET—WITH JUST ENOUGH INDULGENCE TO BEGIN THE YEAR RIGHT.

A Damn Good Reason to Indulge

Chef Julian Belon brings whimsical, multi-sensory desserts to Plaza Delray with the debut of Damn Good Sweets. In Plaza Delray, a new dessert haven is turning classic pastries into imaginative experiences that delight as much as they surprise. Damn Good Sweets, the newest concept from Damn Good Hospitality Group, proves the team famous for Revolution Live, Stache Drinking Den, Backyard Fort Lauderdale, and Warren Delray can bring just as much creativity to a bakeshop as they do to a bar. Led by award-winning Pastry Chef Julian Belon, Damn Good Sweets transforms familiar flavors through refined technique and whimsical flair. Chef Belon’s playful approach results in multisensory treats that blur the line between nostalgia and modern artistry. His menu reimagines sweets with unexpected twists, from elegant Petit Gateaux and theatrical Drip Cakes to handcrafted Floats and upgraded Ice Cream Sandwiches. Limited-edition specialties rotate in and out, ensuring dessert lovers always have something new to discover. The 1,500-square-foot shop, located just steps from Warren Delray, mirrors the imagination behind the menu. A charming outdoor patio

Open Tuesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Damn Good Sweets is more than a place to satisfy a craving. It is a dessert destination where nothing is quite what it seems and every bite delivers a delightful surprise. damngoodsweets.com

FLAVORFILES A Rosy Outlook

Rose Café brings bright flavors and effortless charm to every cup, plate, and moment.

Rum, Rhythm, and Ocean Drive

Michelle Bernstein debuts La Cañita Miami Beach, where CubanCaribbean food and live music take center stage. James Beard Award–winning chef Michelle Bernstein has opened La Cañita Miami Beach, a Cuban-Caribbean restaurant and rum-centric bar where island spirit meets Art Deco glamour. The new outpost brings the beloved energy of La Cañita—already a hit at Bayside Marketplace and Kendall—to the heart of South Beach. La Cañita, meaning “little sugarcane,” celebrates the plant at the center of Caribbean rum culture and the soulful cuisines shaped by it. Bernstein and partners David Martinez and Davide Borgia draw inspiration from Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and coastal Latin America, creating a dining experience rooted in warmth, rhythm, and heritage. “In Miami, the islands aren’t offshore, they’re in our hearts, our kitchens, our rum glasses,” says Bernstein. “Every meal is an invitation to feel at home.”

The menu is vibrant and generous, featuring empanadas, croquetas, conch fritters dusted with cayenne sugar, smoked wahoo dip, and Bernstein’s arroz con pollo a la plancha—her mother’s recipe. Caribbeaninspired mains include fresh local fish with coconut rice and squash, lechón asado with mojo de ajo, and tender stewed lamb. Lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch all offer dishes meant to be shared, savored, and paired with rum. The space feels like a reimagined island distillery—bright teal walls, mosaic tiles, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a stage for the house band, visible from indoors and the patio. Guests can enjoy more than 100 bottles of rum, an extensive mojito lineup, classic cocktails with Caribbean flair, and live Cuban music daily. La Cañita Miami Beach promises a vibrant new chapter on Ocean Drive—one filled with flavor, rhythm, and island soul. LaCanitaMiami.com

Long beloved for its Mediterranean-inspired café fare, Rose Café has blossomed into its next chapter as Rose Café & Restaurant, a full-service, all-day dining destination where clean cooking, coastal Italian flavors, and an unmistakably romantic ambience come together. Inspired by philanthropist Alexandra Milton’s travels and her love of European café culture, the space feels like a sunlit escape with pastel Art Deco interiors, Parisian touches, and an inviting indoor-outdoor flow that encourages lingering over a cappuccino, a cocktail, or a beautifully plated meal. Food remains at the heart of Rose Café’s evolution. Milton’s philosophy, “Food should be delicious without sacrificing well-being,” guides a menu built around fresh, bright, unprocessed ingredients and the mindful avoidance of refined oils. The result is Mediterranean-Italian cuisine that tastes indulgent yet feels restorative. Dinner brings a generous selection of antipasti and salads, such as a trio of house-made dips with warm focaccia and slow-steamed octopus served over golden hummus. Handmade pastas showcase both comfort and craft: Paccheri al Pomodoro e Stracciatella, Tagliatelle Bolognese, and Gnocchetti ai Frutti di Mare are early standouts. Main courses lean elegant and coastal with grilled langoustines, Dover sole for two, and a tender braised lamb shank paired with creamy polenta. Desserts, including house-made pastries and gelato, carry on the café’s sweetest traditions. A new bar program adds to the experience with wine, classic cocktails, and Rose Café’s signature feminine, bold, and delicate touch. More than a restaurant, Rose Café feels like a sanctuary, an escape rooted in beauty, nourishment, and the simple pleasure of a meal made with intention. rosecafeandrestaurant.com

Shore Thing, Italian Style

La Fuga pairs ocean-fresh flavor with oldworld Italian craft for a getaway served by the plate. Just a block from the sand and surf, La Fuga feels like the kind of Italian escape you stumble upon by luck and remember long after you’ve returned home. Its name means “the escape,” and that ethos shows up in every detail—from the handmade pastas to the breezy coastal dishes that blur the line between South Florida and the Italian seaside. “We didn’t invent all of these dishes, but we did perfect them,” the team likes to say, and it’s hard to argue once the plates start arriving. La Fuga draws its personality from Executive Chef Michael Mayer, a culinary leader whose passion for Italian cooking is rooted in both tradition and technique. To prepare for his role, he immersed himself in the recipes and methods passed down through generations, blending them with contemporary influences and the vibrant

66

ingredients of Florida’s coast. The result is a menu that honors Italy’s long shoreline while celebrating the freshness of local seafood—octopus grilled with pancetta and cracked olive salad, lobster fra diavolo brightened with Florida citrus, or a simple branzino paired with caponata and pine nuts. Mayer’s leadership extends beyond La Fuga; he also oversees all food and beverage outlets at Kimpton Shorebreak and the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, a role he has proudly held since 2016. His career began humbly as a short-order cook in the Midwest, but even then, he knew the kitchen would be his life’s work. At La Fuga, that journey comes together beautifully. It’s a neighborhood Italian restaurant at heart—warm, welcoming, and a little indulgent— where Nonna’s spirit meets coastal abundance. Whether you’re sipping a perfectly stirred Negroni or twirling house-made tagliatelle, this is the kind of escape worth savoring. lafugarestaurant.com

DR. CHRIS FREEMAN BOARD-CERTIFIED ORTHODONTIST FREEMAN ORTHODONTICS 1825 NE 45th Street, Suite B Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308 954-772-1600 FreemanOrtho.com What’s the biggest misconception patients have when they meet you for the first time? Many people believe that braces and aligners, including Invisalign™, work the same no matter where you go. But braces and aligners are only tools, much like a paintbrush in the hands of an artist. The outcome depends entirely on the skill and judgment of the doctor using them. Experience, training, treatment planning, and attention to detail determine whether a smile looks beautiful and functions properly for life. Orthodontics is not something you “get.” It is something that is done to you, and not all orthodontists have the same level of skill. I have owned my private practice for more than 20 years and am currently the longest-practicing orthodontist in Fort Lauderdale. With that experience, I can say with complete humility that becoming a great orthodontist is difficult. It requires understanding how teeth, bone, bite, and facial structure work together to create a healthy, long-lasting smile. That level of care simply cannot be achieved in highvolume corporate settings built around speed rather than precision. What distinguishes your practice from others? As a private practice, I am not restricted by corporate policies or production quotas. Every patient receives a customized treatment plan based on their goals, facial aesthetics, and long-term health. Early in my career, I focused on becoming the best clinician possible. Twenty years later, that foundation allows my team and me to focus just as much on how patients feel in our office. Our practice is built on honesty, compassion, and hospitality. Patients receive exceptional results, but they also feel genuinely cared for. Many even tell us they are sad when treatment ends because they enjoy their visits so much. Can you share an experience that reflects your practice philosophy? One example of our compassion and skill involved a teenager who came to me after recently completing orthodontic treatment locally, yet still had a severe bite issue. After listening carefully to what he wanted and applying decades of experience, we transformed his smile and facial balance. His mother cried with joy. Another example of our hospitality is when a team member personally delivered a patient’s retainers at a community event so he would not need to schedule an additional visit. These moments reflect excellent healthcare delivered with genuine care, and that is who we are.

BOARD CERTIFIED INTERNAL MEDICINE AND DIPLOMATE OF THE AMERICAN BOARD OF OBESITY MEDICINE 954-771-0611 1200 E. Broward Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 prestigeweightlossandwellness.com What makes your concierge medical practice exceptional in this community? My concierge practice offers what patients rarely experience in traditional medicine: time, access, and genuine connection. By limiting my patient panel, I am able to provide same-day appointments, extended visits, and a warm, attentive environment. It is a luxury-style approach to care designed around trust, comfort, and truly personalized attention. How do you prioritize preventive care and long-term wellness for your patients? I take a proactive approach that focuses on preventing illness rather than waiting for it to appear. Through advanced diagnostics, regular screenings, lifestyle guidance, and ongoing personal communication, I help patients understand their health on a deeper level. My goal is to keep them feeling vibrant, active, and well for as long as possible. How has your background shaped your approach to patient care? Growing up here, attending medical school locally, and completing my residency at Broward Health Medical Center gave me unparalleled connections within our medical community, resources that directly benefit my patients. After practicing Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine here since 2011, I have learned that health is influenced by more than diagnoses. Environment, lifestyle, stress, and emotional well-being all play a role, and I integrate each of these into my approach. What experience can patients expect, and how do additional services enhance their care? Patients can expect a calm, seamless experience with a physician who stays closely involved in their health. Alongside preventive and primary care, I offer medically supervised weight loss, peptide therapies, and metabolic optimization to support vitality, confidence, and longevity. What does serving your hometown mean to you? It’s deeply meaningful. Caring for the families who helped shape this community remains one of the greatest honors of my career. WESTON MEDICAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS 1605 Town Center Blvd., Ste. D, Weston, FL 33326 954-389-1800 | www.westondiet.com What excites you the most about recent developments in health care? What excites me most is the shift toward proactive and personalized medicine — moving away from treating disease only after it appears and instead focusing on optimizing health long before symptoms begin. The integration of longevity science, metabolic medicine, peptide therapy, and advanced diagnostic tools allows us to understand each patient at a much deeper level. We now have the ability to identify patterns, deficiencies, and risks early, and to create treatment plans that actually change the trajectory of someone’s health and aging. That is incredibly empowering for both patients and physicians. What do you find growing in popularity among your patients? Patients today are increasingly drawn to holistic longevity care. They’re asking about ways to increase energy, lose stubborn weight, balance hormones, improve sleep, and support brain health. I see a significant rise in interest in GLP-1 therapies, peptide protocols,

metabolic optimization, red-light therapy, molecular hydrogen therapy, and targeted supplementation. People don’t just want to live long; they want to feel strong, sharp, mobile, and independent as they age. That mindset is growing rapidly. What are the key differentiators of your offerings and services? Our practice combines traditional evidence-based medicine with the most advanced longevity and metabolic therapies available today. What truly sets us apart is a personalized approach. Every treatment plan is tailored through detailed evaluations, continuous follow-up, and a strong doctor–patient relationship. We also integrate technologies such as body composition analysis, peptide protocols, red-light therapy, hydrogen therapy, weightoptimization programs, and functional medicine testing under one roof. We’re small by design, which allows us to offer a high-touch, concierge-style experience with the warmth and continuity that larger practices often lack.

ROBERT CUCIN 915 Middle River Dr. #213, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304 Floridacentercosmetic.com | @Sfloridacenter What excites you most about recent developments in health care? We’re excited by how much safer and more personalized aesthetic surgery has become. Advances in implant technology, internal support techniques like mesh “internal bras,” refined fat transfer, improved anesthesia, and recovery protocols allow us to offer more natural results with less downtime. Patients today can choose treatments that truly fit their anatomy, lifestyle, and long-term goals.

What is the impact of AI on your practice and patient education? AI has become a powerful support tool for patient education and communication. From visual simulations to smarter content delivery, it helps patients better understand procedures and recovery expectations before ever stepping into the office. While surgery remains hands-on and deeply human, AI enhances transparency and informed decision-making.

What do you find growing in popularity among your clientele? We’re seeing a strong rise in patients seeking natural, refined outcomes rather than dramatic change. There’s also growing demand for combination treatments—pairing surgery with nonsurgical options—to optimize results while supporting recovery and longevity. Patients are increasingly focused on procedures that align with lifestyle, health, and sustainability, not just aesthetics.

What’s next on the horizon that gets you excited about health care? We’re energized by the continued integration of wellness, technology, and aesthetics. The future of health care is not just about treatment—it’s about empowerment, education, and long-term confidence. As innovation evolves, so does our responsibility to provide care that is ethical, individualized, and patient-first. LMGFL.COM | JANUARY 2025 73

World-Class Care, One Beat at a Time What excites you most about leading the Nicklaus Children’s Heart Institute together? Dr. Shyam K. Sathanandam: I’m inspired by the opportunity to create a program where innovation is built into every step of care. When families walk through our doors, especially those with premature or medically fragile infants, they should know there is no challenge too small or too complex for us to take on. Dr. David Kalfa: What excites me is shaping a future where children not only survive but thrive. The synergy between our expertise allows us to reinvent what surgical and interventional heart care can look like for the next generation. Can each of you share your background and what drew you to pediatric heart care? Dr. Sathanandam: I grew up in Chennai, India, and trained in pediatrics and advanced cardiology at institutions including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Very early on, I knew I wanted to work with the tiniest hearts, premature and low-weight babies who require precise and creative catheter-based interventions. Being able to fix a life-threatening heart defect through a tiny tube, often at the bedside in the NICU, is what keeps me pushing boundaries every day. Dr. Kalfa: My journey started in France, where I earned both my medical degree and a PhD in cardiovascular tissue engineering. I was drawn to surgery not only to save lives today but to discover how children can live better tomorrow. I’ve dedicated my career to the most complex neonatal heart surgeries and to designing valves that grow as a child grows so they can enjoy long, active lives with fewer operations. Where do you each see the future of pediatric cardiovascular innovation? Dr. Sathanandam: We’re entering a new era of catheter-based therapies. Interventional cardiac MRI, lymphatic interventions, and virtual and augmented-reality guidance are expanding what can be achieved without opening the chest. I’ve spent years developing procedures that can be performed right in the NICU, eliminating

74

high-risk transports for fragile infants. Those advances are only the beginning of what we plan to accomplish here. Dr. Kalfa: Surgery is also evolving rapidly. Robotics, artificial intelligence, and regenerative tissue engineering are allowing us to personalize operations, repair hearts more effectively, and even create new structures when nature has not. The future is about precision and durability, and we are bringing that future to every child we serve. How will your teamwork change the face of congenital heart care? Dr. Sathanandam: Historically, interventional and surgical programs sometimes worked in parallel. Here, we are building a single, unified vision: one team deciding together what is best for the child. When all options are on the table, innovation accelerates and outcomes improve. Dr. Kalfa: Exactly. Collaboration is how transformation happens. By combining Shyam’s expertise in catheter-based solutions with my experience in complex surgical repairs, we eliminate silos and open new pathways. Together, we aim to make Nicklaus Children’s a global destination where families know their child has access to the most cutting-edge care in one place. What is your shared mission as co-directors? Dr. Sathanandam: To ensure that every family, no matter where they come from or how complex the diagnosis, receives world-class, compassionate care close to home. Dr. Kalfa: And to measure success not only by survival statistics, although a 97.5 percent heart-surgery survival rate since 2018 places us among the nation’s best, but also in celebrating milestones: a first day of school, a birthday, a future made possible. What do you hope families feel when they meet you and your team? Dr. Sathanandam: Hope. Confidence. Relief. A sense that their child’s heart is in the very best hands. Dr. Kalfa: And that they are not alone. We are partners in every step of the journey. Together, we are committed to advancing care, advancing innovation, and advancing what is possible, one child, one family, and one heartbeat at a time.

I’m most inspired by the evolution of preventive and cosmetic dentistry—particularly digital workflows that allow us to diagnose, design, and deliver healthier, more confident smiles with incredible precision. Advances in 3D printing, AI-driven smile design, and minimally invasive materials mean patients can achieve life-changing results faster, safer, and more comfortably than ever before. What do you find growing in popularity among your clientele? Patients today are prioritizing natural, conservative aesthetics. They want beautiful results without aggressive tooth reduction, leading to a rise in minimal prep veneers, additive smile makeovers, guided implant surgery, and biomimetic restorations. Clients also want a luxury experience—longer consults, personalized care, and transparent education—so they can feel fully involved in their treatment. What are the key differentiators for your offerings and service? At All Smiles Dental, our differentiator is a boutique, technology-forward approach. Every treatment—veneers, implants, Invisalign, or full-mouth rehabilitation—is digitally planned, photographed, and mock-tested to ensure precision and predictability. I dedicate generous one-on-one time to understand each patient’s goals and design a result that looks natural, functions beautifully, and supports long-term oral health. What is the impact of AI for your business/practice and patient education? AI has transformed the way patients understand their smile. Using AI-powered smile simulations and digital scans, patients can preview potential results instantly, making education clearer and treatment planning more collaborative. AI also enhances diagnostics by identifying early issues that may not yet be visible to the eye—supporting a preventive, minimally invasive philosophy.

ALAN MENDELSOHN, M.D., F.A.C.S. EXPERT LASER CATARACT & LASER GLAUCOMA SURGEON EYE SURGEONS & CONSULTANTS 4651 Sheridan Street, Suite # 100, Hollywood, FL 33021 954-894-1500 | myeyesurgeons.com What was the most rewarding experience in your profession? I am a pioneer of five-minute laser cataract surgery and recognized by physicians as a preeminent expert in eye laser surgery. Laser cataract surgery provides far better visual results and safety compared to traditional cataract surgery. Cataract surgery previously was highly invasive whereby the patient had a shot to the eye, and a large incision closed with numerous sutures at the conclusion of the procedure. Now, a laser can perform 90% of the procedure flawlessly in about 30 seconds. From start to finish, this painless procedure takes only five minutes which includes implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL). There are no shots, no stitches, nor any patches! The patient can resume normal activities the very next day including driving, working, and exercising. I personally wore eyeglasses from age 6 until 56 years old, and contact lenses from age 13 until 56, when I had a colleague perform the 5-minute laser cataract surgery with implantation of a multifocal lens on my own eyes, one week apart. I have not worn glasses

nor contact lenses in the seven years since the July 2014 laser procedures. My quality of vision is outstanding for driving, viewing a computer, and reading, including all the focal lengths in between. There are a lot of health and wellness professionals in South Florida. What separates you and your practice from others in your field? For decades, South Florida physicians have called me “The physician’s physician.” I have had the honor and privilege to serve as the ophthalmologist to several hundred physicians (and their family members) in South Florida. The physicians in the area know which physicians have certain areas of expertise and utilize this inside knowledge to seek out the best of the best medical and surgical care for themselves and their family members. Additionally, I have physicians, including fellow ophthalmologists, come statewide to seek my care at Eye Surgeons & Consultants, especially for laser cataract surgery and laser glaucoma surgery. Technologies like the Luxora Platform with QuantumRF10 and Morpheus8 Burst, along with regenerative medicine and peptides, allow me to create personalized “Glow by Decade” roadmaps that elevate both internal wellness and external beauty. What do you find growing in popularity among your clientele? Clients increasingly want treatments that create structural, lasting change rather than temporary fixes. Regenerative therapies, collagen-stimulating devices, combination protocols, and full-face rejuvenation plans have become especially popular. My “Glow by Decade” maps are also in high demand—patients love clear, strategic plans tailored to their age and goals. Prevention, natural results, and advanced technologies like QuantumRF10 and Morpheus8 Burst continue to lead the way. What are the key differentiators for your offerings and service? I combine advanced technology with a boutique, VIP 1:1 luxury experience—my patients get my time, their space, no waiting, and deeply personalized care. Using my Glow by Decade system, I map long-term transformation with energy devices, injectables, and regenerative medicine for results that age beautifully. As the first in South Florida to offer the Luxora Platform with QuantumRF10 and Morpheus8 Burst, I deliver outcomes once limited to plastic surgery—wrapped in unmatched attentiveness and exclusivity.

LEADERS IN HEALTH CARE, BEAUTY & FITNESS

GORDON L. CHEN, MD

CO-FOUNDER AND CEO OF BLU BY THRIVEWELL™ BOARD-CERTIFIED CARDIOLOGIST 305-562-0317 | gchen@ThriveWell.com What excites you the most about recent developments in healthcare? Honestly, it’s the shift from “sick care” to true preventive, personalized care. We’re finally seeing medicine catch up to what people have always wanted: longer healthspan, not just lifespan.

What are the key differentiators for your offering and services? BLU by ThriveWell™ combines longevity medicine, precision diagnostics, recovery, fitness, coaching, and community under one roof. We integrate all of them into a single experience, so members have both medical oversight and regular accountability.

What do you find growing in popularity among your clientele? Members increasingly want data-driven insight: VO2 Max, resting metabolic rate (RMR), visceral fat, genetics, and continuous biometrics. They want to understand themselves and then have a coach and clinical team help turn those insights into action.

What is the impact of social media on client awareness and expectations? Social media has made people more aware, but also more confused. There’s a lot of noise. Our role is to cut through trends and misinformation and bring members back to evidence-based, sustainable health practices.

What is the impact of AI for your business/practice and patient education? AI helps us translate complex health data into clear, personalized guidance. It also helps our coaches and clinicians spot patterns earlier, tailor interventions, and educate members in a way that feels understandable and empowering.

What’s next on the horizon that gets you excited about healthcare? Continuous, real-time health monitoring paired with precision coaching. We’re moving toward a world where your daily habits, biomarkers, and medical insights are all connected — and a team supports you proactively, not reactively. That’s the future BLU by ThriveWell™ is building.

HOW COSMETIC SURGERY BECAME A DEFINING INDUSTRY IN SOUTH FLORIDA BY J O S E P H A . M A N N J R .

n South Florida, cosmetic surgery is no longer whispered about or confined to select circles. It has become part of everyday life—widely discussed, increasingly accessible, and deeply connected to a regional economy shaped by beauty, wellness, and medical tourism. Cosmetic and non-invasive procedures, not covered by insurance, represent a multibillion-dollar industry nationwide. South Florida captures an outsized share of that market, fueled by a dense concentration of skilled plastic surgeons and steady demand from patients traveling from across the United States and overseas. Industry-compiled rankings consistently place Miami at or near the top in the nation for plastic surgeons per capita—outpacing Los Angeles and New York—and often position Salt Lake City as the only other metro with comparable density. High procedure volume, driven by local residents, domestic medical travelers, and international visitors, has turned aesthetic surgery into a significant economic force for the region.

The Social Media Effect Cosmetic surgery has long existed alongside popular culture, but digital platforms have transformed how openly procedures are discussed and understood. What was once private or carefully concealed now circulates freely on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, shaping awareness well before patients ever step into a

92

JANUARY 2026 | LMGFL.COM

consultation. According to Dr. Pat Pazmiño, founder of Miami Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and a practicing plastic surgeon for more than two decades, “aesthetic surgery has grown because our appreciation of beauty has also expanded.” That shift, he explained, reflects broader changes in cultural ideals. “In the United States during the 1970s, very thin women were considered beautiful,” Dr. Pazmiño said. “This changed to a more athletic ideal in the 1980s, and in the 1990s and 2000s, curves were in. But every time our aesthetic ideal expanded, everything that had preceded it was still considered beautiful. [So] more women were considered beautiful. This was a very healthy change. Aesthetic surgery followed this as more women realized that they could be beautiful in their own shape.” At his Miami-based practice, Dr. Pazmiño focuses on abdominal contouring, breast rejuvenation and minimally invasive face rejuvenation, along with a range of non-surgical procedures. He also offers what he calls the UltraBBL Technique, described as a safe version

of the Brazilian Butt Lift he developed. About 65 percent of his patients are women and 35 percent are men. Social media has also reshaped how procedures are labeled and understood. Terms like the ponytail facelift—popularized online—reflect growing interest in subtle lifting techniques designed to deliver natural-looking results with discreet incision placement. High-profile conversations around surgical procedures have gone even further. Kris Jenner’s widely reported deep plane facelift, for example, has fueled patient curiosity about approaches that address deeper facial structures rather than tightening skin alone. Surgeons throughout the region report continued interest in high-definition liposuction, revision breast surgery and non-invasive technologies such as ultrasound skin tightening and body contouring, alongside rising expectations for education, safety and transparency.

A Growing Audience Nationwide, cosmetic surgical procedures totaled nearly 1.6 million in 2024, while minimally invasive treatments surpassed 28 million, according to the American Society of

Plastic Surgeons. South Florida plays an outsized role in that growth. Florida ranks among the states with the highest concentration of plastic surgeons per capita, based on National Institutes of Health–cited Google Trends research. While California has more surgeons overall, Florida’s population-adjusted concentration places South Florida among the most active aesthetic markets in the country. “South Florida has long had a strong reputation for excellent plastic surgeons,” said Dr. Yoav Barnavon, a Hollywood-based plastic surgeon and founder of Plastic Surgery Specialists of South Florida. That reputation, he explained, has been building for decades. “But the broad increase in American patients really began in the early to mid-2000s. Several factors contributed: greater public awareness of cosmetic procedures, the rise of minimally invasive treatments with shorter recovery times, and increased media coverage showing plastic surgery as a viable option for both men and women,” said Dr. Barnavon, who has been practicing plastic surgery for 33 years. Looking at the bigger picture, he added that “over the past 15 to 20 years, South Florida has become a major destination for Americans from across the country seeking high-quality care.” International patients also recognized those advantages early on, he noted, “particularly from Latin America, the Caribbean and even Europe,” who were drawn to “highly skilled, board-certified plastic surgeons with safe, accredited facilities.”

ahead, he expects continued growth driven by “younger and broader demographics, increased demand for minimally invasive treatments and international and out-of-area patient flows.”

At his practice, the strongest demand remains for breast augmentation, liposuction and facial procedures such as blepharoplasty, facelifts and rhinoplasty, alongside nonsurgical treatments. About 80 percent of his aesthetic patients are women and 20 percent are men.

Choosing Safe Care

Beauty as Business The economic footprint of cosmetic surgery extends far beyond operating rooms. Patients traveling to South Florida for procedures frequently remain in the region for recovery, supporting hotels, short-term rentals, licensed caregivers, pharmacies, transportation providers and follow-up medical visits. According to Dr. Pazmiño, “aesthetic surgery is a very big part of the South Florida economy.” Its impact reaches well beyond individual clinics, he added, “not just for the nurses, the caregivers, the hotels, the medical supply businesses, the pharmacies, the primary care doctors and everyone who works together to support these patients.” At the same time, assigning a precise dollar value to the industry remains difficult because, as Dr. Pazmiño noted, “there is no central database that collects the number of procedures or the costs paid by patients.” Looking

As demand continues to rise, both physicians, members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, stress the importance of patient education and careful provider selection. “The problem of non-licensed and non-physicians who perform aesthetic procedures has been catastrophic here in South Florida,” Dr. Pazmiño said, urging prospective patients to research credentials and hospital affiliations. Dr. Barnavon echoed that concern, noting that “there are many disreputable plastic surgery practices that employ non-plastic surgeons and provide substandard care.” Patients, he emphasized, “should be cautious and question the credentials of their potential surgeons. They should also ensure the surgical facility is properly accredited. Patient safety is a top priority in South Florida’s legitimate cosmetic surgery community.”

“AESTHETIC SURGERY HAS GROWN

BECAUSE OUR APPRECIATION OF BEAUTY HAS ALSO EXPANDED.”

AANew NewYear, Year,AANew New Way Wayto toCelebrate Celebrate AS DESTINATION TRAVEL RISES, COUPLES ARE TURNING MILESTONE MOMENTS INTO MEANINGFUL ESCAPES

104

JANUARY 2026 | LMGFL.COM

s the New Year ushers in fresh resolutions and long-imagined bucket-list adventures, celebrations are increasingly moving beyond familiar venues and closer to meaningful experiences. With destination travel on the rise, weddings and events are evolving into immersive journeys—carefully curated moments that feel as personal as the people they honor. “There is no shortage of things to celebrate,” says celebrity event and wedding designer Anna Noriega, founder of award-winning Alorè Event Firm. Rather than centering an event on a single day, Noriega encourages hosts to think holistically. “Focusing on how you can create an experience for yourselves and your guests will allow you to deliver an unforgettable day filled with endless memories for years to come.” For Noriega, the destination itself becomes part of the storytelling. She gravitates toward hidden gems that transport guests somewhere entirely new—places that feel intentional, intimate, and inspiring. Among her favorites is the Kimpton Roatán Resort & Spa, set on the pristine shores of West Bay Beach in Honduras. Perched along one of the world’s most celebrated reefs, the resort balances natural beauty with understated luxury. As Director of Sales & Marketing Stephanie Tablada explains, “Our resort provides a breathtaking backdrop that feels both inspiring and effortlessly serene—ideal for wedding celebrations, corporate retreats, and incentive programs alike.” While island escapes remain timeless, Noriega notes a growing interest in countryside settings as well. Mountains, farms, and pastoral retreats offer a different kind of allure—one rooted in landscape, texture, and tranquility. These destinations allow hosts to showcase the environment while offering guests the chance to slow down and connect. For those seeking an arrival that sets the tone before the celebration even begins, Little Palm Island offers true seclusion. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, the private island off Little Torch Key feels like a secret sanctuary. With lush interior pathways, tropical foliage, and bungalow suites—each with its own private beach— the resort delivers a deeply immersive experience defined by elevated service and unforgettable sunsets. Destination celebrations don’t have to be outdoors or tropical, however. Noriega encourages clients to expand their mindset when selecting a venue. Museums, art galleries, historic homes, or studios can offer just as much impact. “Shifting your mindset and attention to a unique destination allows you to create a more personalized event experience for both you and your guests,” she says. Confidence in choosing a place that reflects your vision is what ultimately brings an event to life—no matter how far from home it may be. Noriega believes that exceptional event design thrives without limits. “Amazing event design & planning doesn’t come with rules; it is in fact limited only by your imagination,” she says. That freedom begins with thoughtful planning.

Anna Noriega, founder of Alorè Event Firm Choosing a destination should align with both emotion and practicality. Hosts should focus on locations that speak to their aesthetic while considering guest needs such as accessibility, flight options, and travel requirements. Establishing a realistic budget early on—and allowing room for the unexpected—sets the foundation for a smoother planning process. Hiring experienced help is essential. Noriega emphasizes the importance of a capable planner who can manage logistics, vendor relationships, room blocks, transportation, and guest communication. A knowledgeable planner helps keep budgets on track, negotiates favorable options, and provides invaluable peace of mind—especially when coordinating events from afar. Clear communication with guests is equally critical. Centralized platforms such as event websites or private groups simplify sharing updates, itineraries, hotel details, and travel guidance. Streamlining information reduces stress for hosts while empowering guests to prepare confidently. Providing FAQs, packing guidance, and local tips ensures everyone arrives feeling informed and excited. Creativity is where destination events truly shine. Noriega encourages hosts to think outside the box—whether through themed tablescapes, native cuisine, unique views, or curated local experiences. Incorporating the essence of the destination allows guests to fully immerse themselves. Thoughtful touches, such as welcome bags filled with local goods and personalized notes, invite guests into the experience from the moment they arrive. Finally, documentation matters. With so many Instagram-worthy settings, a skilled photographer is essential. A great photographer allows hosts and guests to stay present—often supporting unplugged events—while ensuring memories are beautifully preserved. With the planning behind you, Noriega offers one final reminder: take it all in. Destination celebrations are as much about gratitude as they are about beauty—gratitude for the place, the experience, and the guests who traveled to share it with you. LMGFL.COM | JANUARY 2026 105
