There is a long history of agriculture and the hands that grow the food we eat. With migrant workers, the farming will be cultivated, harvested and grown for the community while also focusing on the fair treatment of all workers.

The program for this project revolves around the use of vertical farming and traditional farming to offer food to the community of Houston by supporting local restaurants. The food grown also helps to maintain the restaurant on site as well as the market that offers its food to the community. The food is transported with autonomous vehicles that use the highway as a main source of path which is located beside the site.

Through the cross elevation, the “traditional farming” element is integrated into the project and can be seen with the intention of providing food that is easily accessible for the community and any visitor or passerby. The fruit is served to attract people and create social spaces below the building structure.

The fruit also serves as a help in disguise for all of the homeless people as many unfortunate people tend to congregate beneath highways.

With the cross section, it can be observed the main source of transportation to and from the site. The METRO light rail crosses the span of the site and into greater Houston transporting the people of Houston. Underground, the autonomous vehicles pick up food and CO to then take it and distribute it to its designated destinations. Undergound can also be found vehicular parking.

UNDERGROUND & HIDING

Brady Island Recycling Center Houston, TX

The program for the site involves a Recycling Center, farming and a restaurant. The purpose of the farming is to self suffice for the restaurant on site to reduce any carbon emmissions needed to transport food for the restaurant. In order to increase the amount of food grown for the restaurant, the Recycling Center and restaurant were designed to be located under a layer of earth, therefore, maxing the amount of land to cultivate and grow. On site, water is collected to then be used for the recycling process of the Recycling Center.

With the east and west elevation, the greenery of the site and the long expanse can be seen where the food for the restaurant is grown.

ELEVATIONS

With the north and south elevations, the relation of the land to the water is seen.
