CELEBRATING 78 YEARS COMMITMENT TO THE FASTENER INDUSTRY FALL 2024

CELEBRATING FSTNR WEEK: A WEEK OF INDUSTRY ACHIEVEMENT AND CONNECTION

FSTNR Week unofficially kicked off on Saturday, August 17th, with the Rugged Nuts participating in the 5K Distillery Run x Take Flight Spirits. Around 20+ industry enthusiasts came together for the race and later enjoyed a group lunch at Moretti’s Restaurant in Skokie, IL. Since its start in 2021, this group has grown steadily, and they’re already looking forward to next year’s run.

The week officially began on Sunday, August 18th, with a Bed Build event in collaboration with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization dedicated to providing beds for children in need. More than 100 volunteers gathered at the Marriott Lincolnshire to construct 100 beds, working under perfect weather conditions. The day was made even more enjoyable with food trucks— Cheesie’s, sponsored by Brighton Best Int’l, and Kona Shaved Ice, sponsored by BTM Manufacturing—keeping everyone well-fed and refreshed.

On Monday, August 19th, participants had the opportunity to tour several companies, including Morgan Ohare, SWD Inc., Big Bolt

TURN TO PAGE 3

LLC, and XL Screw Corporation. These plant tours offered valuable insights into the industry, allowing guests to observe processes firsthand and deepen their knowledge of the fastener world.

This year, the Marriott Lincolnshire once again served as the central venue for events. After a full day of plant tours, industry professionals gathered at the Three Embers restaurant for the Welcome Mixer, a new addition to FSTNR Week that replaced the post-show gathering. This event was a fantastic way to reconnect with colleagues and gear up for the days of networking and activities ahead. »»

NOTE FROM THE OUR PRESIDENT

Jake

Happy Fall Y’all!

Over the years, the Fall has easily become my favorite season and it certainly helps when my Kansas City Royals are still playing playoff baseball games in October. It’s also a really special time for the Mid-West Fastener Association and I will get to those details in just a bit. Before we look ahead, I want to take just a moment of time to reflect on what was MWFA FSTNR Week 2024.

On behalf of our Executive Director, Francesca Lewis, and our entire Board of Directors, thank you all so much for your support of another successful FSTNR week. It is a true labor of love for all of us and we could not have been more pleased with the outcome. The week started off with our third Sleep In Heavenly Peace Bed Build ($30,000 raised and 100 beds built), followed up with plant tours and a jammed packed Welcome Mixer on Monday evening. Our signature table top event featured over 100 exhibitors and 400 plus people in attendance. The Fastener Bash that followed the show…let’s just say it was ”a bold move, Cotton.” Mother Nature cooperated all week long and we wrapped this year’s FSTNR week with over

140 golfers enjoying a beautiful day out on the course and away from the office. Once again, the support from all of our members means the world to all of us and we are already looking forward to making the next FSTNR Week bigger and better!

Now, I want to turn your attention to a very special evening that we have scheduled for November 7th.

It is my hope that all of you will to join us for the 2024 MWFA Hall of Fame Inductees, Scholarship Award Winners, and MWFA Board of Directors elections. This will be a memorable evening as we recognize these industry leaders and also celebrate the achievements of students receiving scholarships. The MWFA is preparing to award over $50,000 in scholarships, which will put our total over the past 40 years at just over $1 million dollars. Finally, we are very excited to welcome our guest speaker,

Joe O’Neil, from the Chicago Bulls. Joe has an amazing and inspiring story to share with all of us! You can register for this evening online at www.mwfa.net.

Finally, as the year winds down, I hope you will be able to attend our MWFA Holiday party on Thursday, December 12th. This is such a great time to come together as an industry and celebrate the past year as well as make an impact in the community. We will once again be collecting items for Toys for Tots!

As always, I wish you all continued success and I look forward to catching up with each of you at our planned events over the next couple of months. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your continued support of the MWFA!

God Bless,

CELEBRATING FSTNR WEEK

Tuesday, August 20th, was packed with highlights, starting with a four-hour Fastener Failure Seminar led by Sean Collis, Quality & Special Projects Manager at Michigan Metal Coatings, and Darlene Collis, Vice President of Quality at Lindfast Solutions Group (LSG). The seminar was informative for all levels of industry personnel, leaving attendees with valuable insights.

Before the show, the MWFA hosted an exhibitor lunch, setting the stage for an exciting day. Following the lunch, attendees were treated to a special event: Eric Dudas, the host of Fully Threaded Radio, led the Fastener Match Game. Inspired by the iconic 70’s game show, two contestants—Nick Penney of Vogelsang and Danielle Pawloski of Brighton

Best International—went head-to-head in a lively competition for the chance to win some amazing prizes.

The exhibit show opened that afternoon, with over 100 exhibitors showcasing a wide array of fastener products, industry services, software, and more. The show floor buzzed with activity as attendees engaged with exhibitors, who were pleased with the quality of interactions, particularly with decision-makers and new prospects. The day concluded with the “Game On! Fastener

Bash” the last hour of the show, allowing for continued networking in a lively, social setting. Attendees donned their favorite sports team gear, and South Paw, the Chicago White Sox mascot, added to the fun with giveaways. »» continued on page 4

CELEBRATING FSTNR WEEK

On Wednesday, August 21st, the 71st MWFA Golf Outing welcomed over 140 golfers for a day filled with perfect weather and friendly competition. The event featured more than 20 contests and exciting games, including the fan-favorite ball launcher. The day concluded with a dinner and awards ceremony, where participants’ achievements were celebrated. First place honors went to the CTI Global team: John Paris, Ron Jarvis, Rob Crowder, and Marc Goddard. The second place team included Bryan Wheeler of Star Stainless, AJ Gallo of Holo-Krome, Morgan Wilson of IFE, and Rob Reynolds of INxSql. The evening also featured a fun raffle, including a 50/50 pot, with plenty of prizes to cap off the celebration.

The Fastener Training Institute also played a key role in FSTNR Week, offering its Fastener Training Week program for those pursuing their Certified Fastener Specialist certificate. This intensive course culminated in a final exam, marking the end of a rigorous but rewarding week.

Thank you to all of our incredible sponsors, exhibitors, members, and guests

for making FSTNR Week a huge success! Your support, participation, and dedication helped create an unforgettable event. We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you, and we’re already looking forward to what next year will bring!
