With all that has happened this year, I find it hard to believe we are in October already. This year has really flown by and that’s probably a good thing for the most part. From the onset of COVID to murder hornets, social unrest and then sprinkle in a volatile election, I for one, am ready for this year to be over with. I truly hope that our country can find a way to work through

our differences and come together once again. One can hope. We have three events remaining this year. It has been decided that it would be in the best interests of all to have our Scholarship Dinner virtual this year. I am looking forward to our virtual Scholarship Awards Ceremony scheduled for November 5th. I hope you will join us in supporting this year’s scholarship winners to make this event even more special since we cannot meet in person. On November 12th, Agent K.C. Bixby of the FBI will do a virtual presentation on cyber security. Also, please keep your calendar open on December 17th for our annual Holiday Party. We have not yet determined whether this will be in person or online but either way we will be planning a
unique and memorable event. As always, please be sure to check out our website for the most current updates. I want to give a special shout out to our fabulous Director, Nancy Rich. This year has brought on a variety of challenges for our association and it has been an honor to work alongside Nancy. I just wanted to take a moment to thank her for all she does for our association and its members! At the end of the day, as long as our family and friends are doing well, the rest finds a way to work itself out. Wishing you and your families all the best for the remainder of this year. John was a sales manager at All America Threaded Products - Midwest Division in Indianapolis until his retirement in 2018. He was a friend to many in the industry who valued his industry expertise and kind demeanor. He had been in manufacturing management for 44 years, and his commitment and dedication to AATP was an integral part of our success and growth. We will miss you, John!

FINALLY A CHANCE TO SEE FASTENER FRIENDS! MWFA GOLF OUTING - OCTOBER 16TH The MWFA hosted an informal Golf Outing on October 16th to give members a chance to meet in an outside environment before the Chicago cold sets in. Although the weather may not have been perfect, all registrants showed up ready to see fastener friends and enjoy the day together. Jim Sullivan of Abbott Interfast was the lucky winner of the scholarship split the pot raffle. No contests, no winners, no losers, all fun! It was great to get out and see each other again, catch up and enjoy the fall day!

DON’T LET YOUR GUARD DOWN - STAY COVID-19 SAFE WHO SHOULD GET TESTED FOR COVID-19 »» People who have symptoms of COVID-19 »» People who have had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with someone with confirmed COVID-19 »» People who have been asked or referred to get testing by their healthcare provider, local health department or state health department. Not everyone needs to be tested. If you do get tested, you should self-quarantine/ isolate at home pending test results and follow the advice of your health care provider or a public health professional. COVID-19 is widely thought to spread mainly through the close contact from person-to-person. Some people without symptoms may be able to spread the virus. We are still learning about how the virus spreads and the severity of illness it causes. PERSON-TO-PERSON SPREAD The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person. »» Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). »» Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. »» These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. »» COVID-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms. THE VIRUS SPREADS EASILY BETWEEN PEOPLE How easily a virus spreads from personto-person can vary. Some viruses are highly contagious, like measles, while other viruses do not spread as easily. Another factor is whether the spread is sustained,
which means it goes from person-to-person without stopping. The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading very easily and sustainably between people. Information from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic suggests that this virus is spreading more efficiently than influenza, but not as efficiently as measles, which is highly contagious. In general, the more closely a person interacts with others and the longer that interaction, the higher the risk of COVID-19 spread. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about how this virus spreads. THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 BETWEEN ANIMALS AND PEOPLE »» At this time, the risk of COVID-19 spreading from animals to people is considered to be low. »» It appears that the virus that causes COVID-19 can spread from people to animals in some situations. CDC is aware of a small number of pets worldwide, including cats and dogs, reported to be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, mostly after close contact with people with COVID-19.

This is very important in preventing the spread of COVID-19. »» Wash your hands often with soap and water or hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. »» Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces. »» Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others. WILLIAM RENDACE William (Bill) Rendace passed away suddenly on August 7th. He is survived by his wife, Maureen and four children (Melissa, Megan, Jillian, and William). Bill grew up in Brooklyn, NY. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served his country for four years. He moved back home to NY in 1962. He joined the Fastener Industry in 1972, working for Dependable Fasteners in Port Washington, NY. Bill later started his own rep agency, William Rendace & Associates, Bolton Landing, NY, where he represented many fastener manufacturers including Anchor Bolt & Screw and for the last 21 years, Indux, which he represented until his passing. He also started/owned Network Rivet & Fastener, NY. Bill had many professions during his life, including being an inventor. Everyone that knew him was always interested in what he was currently involved in, which always seemed to succeed. Bill’s number one passion was always sales, he was a real people person, genuine, meticulously organized, and always well received throughout the country. He always said, “whatever you do in life, you have to be passionate to be successful”, he was true to his word and truly loved life. Bill made many lifelong friends in the Fastener Industry and had the personality that made it hard not to consider him a friend. Bill was a fixture at Fastener Conventions throughout his close to 50 years in the Fastener Industry. He will be deeply missed.
