CELEBRATING 79 YEARS COMMITMENT TO THE FASTENER INDUSTRY SUMMER 2025

FSTNR WEEK 2025: ONE DESTINATION, ENDLESS OPPORTUNITY

Get ready—the fastener industry’s most anticipated week is just around the corner! From August 24th through August 27th, 2025, the Midwest Fastener Association (MWFA) invites you to FSTNR Week: four days packed with industry innovation, training, networking, and fun—all in one location.

This year, everything happens under one roof marking our 3rd show at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort. With spacious meeting rooms, upscale guest accommodations, multiple dining options, pools, a spa, and even an on-site theater, the venue is built for both comfort and connection.

Sunday, August 24th - Giving Back to Start the Week Strong - We’ll kick things off with a special volunteer event in partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP). Join us in the north lot of the resort to help build beds for children in need—a meaningful way to launch a week focused on strengthening both community and industry.

Monday, August 25th - Behind-the-Scenes Industry Tours + Welcome Mixer - Explore leading fastener companies during our regional plant tours. This is a unique opportunity to see innovation in action across the Chicagoland area.

Later that evening, unwind and reconnect at the MWFA Welcome Mixer at the resort.

Tuesday, August 26th - Education, Exhibition & Entertainment - The day starts with industry presentations. Start your morning strong during Fastener Week with a complimentary buffet breakfast and two powerful presentations on Tuesday, August 26th at the Marriott Lincolnshire. Enjoy breakfast from 7:45–8:30 AM, ccourtesy of MWFA & IFI, followed by a keynote from Laurin Baker, IFI’s long-time advocate in Washington, D.C., who will share how the fastener industry organized to influence national policy and built a successful government affairs program. »»

NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Jill Lewis

Happy Summer from the MWFA!

We hope everyone is staying cool as we gear up for an exciting season. We’re thrilled to host our first-ever pickleball outing, along with a return trip to Milwaukee for a Brewers game—two fun opportunities to connect and unwind with fellow members. As we look ahead to FSTNR Week, the excitement continues. The unofficial kickoff is Saturday with the return of the Tough Mudder in Rockford. I was part of the original group, and I’m excited to be back with my favorite fastener people—join us or come cheer on the Tough Nutters! On Sunday, we begin the official week with our annual bed build in Lincolnshire, where we aim to construct 150 beds for children in need. You can make a difference by volunteering or sponsoring a bed.

Monday brings MWFA member plant tours at Davies Molding, Tri-Star Metals, and SWD—three outstanding companies

opening their doors for us. That evening, we’ll gather for the welcome mixer at the resort to kick off the week in style.

Tuesday is packed, starting with a timely and informative presentation by IFI and the Chicago Federal Reserve, followed by our 43rd Annual Fastener Show. Booths are completely sold out, and we’re expecting a great turnout, so don’t forget your superhero costume for the always-popular Fastener Bash!

On Wednesday, we wrap up with our 72nd Annual Golf Outing at Crane’s Landing—where the industry’s best golfers will compete for the top spot. Throughout the week, FTI will also be hosting Fastener Training Week for those looking to become Certified Fastener Specialists.

Later this year, we’ll come together for

our Annual Scholarship Dinner and MWFA Hall of Fame Inductions. We are honored to induct two incredible men who have made lasting impacts on our industry and on me personally—Wayne Wishnew, a supportive fellow board member and mentor, and Ross Shepard, whose legacy we proudly celebrate following his passing last year. Additionally, we’ll recognize Brighton-Best International in honor of their 100th anniversary—a remarkable milestone. Thank you to all who continue to support MWFA.

We look forward to an incredible summer and a meaningful close to the year.

2025 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES ANNOUNCED

HONORING DEDICATION, LEADERSHIP, AND LEGACY

The Mid-West Fastener Association is proud to announce its 2025 Hall of Fame inductees. Each of these honorees has made a profound and lasting impact on the fastener industry and our association. Their commitment, leadership, and service embody the values the MWFA stands for.

WAYNE WISHNEW began his fastener journey 47 years ago when he joined XL Screw in 1978, starting out in the warehouse. After a few injuries and some sage advice from MWFA Hall of Famer Bob Sachs, Wayne transitioned into inventory control—and quickly became an invaluable asset to the company. Over the years, he moved into sales and eventually became Vice President. According to Sachs, Wayne treats every customer like he owns the company. When customers have a need, they don’t call XL Screw—they call Wayne. His rapport, professionalism, and dedication are unmatched, and his loyalty to both XL Screw and the MWFA is unwavering. Wayne was nominated to the CBNSA 18 years ago and played an active role in its transition into the MWFA. Until recently,

he served on the MWFA board, where his wit and insight are deeply missed. Over the years, he’s served as President, Vice President, and on nearly every committee. He spent 14 years on the scholarship committee, generously donating his time and energy to the association. XL Screw, under Wayne’s influence, has been one of MWFA’s most philanthropic supporters, offering countless sponsorships and scholarship donations. Wayne has long championed the MWFA in the marketplace, encouraging participation in educational seminars, shows, and events. His tireless efforts, humble leadership, and genuine passion make him a worthy and deeply respected member of the Hall of Fame.

ROSS SHEPARD is being honored posthumously for his significant and heartfelt contributions to both Alfa Tools and the MWFA. Ross spent 32 years with Alfa Tools, beginning in 1995 and continuing until his retirement in 2022. Hired originally as a salesman, he was later promoted to Sales Manager and quickly became known for his unmatched communication skills and his ability to connect with anyone in the room. According to Alfa Tools Vice President Shaan

Ahluwalia, Ross had a rare talent for public speaking and was the kind of person who could build meaningful relationships with people across all levels of the industry. He worked tirelessly and always kept Alfa Tools closely engaged with MWFA activities and events.

Ross represented Alfa Tools at every MWFA Fastener Show, playing a direct role in helping grow the company’s presence and building new business through those connections. He served on the MWFA board for nine years, including a term as Secretary, and contributed to multiple committees during his tenure. Even after his retirement, Ross remained a familiar and welcome face at MWFA’s holiday events, continuing to show support for the association he held dear. He passed away in 2024, and at his funeral, his family and friends remembered him for his quick wit, sarcasm, and ability to make others laugh—qualities that made him equally beloved in business and in life. Ross Shepard was a special asset to the MWFA, and his posthumous induction into the Hall of Fame ensures his memory and legacy will live on. »»
