DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE CHRIS SMITH Acting Director, Grapevine Parks and Recreation ChrisS@grapevinetexas.gov

Hello! Welcome to our Summer 2022 Go Grapevine Magazine. I hope you and your families are doing well. Like most of you, I am looking forward to warmer weather and more opportunities to enjoy and explore our amazing parks. First, I want to thank all of you, the community, for your continued support. From REC members to volunteers, from event attendees to campers, and everyone in between – you make it possible for us to do what we do. It is fitting that this year is the 50th Anniversary for Grapevine Parks and Recreation. Our department was established in 1972, and over the years we have had significant growth and many achievements. During the year we will be sharing fun facts about the department, past vs. present, pictures,

and highlighting some milestones. We are honored to be celebrating 50 years of service and building relationships with the community. We started this year off with a successful award season. Grapevine Parks and Recreation received four awards at the 2022 Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) Institute. We also celebrated our very own Trent Kelley, Recreation Manager, being inducted as the TRAPS President. This is a great achievement and I know that Trent will do an amazing job! Also exciting – our Prehistoric Park returned to Meadowmere Park this past spring. Thousands of people came from near and far to explore the newly expanded exhibition of dinosaurs. Additionally, we continue to move forward with the development of Panhandle Park, and

can’t wait for families to be able to visit, play and enjoy. We are working hard to continue to provide a fun, engaging, and safe environment for everyone. With plenty to look forward to this year, our team is prepared to bring our residents great events and experiences. This edition has all the information you need to register for all the programs we have to offer. Don’t forget to visit us at GoGrapevine.com for additional details and follow us on social media @GoGrapevine to stay connected.

SEE YOU ON THE TRAILS,
