ACTING TODAY TO PRESERVE TOMORROW.

“Though the word beautification makes the concept sound merely cosmetic, it involves much more: clean water, clean air, clean roadsides, safe waste disposal, and preservation of valued old landmarks as well as great parks and wilderness areas. To me . . . beautification means our total concern for the physical and human quality we pass on to our children and the future.” —Lady Bird Johnson

PARKS FOR POLLINATORS BIOBLITZ Keep Grapevine Beautiful (KGVB) is a non–profit organization whose mission is to preserve and enhance the local natural environment by strengthening citizen’s levels of commitment through educational programs and engaging volunteer–based projects. VOLUNTEERING

Join us as we engage experts on various topics to help us understand the importance of the environment and the outdoors.

DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT’S ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS

Did you know that DFW Airport is the second largest airport in the U.S., with over 62 million visitors a year? These travelers create tons of trash, but the airport is proactive in recycling and reducing waste. Come learn how the food waste diversion program is progressing, about sustainability goals and the protection of air and water quality. Date: Wednesday, September 28 Location: The REC of Grapevine, Stewart Hall Time: 7:00 – 8:00 pm Fee: Free

THE STATE OF RECYCLING

Has the local rate of recycling improved? How has the nation adapted to China’s ban on some plastic imports? Republic Services Municipal Services Manager Jeri Harwell will provide answers, and discuss what is truly recyclable and the most recent news of the industry. Date: Wednesday, October 26 Location: The REC of Grapevine, Stewart Hall Time: 7:00 – 8:00 pm Fee: Free

ADOPT-AN-AREA PROGRAM

Do you have a trail, park, or street near your home or office that would benefit from some extra attention and care? This impactful program allows individuals, families, community groups, and businesses to take an active role in keeping our community litter-free and beautiful. “Adopters” agree to conduct at least six cleanups in their area in a calendar year. Contact Cindy Harris at CHarris@grapevinetexas.gov to learn more.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful is excited to collaborate with Sam Pack’s Five Star Subaru-Grapevine by providing resources for community projects that enhance our mission and aligns with our three core program areas: beautification, litter prevention, and waste reduction. Businesses, schools, and organizations are invited to apply for grant funding. The application window opens September 5. Email Cindy Harris at CHarris@grapevinetexas.gov with questions.

MusikGarten is a Montessori-based curriculum. We get music into our bodies by singing, moving, playing instruments, and exploring nature and cultures. Our rhythm and tonal patterns (aural approach) lead to piano keyboard playing, by ear, and by reading notation. Benefits for children and adults include brain focus, body coordination, social interaction, wonder, and fascination. We develop the whole musician to express our skills joyfully! *Grown-ups join the last 10 minutes of class. Dates: September 5 – December 17

Babies & Toddlers: We are attuning to the baby’s sensory experiences: sound textures, bouncing, rocking, and massaging. We go BIG with facial and vocal expressions. Once the baby is walking, we are following and guiding them with a song/chant/poem or dance: finger play, body awareness, anticipation, laughter! Cycle of Seasons: We focus on moving, pretending, and talking/singing about it! We can even do some focused listening, to connect music vocabulary to words in our world. Half structure, half improvisational freedom — 100% imagination! Music Makers 1: This is the last year before kindergarten, so children can attend independently if they are ready. We focus on teamwork, motor coordination, and writing and reading symbolic music notation. The styles we explore include themes of family, animals, and habitats. Music Makers 2: School-age children connect sounds we hear to corresponding musical symbols. We continue to drum, sing, and strengthen our precision, preparing fingers for piano. We play steady beats and patterns on strange new cultural percussion, experiencing contrasting styles. Piano 1: We learn the “secret recipe” to play the pitch and rhythm patterns in songs, then put them together. Our finger muscles practice smooth, fluid touches on piano keys: loud/ soft, short/long, high/low, and fast/slow. We improvise and analyze the “Big 3” chords in most music, enjoying how harmonies support a melody. Adult Piano: Whether we took piano as a kid or start from scratch, MusikGarten grown-ups find we can gain more skill than we thought, and sound better every week, with the support of fellow students. We learn the same patterns as the children but at our own pace with potentially more improvising, composing, and listening. Our repertoire includes folk, classical, blues, and rock styles.

ACTING FOR FILM

Acting is acting, but different mediums require different skill sets. In this class, you will learn how to be believable and real in front of the camera. Students will also work on listening, reacting, being affected, using inner monologue, and expanding the student’s cold-reading skills. In our current world where so much is still happening by self-tape, this class will be invaluable and necessary for the serious actor.

Students will learn the basics of improv, storytelling, and stagecraft, mostly through playing skilled theater games— because you learn better when you are having fun! Students will participate in an improv show for family and friends on the last day of class to show off all their newly developed skills! Day: Thursdays Location: The Vine Arts & Event Center Time: 6:30 – 7:30 pm Ages: 8+ years Fee: $65

BROADWAY & BEYOND

Do you love to sing and perform? You’ll have a great time rehearsing and performing in one of our beginning musical theatre classes! Day: Tuesdays Location: The Vine Arts & Event Center Time: 4:30 – 5:30 pm (ages 3 – 5); 5:30 – 6:30 pm (ages 6 – 10) Ages: 3 – 5 and 6 – 10 years old Fee: $65

Multi-class discounts are available.

Each student will have a “mock” audition with a panel of adjudicators that will give them personal feedback. Day: Tuesdays Location: The Vine Arts & Event Center Time: 4:30 – 5:30 pm (ages 8 – 12); 5:30 – 6:30 pm (ages 13+ years) Ages: 8 – 12 and 13+ years Fee: $65
