Welcome to our Fall 2022 Go Grapevine Magazine. I hope you and your family are doing well and that you had a great summer filled with activities, events, and quality time spent together at our parks and facilities. As we transition to a season of cooler weather, I hope you are able to take advantage of even more opportunities to enjoy all that Grapevine Parks and Recreation has to o er. First, I want to thank all of you, the community, for your continued support. From REC members to volunteers, from event attendees to campers, and everyone in between – you make it possible for us to do what we do. Our summer season consisted of many highlights from the installation of the new Jones Branch Park at the corner of Dove Road and Panhandle Drive, to successful camps at The REC and Dove Creek Day Camp, to an outstanding 4th of July holiday filled with friends and families gathering at lake parks to watch the famous Grapevine Lake firework display in honor of Independence Day. It was truly a summer to remember. In addition to a successful season of camps, tournaments, and full lake parks, we also had a season of recognition for outstanding e orts. Grapevine Parks and Recreation’s volunteer organization, Keep Grapevine Beautiful, received the Governor’s Community Achievement Award for Category 7 in the amount of $250,000.  These funds are allocated for landscape enhancements within TxDOT right-of-ways.  Keep Grapevine Beautiful was also recognized as a Gold Star A iliate, the highest level of Asaccomplishment.summercomes to a close, we are excited about all of the amazing opportunities that we have to o er to you and your families for the fall season.

HAVE A HAPPY FALL, CHRIS SMITH Director, Grapevine Parks and Recreation ChrisS@grapevinetexas.gov

“Though the word beautification makes the concept sound merely cosmetic, it involves much more: clean water, clean air, clean roadsides, safe waste disposal, and preservation of valued old landmarks as well as great parks and wilderness areas. To me . . . beautification means our total concern for the physical and human quality we pass on to our children and the future.”

Cycle of Seasons: We focus on moving, pretending, and talking/singing about it! We can even do some focused listening, to connect music vocabulary to words in our world. Half structure, half improvisational freedom — 100% imagination!

1: This is the last year before kindergarten, so children can attend independently if they are ready. We focus on teamwork, motor coordination, and writing and reading symbolic music notation. The styles we explore include themes of family, animals, and habitats.

Music Makers

Music Makers

Piano 1: We learn the “secret recipe” to play the pitch and rhythm patterns in songs, then put them together. Our finger muscles practice smooth, fluid touches on piano keys: loud/ soft, short/long, high/low, and fast/slow. We improvise and analyze the “Big 3” chords in most music, enjoying how harmonies support a melody.

Adult Piano: Whether we took piano as a kid or start from scratch, MusikGarten grown-ups find we can gain more skill than we thought, and sound better every week, with the support of fellow students. We learn the same patterns as the children but at our own pace with potentially more improvising, composing, and listening. Our repertoire includes folk, classical, blues, and rock styles.

Our rhythm and tonal patterns (aural approach) lead to piano keyboard playing, by ear, and by reading notation. Benefits for children and adults include brain focus, body coordination, social interaction, wonder, and fascination. We develop the whole musician to express our skills joyfully! *Grown-ups join the last 10 minutes of class. Dates: September 5 – December 17

2: School-age children connect sounds we hear to corresponding musical symbols. We continue to drum, sing, and strengthen our precision, preparing fingers for piano. We play steady beats and patterns on strange new cultural percussion, experiencing contrasting styles.

Babies & Toddlers: We are attuning to the baby’s sensory experiences: sound textures, bouncing, rocking, and massaging. We go BIG with facial and vocal expressions. Once the baby is walking, we are following and guiding them with a song/chant/poem or dance: finger play, body awareness, anticipation, laughter!
