Windows Fundamentals: An lntroduction to Learninq How to Use the Computer

Length: Six Sessions

Max 12 Students

When: Tu-Th-Fri, Aug 13, 15, 16 and Tu-Th-Fri, Aug 20,22,23,202412:30-3:30pm

lnstructor: Pam Price, assisted by Stevie Dwyer, JoAnn Heinen

Pre-Req: To attend this class, ALL students must have access to their OWN computers. Students should have competent keyboardinq skills to get the most out of this class. lf a student needs to improve his own typing skills, he can search ONLINE for Kevboardinq Tutorials to ensure his success in the class. (Tutorials are "Practice Exercises" that are self-taught. They are free to download.)

Students will learn beginning word processing skills, creating files and folders, and developing small and large motor skills (helpful with the mouse). The class will use Windows 10 to learn the standard features of a Windows PC. The goal of this class is to help the student be successful and have fun with his computer.

Android Phone: How to use

Length: Two sessions

Max 6 Students

Pre-Req: Must have an Android phone, Samsung preferably. Please bring your fully-charged Android phone to class. Must have a Google/Gmail address and know your password.

This training is limited to 6 participants. ln this class. The student will learn how to adjust change various settings. The student's phone will be set up to sync [backup], contacts, photos, and apps. The student will be introduced to using the Google calendar, set up contacts, email, and photos. Google Chrome will be used on a computer to see what is on the student's phone.

Apple Watch Basics

Length: One Session

Max: 6 Students

Pre-Req: Apple Watch must be Series 5 (2019) or newer. You must bring a fully charged iPhone and Apple Watch to class.

"You may have an Apple Watch on your wrist, but do you know att the cool things it can do?" The student will learn how to get the most out of his Apple Watches, from tracking his heart rate, to finding a misplaced phone, to keeping connected with everything he cares about.

Excel: lntroduction

Length: One Session

Max: 12 Students

When: Tues, Sep 10, 2024 9:00am-12:00pm

lnstructor: Laura Jesberg

Pre-Req: Requires successful completion of Windows Fundamentats as well as proficiency using a Windows computer.

Excel is a Microsoft spreadsheet program that enables users to format, organize and calculate data in a spreadsheet. ln this class, the student will be introduced to spreadsheets and basic data functions of Excel for home use and learn how to use formulas, create multiple spreadsheets, and to sort data.

Explorinq Virtual Field Trips

Length: Two sessions

Max 12 students

When: Wed, Aug 21 ,2024 9:00am-12:30pm

lnstructor: Darrell Brown

The student will learn the basic skills of exploring sites in the United States and around the world. Students will be shown how to find wonderful virtual field trips and learn how to navigate the websites to enjoy allthe pictures and videos of Earth's beautiful places. Come join us as we visit museums and our National Parks. Basic troubleshooting of these interactive sites will be demonstrated to ensure full enjoyment of these beautiful online experiences.

Facebook: Basics and Securitv

Length: One Session

Pre-Req: The student needs to create an account prior to the class. This class is designed to discuss Facebook security as well as give a basic introduction to Facebook. Some of the topics: creating a post and posting, adding and deleting friends, uploading pictures from your device, going live, understanding groups, and tips and tricks to have a fun and safe environment.

Google Chrome

Length: One Session

Google Chrome is a fast, easy to use, and secure web browser that works across all platforms and devices. Chrome brings the student personalized news articles, quick links to his favorite sites, downloads, and Google Search and Google Translate built-in. Let me show all of the free apps you can get with Google Chrome.

Gooqle Photos

Length: One Session

Max 12 Students

When: Wed, Sep 11,2024 9:00am-12:00pm

lnstructor: Roger Jones

Pre-Req: Must bring a phone or tablet to class, fully charged, with Google Photos loaded. Also, bring your Google/Gmail login and password. The student will learn how to use the photo editing tools built into Google Photos which includes cropping, filters, adding graphics, and sharing the results. The student will learn how to view and download photos to a computer.

iPhone: How to use

Length: One session (offered TWO separate times)

Max 6 Students

When: Session 1: Mon, Aug 19,2024 9am-12pm

Session 2: Mon, Aug 26, 2024 9am-12pm

lnstructor: Beverly Savage

Pre-Req: Must have an iPhone 10 or newer, know how to make and answer phone calls, and listen to voice messages. Please bring your fully-charged iPhone and your charging cord. This training is limited to 6 participants and requires no computer experience. ln this class, students will learn how to adjust the sound and change a few other important settings, including a discussion about backing up your iPhone and the importance and value of having an iCloud account. Students will be provided tips about using the iPhone features and adding to Favorites as well as be given recommendations about entering Contacts. Some texting tips, a variety of ways to use Siri, and more will be introduced.

Pre-Req: Having iPhone 12 or later is preferred. Please bring your fully-charged iPhone and your charging cord to maximize the benefits of the class. This class will introduce the power of the phone camera to take and edit still photos and create interesting videos. Covered topics will include. the differences between Photo, Portrait, and Pano modes; the differences between Video, Cinematic, Slo-mo, and Time Lapse modes; When to use the various modes; Settings available in the various modes; and Edits available to improve photos.

Although the class is aimed at users of iPhones of versions 12 and later, other iPhone users and other brands of phones can benefit from understanding the modes, functions and concepts that will be discussed. All content may not apply to non-iPhones and questions may not be answerable for these other products.

Shutterfly : On-line Scrapbooking

Shutterfly is an online website that allows the student not only to store photos for free but also to print photos on a multitude of surfaces: scrapbooks, cards, stationery, calendars, personalized gifts, home decor, and more. This class will teach the student to create a scrapbook. These skills learned in class can be personalized to create many other cool products.

Stop Taking Snapshots and Start Creating lmages

Utilizing the principles and elements of design, photographers using any camera can dramatically improve their results by understanding what makes a scene interesting. Topics covered include the rule of thirds, framing, lines and angles, repeating patterns, and much more. Examples of the compositional elements discussed will be presented for understanding and discussion.

Pre-req: Television with internet access at home

The student will learn how to stream on the internet and why. Different options discussing internet providers, services, with options to use smart TV, fire stick or Roku devices.

Pre-Req: Requires successful completion of Windows Fundamentals. To attend this class, ALL students must have access to their OWN computer and have Microsoft Word installed on their computer. (Check to learn what Microsoft Word program is on the computer to be used - MS Word 365 or one of the other MS Word versions such as 2016 or later.) The student must have a Word Processing Program on his computer to take this class.

This class uses Microsoft Word 2016 to help students increase their word processing skills in the following areas: formatting, editing, creating tables and labels, using mail merge, and working with graphics. Students who have completed Windows Fundamentals and want to expand their knowledge of Word Processing will continue to develop those skills using Microsoft Word.
