WELCOME TO STONELEIGH WELCOME to the world’s largest kit car show! Stoneleigh offers you a unique opportunity to see more kit cars in one place than at any other event on the planet. For manufacturers, this is the place to launch a new model, and 2014 will yet again witness several new cars getting their first public unveiling. Among them, make sure you have a look out for the Bertini GT25, RoadRunner Racing LM1, Ribble Silverstone, FRS Arrow and Tribute Kobra. Elsewhere in the main halls you’ll find many other companies revealing brand new demonstrators which often incorporate the updates and improvements they’ve been working on during the winter months. Also inside Stoneleigh’s extensive exhibition hall complex you’ll find hundreds of accessory stands, selling everything the car builder could want. Whether it’s a nut and bolt or a complete performance engine, you’re bound to be able to find it here. But if you don’t fancy building your own from scratch, then take a walk into the Cars For Sale hall (at the bottom of 6th Street, near Gate 5) where you’ll find a diverse array of cars up for sale, with prices to suit every pocket. Could this be your introduction to kit car ownership? Head outside and you’ll find the vast Stoneleigh complex dominated by privately owned kit cars displayed on almost 100 different club stands. It’s this extraordinary spectacle that gives Stoneleigh its special atmosphere. Outside you’ll also find lots more accessory stands (just outside the main halls) and Westfield Sports Cars will be putting on an amazing slalom experience in a dedicated area just off Avenue M. You can even book yourself a place in the passenger seat for a small fee, as the company’s hugely experienced test drivers put the cars through their paces. For rather muddier action, Dakar will be in full swing on the 4-wheel drive circuit. Once again, there are rides on offer here and with four seats, the whole family can enjoy a great experience. Finally, for those of you who make Stoneleigh a weekend experience, the bars and restaurant will be open on both evenings. On Sunday evening, our magazine sponsor, Complete Kit Car, will host a live

ROADRUNNER RACING LAUNCES NEW LM1 Although primarily aimed at track day use, RoadRunner Racing’s new LM1 has also been specifically designed to meet current IVA regulations that will also allow it to be used on public roads. The demonstrator features a GSXR1300 superbike engine with its 6-speed

sequential gearbox. With its single seat, central driving position, the LM1 promises a public road driving experience like no other!

ENIGMA The Healy Enigma is meticulously detailed and, with its Mazda MX-5 single donor, should be an affordable project. Although at the show last year, here’s a rare chance to see this top quality kit package.

NEW TRIBUTE Tribute Automotive specialises in panel kits over existing productions cars, and that means no regulatory hoops to jump through, such as IVA. Latest car to be revealed is the new Tribute Kobra. The styling is likely to be familiar, but the BMW Z3 base vehicle will almost certainly be more of a surprise. While not a replica in the strictest sense, this interesting and simple body conversion will be making its debut at the show.

FRS ARROW Aimed primarily at the competition market, it’s hoped that the new mid-engined FRS Arrow will eventually have its own onemake race series under the wings of the 750 Motor Club. However, the car will also be eligible for a number of other existing series, in particular the Sports Specials Championship. And it’s on the 750MC’s stand where you can get a first glimpse of this new car. A De Dion rear suspension layout with double wishbone front end has been designed without the compromises required to make a compliant road car. The new car will be availble in a kit form, with a comprehensive kit price of £12,000, leaving the customer to source nuts, bolts, rivets and donor parts from a Ford Fiesta. WHERE TO FIND THEM

STONELEIGH NEWS NEW CAR LAUNCHES BMW Z3 BASE FOR BERTINI GT25 It seems the BMW Z3 is becoming increasingly popular as the base for today’s modern panel kits. Bertini is the latest to make use of the accomplished roadster, in this instance underneath new exotic bodywork that doesn’t try to replicate anything, but rests on its own merits. The new GT25 is certainly one of the most eagerly awaited new cars at the show, so make sure you don’t miss it in Hall 1.

RIBBLE SILVERSTONE LAUNCHED Ribble Kits will be launching its all-new Ribble Silverstone at Stoneleigh. The new car is primarily aimed at track day usage and

features the mechanical components salvaged from an MG Midget. As such, we expect the pretty Silverstone to have a period charm that befits its old-school styling. One we are looking forward to seeing.

The Elite Motorsport Pulse made its official debut at last year’s Stoneleigh show, and the company has returned to the event to release a new variant of the sevenesque Pulse which will help to bring the cost down. The standard car (which remains available) is a highly track focused machine with fully rose-jointed suspension and a top specification throughout. The new variation seen at the show will feature more conventional poly-bushed suspension components and other developments that will not only make the car more suited to road use, but also trim the construction costs.

CHESIL UPDATED If you like the idea of a Porsche Speedster (who doesn’t?) but not the old Beetle engine most commonly used, then Chesil Motor Company’s use of a new 1.4-litre Polo engine in its place will be good news.

The E36/E46 was produced between 1991 and 2006, so affordable spares backup is enormous, and the Legend fits any four-cylinder or silky straight six petrol engine. Ultimate performance is from the 321bhp M3 engine and 6-speed box! The front engine/rear drive layout isn’t the only reason the BMW makes sense. Suitable donors can cost as little as £200, and the part quality is high. A Legend build is very affordable. It’s possible to assemble one for as little as £7000. With a standard roll bar, the Legend has the option of full weather gear. Adding a full bolt-down roll cage, the Legend becomes suited to track days, hillclimbs and sprints

The NMS guys have a wealth of experience in all aspects of their business so for a no nonsense, no bull answer to your chassis and engine tuning questions you could do worse by not speaking to them first. Along with the hard-core competition cars displayed, we will be displaying a range of Westfield road cars. This display will contain a range of Westfields which reflect the main models of the marque’s production from inception to the current day. Their enthusiastic owners will be on hand to chat, kick tyres and talk you through the prospective owner’s age-old question “What is best for me, factory-built, self-built or pre-owned?” and take you through the benefits of joining the Westfield Sports Car Club. Outdoors on block 53 we will host the biggest selection of Westfields likely to be seen in any one place at the same time. In previous years we have managed to display in excess of 250 Westfields each day so there is bound to be something that takes
