Goderich is Canada’s Prettiest Town

Our downtown shopping district is an original and exciting place to be, as regrowth and rebuilding is taking place on every block. See first-hand the regeneration of the commercial district and stop into our one-of-a-kind stores, eat, and drink in our restaurants, and avail yourself of our many amenities. Of course, Goderich is most famous for its sunsets – known as the place where the sun sets twice. Bid farewell to a day well spent at the water’s edge before making your way up the bluffs to see the sun once again dip beyond the furthest reaches of the horizon. During the summer months, the haunting drone of the bagpipes provides the soundtrack to the setting sun, drawing hundreds to the blending of rich tradition and natural beauty. Explorers, young and old, can immerse themselves in the bountiful nature surrounding the town year-round. The pristine Carolinian forest trails of the Maitland Woods to the south or the sprawling Menesetung Trail and bridge of the same name, which is a labour of love for the volunteer association that maintains the structure and trails are there for explorers. Kilometres of natural, sandy beaches provide the perfect outing for families packing a picnic by the waterside or couples looking to steal a few moments away from the world, between sun, sand, and sky. While at the water, be sure to take a stroll down to the pier and watch the huge ships roll in to load salt and grain at the only deep-sea level harbour on the Canadian side of Lake Huron. For health and fitness, look no further than the town’s Maitland Recreation Centre – a state of the art facility built with community well-being in mind. Whether it is a trip to the gym, taking the kids to the pool, ice skating, or enjoying the outdoor baseball and soccer facilities, Goderich caters to a growing list of athletic needs. For history buffs, the town is awash with landmarks, buildings, and stories that tell map out the major players, events and spots that made Goderich what it is today. Visit the Huron County Museum for a trip into the past lives of earlier settlers in the area or walk the steps of famous criminals at the Historic Gaol. Whether a day-tripper, a cottage-goer, shopper, fine-diner, history lover or just passing through, any stop in Goderich will give you a reason to stay awhile and give you something else to look forward to on your next visit.
