ARTOF THE COWGIRL • 2021 SUMMER EVENT PROGRAM June 27, 2021

IN A YEAR THAT HAS THROWN US MANY TWISTS AND TURNS, THE ONE THING WE CAN STILL COUNT ON IS GREAT HORSEWOMEN MAKING GREAT HORSES!
We are incredibly proud of this set of horses. This year we structured it a little differently in breaking up the Elite Sale Horse and the Select Prospects. The ONLY difference in the horses is that the Elite Sale Horses are older with a certain level of experience while the Select Prospects are made up of three- and four-year-olds that can go in any direction. All horses being offered have real life experience and are safe for a variety of riders.
We spent a lot of time going through horses to narrow it down for this small sale. What we wanted for the Elite Sale is experienced horses that could truly fit any level of rider. All of these horses have either show or ranch experience, or both! There are high-number rope horses, title-winning reined cowhorses, World Show qualifiers and point-and money-earners. Most importantly, years of time and effort are put into these horses by some of the most talented horsewomen in the country.
Art of the Cowgirl wants to show our appreciation and gratitude to all of our consignors and their families. We have many repeat consignors that we are so grateful to have developed such special relationships with over the past years and new faces that we feel truly honored to have put their trust in our event and this sale.
Thank you to the entire Art of the Cowgirl crew: Jaimie and Sierra, none of this would be possible without the countless hours you both put into this. Keeping up with the Pate’s and our crazy ideas is something worthy of a medal! You are our family and we could never thank you enough. Amber, this sale is impossible without you. Nobody knows the countless hours our sale secretary puts in and we are so lucky to have someone with such a broad experience in the western industry. A huge thank you to everyone at the Grant Company: Eric, Bart, Heather, Jamie, Jena, Derrick and Christy, you have been such a blessing to us! Heather and Bart, your work on making our sale catalog a work of art is second to none. To our sale crew, thank you for not only working hard to bring a premium on these amazing horses, but for your integrity and the amazing energy you bring to the sale!
A special thank you goes out to Curt. Your honesty, integrity and how you treat people has inspired us and made Art of the Cowgirl what it is. You raised a horse-crazy little girl and made her a horsewoman and helped mold an artistic woman with a passion for the cowboy lifestyle into a business woman. You have been the backbone of this event from the very beginning.
We hope you enjoy this sale and the entire Art of the Cowgirl 2021 in the beautiful Big Sky State!

Dolly is a strong and a beautiful mover. She is an all-around mare and excels in ranch versatility. She was shown on the Texas Tech Ranch team for two and a half years and has won multiple all-around titles and in 2019 was on the Stock Horse of Texas Collegiate World championship team. She is competitive in the Limited and Non-pro divisions but would also excel for a novice rider. She is solid and always honest in all three events as well as trail and pleasure. She is a horse that meets the rider at their level and never gives more than the rider can handle. She is great outside as well. Enjoy her now and breed her later!

Marcus”” is a nice, big, stout gelding with big feet and good bone. He has been used extensively for all aspects of ranch work and has been rode in the roughest, steepest country you can find and always knows where to put his feet. He has been roped on, sorted cattle, and has dragged many calves to the fire. He is a straight-up bridle horse, but handles well even in a halter. He has been to some of the biggest ranch ropings in the country and has been shown in several AQHA Ranch Riding classes. He has complete control of his bodychanges leads, spins, stops, backs, and has good lateral movement. He is the go-to horse for any job or rider!

“Pumba” is a beautiful dun gelding. He is the complete family horse. Quite enough for Grandma and the kids or will step up if you need a job done on the ranch. He is a very nice head horse. Has a great move very strong to the horns and will finish the run with a very quick snappy face. Pumba has done extensive ranch work. He will cut a cow, drag a calf to the fire or doctor one outside. He is great out on the trails very sure footed and nothing bothers him. If you are looking for the full deal here he is and he is only 6 years old and has a lifetime ahead of him. Up to date on teeth, farrier and worming.

Titann is the real deal -- a money earner in the arena and an overall handy ranch horse. From the pasture to the arena, you will be mounted on this handy gelding with good legs and feet! Breakaway ropers, check this one out for sure. He can run and stop hard and is super gentle on the ground. Titann will work a rope, and we’ve used him extensively on the ranch gathering, dragging calves, sorting, and doctoring yearlings. He’s currently qualified for the Ranch Horse of America Association (RHAA) finals coming up in May. He’s started out of the box, breakaway and heeling. We purchased Titann as a long yearling and are proud of the riding horse he’s become.

Magoo is a well-built gelding that loves to go to work and can go all day with the grit and strength for any job that needs to be done. He is not only an exceptional ranch horse but his breeding and extreme athleticism give him the ability to be successful in the show pen. Magoo is by Smooth As A Cat, one of the top stallions in the industry. He is very cowy, with a big stop, smooth lope and a fancy turn around. Magoo is soft in the bridle and moves off your legs. He is sure footed and travels through rough terrain with ease. Magoo is big boned, has good feet and good looks that make him the total package.

We are proud to offer “Monty”. He is an accomplished, solid, hardworking and safe gelding. We strive to offer seasoned, safe, sound horses to the public, and Monty fits the bill. The horses in our program start out being used on the ranch seeing anything and everything a 5,000 head operation can offer one, gaining a work ethic and a seasoned mind before entering the arena. Once they have proven to be worthy on the ranch we take them to the arena. Monty has shown his ability in and out of the arena! We guarantee all of our horses 100% sound, sane, and to be exactly as they are advertised.

“Ruby” good footed, good withered, cute as a button and is the one horse that everyone fights over to ride! There isn’t anything this little mare can’t handle. She is a favorite here at the ranch and she can really travel outside. Ruby has a hard stop, good turnarounds, is cowy, quick footed, and gritty as they come. This mare shines as a heel horse and breakaway horse. She has won money in heeling, barrels, ranch rodeos and has been used by our son to junior rodeo on. This handy title mare has even been used to pick up bucking horses. From kids to grandmas and cowboys in between, this mare fills the bill!

“Joe” is a beautiful red dun gelding. He is what we are all looking for in a horse! A gentleman on the ground, meets you at the gate and is a pleasure to ride. Joe is extremely quiet, gentle and willing to do anything you ask. We have done extensive ranch work, sorted in the pens, big gathers outside and used him in the branding pen. He has a nice soft handle, stops nice, turns around and travels off as smooth as they come. He is a absolute dream on the trails. We have headed a few steers on Joe and he is picking it up so fast! Keep him on the roping path, and you’ll have a wonderful head horse in no time. Joe will fit any level of rider & program. Stands good for mounting, saddling, bridling, bathing, shoeing, clipping and anything else you would like to do.

This is the kind of gelding you want a pasture full of! Affectionately known as “Straw Baby”, he absolutely shines wherever he goes. He is truly the “”elite ranch horse”” suitable for the whole family. He has seen our whole program from packing salt-to packing a bridle. Straw has been used extensively for all aspects of ranch work and is the first you want to catch to go do a job. He is a smooth mover and confident in any kind of country- from rough mountains to wetlands to desert. We have roped steers out of the box for the past 3 winters in AZ, mostly heading but will switch ends or steer stop too! There isn’t a job we’ve asked of him that he hasn’t done.

Geronimo is an absolute gem! This beautiful buckskin tobiano wears a 00 shoe and at 13.2hh, he’s big enough for an adult to ride. This gelding is a pleasure to ride while gathering cattle, dragging calves, trail riding, arena work -- he’s done it all. You can even ride him bareback. Slow paced or fast, he’s game for whatever you want to do. He’ll side pass over to anything you are standing on for easy mounting. Bonus: He’s easy to catch, just walk in the pen or pasture and he will come to you. Geronimo is truly one of a kind and has been so much fun! 10

“Journey” was bred and born on the 6666 Ranch and is 6666 branded. He is a good size gelding and has good feet and bone. Journey has been used on the ranch and travels out nicely. This is a straight-up bridle horse and has been ranch roped on competitively and shown in the AQHA Ranch Riding classes where he has had a lot of success. He has received his AQHA Performance Register of Merit in the Youth, Amateur, and Senior divisions. He has qualified for the AQHA World Championship Show in those three divisions as well. He has 86 points in the Ranch Riding. This horse changes leads effortlessly and has a good stop, spin, and really smooth transitions. He does require minimal maintenance on his front feet.

Sparkles is a very well bred, finished show and ranch horse that can do any job that needs done, whether its doctoring cattle in the pasture, loping pretty in a reining pattern or taking kids for a ride around the barn. Sparkles had cow horse training as a two year old and has been showing and being used on the ranch ever since. Sparkles has a pretty turn around, huge stop, changes leads and is very cowy. She can be turned out for months and ride off like she never had a day off. Sparkles is a top notch mare that you don’t want to miss out on. She has the breeding and ability to be the highlight of anywhere you take her.

Cowbell has done all types of ranch workgathered, shipped, doctored, drug calves. She has earned AQHA points, shown in AQHA VRH, Lucas AQHA world Show qualifier, AQHA Zoetis VRH World show qualifier, RHAA money earner and finals qualifier, SCCHA yr end class champion, NRCHA money earner, placed in go rounds of the Co. HSR RCH. She is suitable for all aged riders, very attractive, well bred, easy to get along with, enjoyable for outside trail riding or showing. 13

His name is “Monkey Bars” and his name fits him! He’s an absolute gentleman that you can crawl all over! Kind, gentle and as handsome as can be with a heart the size of Montana! He’s cowboy looking and will get you noticed wherever you go! He has done all aspects of ranch work and will go anywhere and do anything willingly. He’s super laid back and a pleasure to ride. Monkey Bars is great to ride outside and he’s the same horse every time you get on him regardless of time off and no matter the situation. He is patterned on the barrels and is started in the arena as a head and heel horse. If you’re looking for a true Montana gentleman than Monkey Bars is your guy.

Delbert is a 2010 flashy roan quarter draft pony cross. Don’t let the word pony fool! He is thick, stout and doesn’t know he is little! We have used Delbert for everything on the ranch and in the arena. He has been breakaway rope and calf roped on, heeled, picked up bucking horses and hazed in the bull dogging. Anyone can ride Delbert and get along with him, and he would excel as a junior rodeo horse the whole family could enjoy. He has been ridden and enjoyed by everyone from our six-year-old daughter Lydia to my husband Luke working the stock housing during the NFR! He was a standout taking bucking stock to and from the Thomas & Mac all week long! Find out more info www.jlhorses.com

Meet “Woo,” the perfect package of talent, style and swagger. Woo was shown at the 2020 NCHA World Championship Futurity and is the real deal in the cutting pen. Woo is bred up higher than the tree tops to do anything horseback. He has been breakaway roped and knot roped on extensively. Woo is a seasoned veteran out on the ranch and knows a day’s work as well. He is more whoa than go and has a ton of feel and confidence. If you’re looking for a handsome, fun recreational vehicle to enjoy in or out of the performance arena then look no further than this cool dude.

Ash is a great minded and stunning young prospect. This filly was started slow and steady and has held a willing attitude through all of her training. She has a nice foundation and handle and could continue on as a reined cow horse, cutter, rope horse, trail horse or any other direction! She is correct from every angle with good feet and clean legs. She has been on the flag for about 4 months and was started on cattle this February. She has style and carries herself nicely loping circles. She has a blue eye as well and we are sending in a color panel this month, she may very well be eligible for double registry which would add tremendous value to her future as a broodmare.

PJ is a cute little cow pony who is sweet and gentle. PJ is good around cattle and I have used him on the ranch. I have branded a few sets of calves on him. He is starting to neck rein pretty well and tracks a cow good too.
I am a 10 year old cowgirl. I home schooled and help my parents on our ranch. This colt is my first project. I like to heel and rope breakaway.

”Dottie”” is a good young mare! She’s built like a tank with good feet and bone. She is soft in the face, quick footed, and has a HUGE stop. She’s been working on the flag and started on the roping sled. I used her all last fall to process cattle and gather strays. She will be used for spring calving and branding by sale time and will be started out of the box. Just a great little all-around mare you could take to town for some versatility classes or use at home for any number of jobs. Would be a great breakaway prospect for the right gal to take on. Gentle but not numb, not recommended for a beginner, just because she is young. 19

Muffin is one of the smartest and most fun colts I’ve had the pleasure of riding. He has a very willing attitude that has allowed me to do numerous jobs on him at such a young age. I’ve used him to doctor sick calves in the feedlot and pasture, gathered cows on him, and will be used the next months until the sale to brand and turn calves out. This colt has a great foundation put on him and will be a great prospect for any job ahead of him.

“Iris” is sweet, well minded, has a forgiving soul and tries so hard for you. She was going to be my next roman riding and trick riding horse but I decided someone else might need Iris to get them to where they want to be as a cowgirl. Iris is a great representation of who I am as a cowgirl and the horses I want to produce! We have used on the ranch by all levels of riders. Ride through mud, rivers, bush, bareback and down the trail on a loose rein! Nothing phases her and she is confident to ride alone. Iris is always ready to chase cows, go over jumps, brand calves, rope drive as a team or trail ride and is finished team roping on the heel side.

This gorgeous palomino gelding is young, but he is an old soul. Absolutely anyone can ride him. He is super safe and sane. We have done just about everything on him, and he always says yes without any fuss. Kix is a NRCHA money earner in the Open division. He could easily be shown by a youth or non pro though. It is hard to find one as talented yet as gentle as he. You can ride him straight up in the bridle or completely bridleless. He is the brokest horse we have ever owned. He will plus all of his reining maneuvers. He has good turnarounds, is an easy lead changer, and his stops are huge! Kix is very cowy and you better be ready if you take one down the fence because he has the best fence turns. This gelding isn’t just a show pony!

“Snooks” is 3 year old Sweet Iron Ranch bred smooth coat Border Collie Male. He’s a very strong dog with a lot of bite when needed, works yearling and pairs. He comes from a long line of working dogs and is really personable!
Terry and Sonya Blomberg have a proven breeding program that they’ve built over the last 25 years. It started with the McCallum line.

Sonya is no stranger to good performance horses and great working cow dogs. Growing up in California’s Salinas Valley, Sonya has deep roots in the ranching industry. She and her husband, Terry, managed the horse division at the historic Tejon Ranch in Lebec, Calif., for more than 12 years. Sonya and Terry now reside in Long Branch, Texas, where they run Sim Angus and Beefmaster cattle, and breed and train cattle dogs, predominantly Border Collies, for themselves and others.

Sonya has always been handy and had a passion for good working dogs. She’s been working on her own bloodline of dogs with just the right amount of eye appeal, grit, speed and the ability to be in the right place at the right time.
Although it may be unlikely to have a dog in the right place every time, Sonya’s are sure the ones you’d want around in tough situations, and they usually get the job done no matter how trying the situation.
