Project Next 25 Update

With construction scheduled to begin on August 17, I wanted to provide members with an update on Project Next 25 (PN25) and where the project currently stands.

PN25 is an important golf course asset replacement and upgrade initiative focused on the long-term condition, playability, and sustainability of the golf course. Like all major golf course infrastructure, greens, bunkers, and other playing surfaces have a defined useful life. Over time, thoughtful reinvestment is required to ensure the Granite Golf Club experience continues to meet the standards expected by the membership.

Member feedback has played an important role in shaping and prioritizing this project. The condition and performance of our bunkers and greens have been discussed through surveys, committee meetings, Town Halls, Annual Members’ Meetings, and the formal member approval process. PN25 reflects the outcome of that planning and consultation.

Recently, the Club received the final construction pricing package for PN25, along with the official CCDC (Canadian Construction Documents Committee) contract from our general contractor, KCM Construction Group. The final construction cost for the approved scope is $3.809 million (exclusive of architect fees). This remains in line with the original project budget communicated during the planning process.

Picking Up Momentum

The golf season is moving at a fantastic pace, and it is wonderful to see the club buzzing with activity.

The greens are looking pristine, the course is shaping up beautifully, and the energy around the property has been fantastic.

Now that the weather is warm and cooperating, the golf operations staff is thrilled to see everyone out on the fairways and enjoying the club.

As we gear up for a spectacular summer of golf, camaraderie, and low scores, we want to share a few quick reminders. Following these simple club guidelines ensures that the course stays in peak condition and that everyone enjoys their time on the property:

1. Looking the Part: Dress Code Reminders

We pride ourselves on maintaining a traditional yet comfortable atmosphere at the club. Please ensure you and your guests adhere to the dress code before heading to the first tee:

For Gentlemen: Collared shirts or modern golf shirts (mock necks) are required and must be tucked in. Tailored golf slacks or golf shorts are perfect.

For Ladies: Golf shirts (with or without collars), sleeveless golf tops with collars, and tailored golf skirts, skorts, or slacks are permitted.

Please Avoid: Denim, cargo shorts, gym wear, and t-shirts on the course or the practice facilities.

Yes, you read that right: even if you are just coming to practice, you must adhere to the dress code.

2. Cart Etiquette: Keeping the Turf (and Everyone) Happy

Our greenskeeping crew has worked tirelessly to get the course into spectacular shape. Let's help them keep it that way while ensuring everyone stays safe out there! When operating a power cart, please remember: Age & Capacity Limits: For safety reasons, all drivers must be 16 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license. Additionally, there is a maximum of two riders and two golf bags per cart at all times.

Follow the Daily Rules: Check the chalkboard by the first tee or ask the starter for the day’s cart rules (e.g., Cart Path Only or 90-Degree Rule/Scatter).

Boundary Management: Keep all carts on the paved cart paths around the tees and greens. All par-3s are cart path only. Lastly, please enter and exit the fairways at the brown posts marked with the “G” logo.

3. Practice Area Etiquette: Share the Space

The driving range and short game areas are bound to be busy as we all work the rust out of our swings. A few courtesy rules for the practice facilities:

Linear Divot Patterns: When practicing on the grass tee, please place your ball at the back edge of your previous divot. Creating a straight line of divots maximizes the usable grass for everyone and helps the turf heal much faster.

Short Game Safety: Please be mindful of your surroundings on the short game area (SGA) and the putting green beside the clubhouse. Always look before you chip, and please clean up your golf balls when you are finished.

Range Balls Stay on the Range: Please remember that range balls are strictly for the practice facilities and should never be used on the golf course.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation in keeping our club a beautiful, welcoming, and top-tier place to play.

Upcoming Events & Registrations

Our tournament and social calendar is in full swing! There is still space available in many of our upcoming events, and you can find the full roster and registration details on the club website. If you have any questions or need assistance signing up, the golf shop staff is always here to help.

Here’s to warmer days, smooth rolls, and a wonderful season ahead.

See you on the tee!

Golf Course Etiquette & Course Care

Our golf course is the club’s greatest asset, and every member plays a role in maintaining the conditions we all enjoy. As we move through the season, we’d like to remind everyone of a few important course-care practices that make a meaningful difference every day.

Please Repair Ball Marks

An unrepaired ball mark can take weeks to heal and negatively impacts putting surfaces for everyone. Please repair your own mark, and if time permits, another nearby mark as well.

Replace or Fill Divots

Whether using sand/seed mix or replacing turf, repairing tee and fairway divots helps maintain healthy playing surfaces and improves recovery throughout the season. Rough divots can be replaced but not filled.

Proper Bunker Etiquette & Care

Our bunkers are among the most heavily maintained features on the golf course, and proper entry, exit, and raking habits make a significant difference in both playability and long-term bunker conditions. Whenever possible, please enter and exit bunkers from the flatter, lower areas rather than climbing steep faces or high edges. Repeated traffic on bunker slopes can displace sand from bunker faces, damage bunker liners beneath the sand, accelerate erosion and contamination, and increase repair time and maintenance costs. Using the low-entry areas helps preserve bunker integrity and presentation while reducing unnecessary wear on vulnerable slopes.

Well-maintained bunkers rely not only on the work of the grounds team, but also on consistent care from every golfer. Taking a few extra moments to properly enter, exit, and rake bunkers helps ensure fair and enjoyable conditions for all members and guests.

Pick Up Broken Tees

This season, the club transitioned from plastic tees to wooden tees as part of our commitment to being better environmental stewards and reducing plastic waste on the golf course. While wooden tees are biodegradable, broken pieces left on tee boxes still create unnecessary cleanup work for our maintenance staff and can interfere with mowing and presentation. A tee box scattered with broken tees also detracts from the overall appearance of the course.

We kindly ask all members and guests to take a few extra seconds to pick up broken tees after hitting. Small habits from every golfer make a big collective impact.

Golf Cart Etiquette & Traffic Management

We ask all members and guests to drive carts in the center of paved paths whenever possible. Driving along the edges of cart paths causes breakdown and crumbling of path edges, turf wear adjacent to paths, increased maintenance and repair requirements and unsafe or uneven path conditions over time.

Consistent use of the middle portion of the path helps extend the life of our cart paths and improves overall course presentation.

Cart entry and exit posts are strategically placed to control traffic flow and minimize concentrated wear patterns around tees, fairways, and greens. Please remain on the cart path until reaching the designated exit points, return to the path only at marked entry points, and avoid creating shortcuts or unauthorized traffic patterns. These traffic-control measures are designed to distribute wear evenly and protect sensitive turf areas.

Areas surrounding tees and greens are particularly vulnerable to turf stress and compaction from concentrated cart traffic. Please avoid parking too close to greens or teeing grounds, repeatedly using the same access points, and driving through thin or wet turf areas. Small adjustments in cart usage from every player greatly reduce long-term turf damage and help maintain consistent playing conditions throughout the season.

Proper golf cart usage is essential to maintaining healthy turf conditions and preserving the quality and appearance of the golf course.

Respect Maintenance Operations

When maintenance staff are working nearby, please give them appropriate space and allow them to complete tasks safely and efficiently whenever possible. The excellent conditions we enjoy are the result of tremendous effort from our agronomy team combined with the cooperation of our membership. Thank you for helping us keep the golf course in outstanding condition for everyone.

Where Hospitality Meets the Game

There is no question about it: at our club, golf always comes first. The passion for the game, the pristine fairways, and the pursuit of the perfect round are what drive our community forward. But a truly exceptional day on the course is only complete when it is matched by great hospitality off it.

As your Clubhouse Manager, my focus is to ensure that the energy and excellence you experience on the links carry seamlessly into the clubhouse. Overseeing both Food & Beverage and Member Services, our team works daily to provide the premium, welcoming environment you expect after the 18th hole

Enhancing Your Daily Club

Experience

Our operations are structured around two core areas to support your time at the club:

Food & Beverage: From your morning coffee service to busy tournament weekends, patio dining, and signature member events, our team’s focus is simple: consistent quality, efficient service, and memorable hospitality in every interaction.

Member Services: Operating behind the scenes, this team ensures the same high standard carries through our locker rooms and personal amenities. Through thoughtful details and anticipatory service, our goal is to make every visit feel effortless and comfortable for you and your guests.

"Golf brings members to the club, but it’s the clubhouse experience, the people, and the hospitality that keep them coming back."

Hearing From Our Community

The energy of our clubhouse comes from you, and your feedback drives our standards. Here is what some of your fellow members shared from recent events:

The Carrigans

Driven by Teamwork

Each day at the club brings a different pace, from high-volume holiday brunches and tournaments to busy evening dining service. It is a fast-paced environment that relies entirely on strong communication, teamwork, and an unwavering attention to detail from our staff.

With the season now officially in full swing, we are excited to build on this great momentum and look forward to seeing you around the clubhouse and on the patio all summer long.

Savoring the Season

The 2026 golf season at Granite Golf is now fully underway and operating at peak momentum. With the spring transition behind us, the club is buzzing with daily energy, activity, and the familiar camaraderie that defines summer at Granite Golf Club.

Over the past few weeks, each of our major sections Men’s, Ladies’, and Mixed have successfully hosted their opening events. These days always serve as an important marker in the season, bringing members back together around golf, camaraderie, and, of course, great food. It has been wonderful to see the patios busy again, dining rooms full, and the atmosphere around the club return to life after the winter months.

Mother’s Day was once again one of the standout occasions of the early season. Our Heart of House and service teams worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to deliver another memorable brunch and dinner service for members and their families. The continued support from the membership on these special occasions is something we never take for granted, and I would like to sincerely thank everyone who joined us.

The first long weekend of the golf season also brought with it ideal weather, packed tee sheets, and a very busy kitchen across all four days. From early breakfasts to post-round dinners, the energy throughout the club was exactly what makes this time of year so special.

This season also marks the launch of our new kitchen feature program, designed to showcase the talent and creativity within our Heart of House team. Rather than features coming solely from myself or Sous Chef Brendan, members will now regularly see dishes created by various members of the culinary team.

Leading off the program were Sous Chef Brendan, along with line cooks Connor and Matt, each bringing forward dishes that reflected both creativity and technical ability. It is important to us that Granite Golf Club continues to develop young culinarians while also giving members something fresh and exciting to experience throughout the season.

More than Just Paperwork

When most people think of Human Resources, they imagine a quiet office tucked away, filled with files, handbooks, and policy memos. But at Granite Golf Club, HR is the engine that keeps our most valuable asset, our people, running at peak performance.

From the first morning mow on the greens to the final dessert served in the dining room, HR is woven into every Member experience. But was does the department actually do?

TheLifecycleofOurTeam

Our HR team manages the "Employee Journey," ensuring that every staff member is equipped to provide the world-class service our Members expect. This happens through seven key pillars:

1.RecruitmentandHiring: finding the right personalities who share our passion for hospitality.

2.Onboarding: welcoming new faces and immersing them in our club’s unique culture and standards.

3.TrainingandDevelopment: constant growth, ensuring our team stays ahead of industry trends.

4.HealthandSafety: keeping our workplace secure so our team can focus on Members.

5.Policy Implementation: providing the fair, consistent framework that keeps the club professional and organized.

6.Employee Engagement: building a culture where staff feel like a family, not just a workforce.

7.Employee Support: being the advocate and resource for every individual on our payroll.

Success Starts with Value

The core philosophy of our HR department is simple: Success starts with making every employee feel valued and celebrated.

When our greens crew feels supported, the course looks better. When our backshop feel appreciated, every detail of the player experience is flawless. When our servers feel celebrated, the dining experience shines brighter. By investing in the people behind the scenes, we ensure that every time you step onto the tee or into the dining room, you’re met with a team that is proud to be here.

“A club is only as strong as its culture. HR is here to make sure that culture stays healthy, vibrant, and focused on excellence.”

Growing Our Granite Golf Community

With the 2026 season now in full swing, it has been wonderful to see one of our favorite traditions continue: integrating our newest members into the Granite community! Our comprehensive new member orientations have been a tremendous success, ensuring that our latest additions feel confident, comfortable, and right at home on the property.

During these sessions, new members have the opportunity to:

Meet the senior leadership team and learn about the Club’s rich history. Review essential guidelines, including clubhouse and on-course etiquette, as well as our dress code.

Explore upcoming event programming and learn how the registration process works.

A Fantastic Start to Our Event Calendar

We kicked off our social calendar with an incredible turnout for our opening sports, activities, and social events—which have officially cemented their status as member favorites! These gatherings provided the perfect backdrop to reconnect, catch up, and introduce ourselves to fresh faces. It has been wonderful to see our club culture shine as our seasoned members continue to make our newest additions feel incredibly welcome.

Share the Granite Golf Club Experience

With such an exciting summer ahead, it is easy to see what makes Granite such a fantastic place to belong. If you have a friend, colleague, or family member who is interested in joining our vibrant community, please don’t hesitate to connect them with us. As a token of our appreciation, we continue to offer a $500 club credit to any member who refers a new member.

Here’s to an unforgettable season ahead!

We May Manage the Club but

Mother Nature still controls the conditions.

The golf season got off to a challenging start, with persistent poor weather reminding us all that Mother Nature ultimately has the final say when it comes to outdoor recreation. Fortunately, recent weeks have brought a welcome change in conditions, and the resulting increase in member activity has helped restore momentum throughout the Club. While members most immediately experience the impact through course conditions and interruptions to play, poor weather has a much broader effect across nearly every area of the Club.

Reduced tee times and diminished participation naturally affect golf operations, but the ripple effects extend well beyond the course itself. Food and beverage activity, special events, practice facility usage, guest rounds, and retail sales all tend to soften during prolonged periods of unfavourable weather. At the same time, many operating costs continue regardless of conditions, placing additional pressure on the Club’s financial performance.

From a financial perspective, weather variability is one of the more challenging external factors to manage, particularly during the early months of the season when member engagement and activity levels are typically strongest. Although short-term impacts can often be recovered through stronger participation later in the year, sustained periods of poor weather can influence operating results across multiple departments. May has been a tale of two halves and we are now coming off a stretch of exceptional weather, and the financial forecast reflects that.

As the weather hopefully continues to cooperate, we look forward to seeing you all out enjoying the Club — whether that means a quick nine holes, dinner with friends, a visit to the practice facilities, or simply spending time around the clubhouse. An active golf course and engaged membership remain the foundation of a successful Club and it has been encouraging to see both on full display as the weather has improved.
