The new 650-seat theatre is set beyond the historic orchard and is modelled on the fourtiered horseshoe of La Scala, Milan, with a vibrant acoustic, and a generous orchestra pit.

Each night of the season there will be 50 cheap seats dedicated to under 30s.

BRYN TERFEL THE CIRCLE OF VIRTUOUS ENTERPRISE are 2,000 people who are each contributing £1,000 towards the £8m Appeal to build the Theatre in the Woods.

The 2,000 places (“points”) are allotted in the order of joining. Bryn Terfel has taken Point 1. The sooner you join the Circle, the closer you will be to Bryn. You may consider taking Points for your children. You will be informed of your Point number(s).

Since its inception in 1998, Grange Park Opera has performed to some 250,000 people with more than 50 productions and 450 performances. In 18 festivals, it has become a treasured feature of the international operatic landscape.

• After 18 years at our former home, and that lease now terminated, it is time to build a permanent home for the next century. We are determined to use this moment to abolish the myth of high-end elitism that surrounds opera today, to nurture the next generation’s love of opera and culture, with world-class singers and superb orchestras and to create a bastion of cultural progress.

Year-round access and a 99-year lease from the Mary Roxburghe Trust, into which Bamber Gascoigne has placed his inheritance, greatly expands what is possible for Grange Park Opera to achieve.

Far from being an exclusive, single-use opera house, the Theatre in the Woods will be a springboard for the performing arts: a place where dynamic young people – rich in talent but often creatively homeless and hard-pressed to find the means and marketing to enable them to aspire to achieve their potential – will showcase all manner of projects from avant-garde fashion shows to dance, concerts, smaller-scale operas, and string quartet masterclasses.

The exquisitely beautiful location is just 23 miles from London with Horsley railway station one mile away. A £13.10 return ticket from Waterloo and a journey of 45 minutes opens this enchanting and, until now, secret place to people of all ages and from all walks of life.

This Appeal is a rare chance to make a difference to the performing arts landscape in a vision that celebrates culture, learning, heritage and artistic excellence.

Grange Park Opera is a not-for-profit organisation.
