Superintendent's Letter: The Future of Grandview Schools I consider it a privilege to write my first School Report letter as your new Superintendent. These past two years I have loved getting to know the teachers, staff, and community members as the assistant superintendent and am looking forward to expanding that process. Twenty years ago, I began my teaching career not having any idea of what my future held, but knowing that I wanted to help educate kids and push them to achieve more. A lot of things have changed in the world since that time, but my drive toward student achievement continues to grow. Our district teachers and staff have been working diligently to make sure they are ready to educate the students of Grandview in the 2016-17 school year. We have had more than 730 students enrolled in summer school, our custodial and grounds crews have worked hard to clean and maintain our facilities, as well as construction crews preparing new parking lots at 3 of our school sites. Our teachers and administrators have been involved in curriculum revisions and professional development sessions to push their educational knowledge and better prepare them to meet the needs of all students. In the midst of all of this, our support staff has continued to keep all of these efforts running smoothly while also preparing for our newly implemented Centralized Enrollment to provide better customer service to our patrons. As you can see, summer is not a break time for us, but a time of preparation and learning. As I begin my tenure as your Superintendent, I assure you that the education of our students will continue to be our number one priority and, through a collaborative partnership with our outstanding Board of Education, we will continue to provide a quality educational environment for all students, staff, and families. I believe in the mission of the Grandview School District: to prepare ALL students to be college and career ready through high quality instruction and meaningful relationships. This is one of my core values and continues to be what drives me to do this job. The future of Grandview schools is a bright one and the Grandview team is ready to meet whatever challenges they may face. My family and I are excited to be part of the community and I am proud to be your Superintendent. I thank the School Board for the opportunity to serve the district and am glad to be a part of the future of Grandview C-4!

GC-4's New Website, New Look 2016 POINTS OF PRIDE
Student Achievement 2015-16 APR highlights include: • District science scores are the highest in four years. • Students scoring proficient or advanced in English Language Arts increased by 10%. • Belvidere Elementary scored 100% of the points possible for the second year in a row. • Butcher-Greene Elementary achieves the largest APR increase in the district. • The district earns 100% of possible points for graduation rate for the third straight year. • All district schools score within the ‘Accredited’ or ‘Accredited with Distinction’ range. Athletics • GHS boys track and field clinches sixth state title in a row. • GHS Hall of Fame introduces first year inductees. Upgrades • Conn-West Elementary, Belvidere Elementary, Martin City K-8, and Central Office receives parking lot upgrades. • Meadowmere Elementary receives new playground thanks to community donations. • Fire alarm system at CAIR, Conn-West Elementary, Meadowmere Elementary and Central Office gets upgraded. The Grandview C-4 School District is excited to unveil its brand new website. The url-www.grandviewc4.net- remains the same but the website is new and improved. Each school now has its own site as well that will showcase all of the news and announcements for each building. "We want to make sure this website truly connects with our community to keep you in the know about what's going on in our district. It also serves as a virtual window for people outside of our community who want to know what we're about," said Sheba Clarke, GC-4 Public Relations Coordinator. Centralized Enrollment: All Schools, One Location This is the first year the Grandview C-4 School District is rolling out Centralized Enrollment. It is aimed to make the enrollment process more convenient for families to enroll their students at one location. Centralized Enrollment is a great opportunity for families to get bus routes and information, register for LINC and special programs all in one location. You can begin the process with online registration by using the parent portal. For a link to Parent Portal, please go to our district website, www.grandviewc4.net New families should wait until Centralized Enrollment to begin their process. Kenny Rodrequez took the helm as the Grandview C-4 Superintendent July 1st, 2016. Previous to the position he served as the district's Curriculum and Instruction Assistant Superintendent. His responsibilities included the direction and overall delivery of K-12 curriculum programs, the developing, implementing, and evaluation of educational services for the district, and providing leadership for all Elementary and Secondary schools. In this interview with Mr. Rodrequez he talks about goals, priorities, and why he got into education. Q: How excited are you to start this journey as GC-4's new leader? KR: I would say exhilarated and eager would best describe how I feel! Having been in the district for the past two years, I know how amazing the staff is and fully understand what we can accomplish together for the students of Grandview.

Grandview High School Track and Field seniors Maliek Kendall and Caulin Graves have never lost a state championship title their entire high school career. “I went through all my years winning state and that’s a big accomplishment,” said Kendall. It’s a big accomplishment that has labeled the Grandview High School track and field team as the team to beat every year at the Missouri State High School Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City.

“I don't think there's any real pressure to win the whole thing again, it's just that our own expectations are so high now that it would be disappointing not to win. I always tell the kids that the only ones who can truly beat us are "us." We can be our own worst enemies sometimes; selfishness, laziness and not holding each other accountable can kill your team culture and we have to take measured steps to make sure that doesn't happen," said GHS Boys Track and Field Head Coach Russell Dotson. The team has placed first a half a dozen times, even after moving up a division from Class 3A to Class 4A last year. This summer the team was issued a proclamation by the City of Grandview for their accomplishment. After winning so many state titles however, the new challenge for the team can become keeping it up. “It can be a bit challenging to live up to those expectation but we know what we’re supposed to do,” said Graves. Dotson says the team will continue to be competitive next year. Of the 12 athletes that qualified for State, only three were seniors.

"I think the biggest challenges that come with success are staying humble and hungry. Keeping the kids motivated is always a challenge; our sport is such a grind, it's basically just training all the time. The meets are supposed to be the fun part but can still be really rough. We try to keep things as fun as possible in practice while still maintaining order," said Dotson. Next year, Graves and Kendall will move on to compete on the collegiate track and field level. Both were state champions in their events. Graves won the 100 meter and 200 meter dash at state and Kendall won the 110 meter high hurdles. Graves is headed for Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and Kendall will attend Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. “I’m excited. I’m ready to see what the future has prepared for me,” said Kendall. While both are eager for next year at their new schools, they leave this advice for their fellow Bulldogs as they attempt to earn title number seven. “It’s no pressure. Do not feel rushed into this just because we won state. You’ve got to be patient in this sport,” said Graves.

Students Riding the Bus Will Now Use Z-Passes We are excited to announce that the Grandview C-4 School District will be using the new technology Z-Pass Student Ridership for all students who ride district buses. The Z-Pass Student Ridership is a badge attached to the students' backpack that will allow the district’s Transportation Department to monitor students getting on and off the bus to ensure safety. The badge communicates with the Z-Pass scanner located on the bus. This system tracks when and where each student enters and exits the bus on their assigned route. With Z-Pass ridership visibility, we will always know the location of the bus, which students are on the bus, and where and when the student entered and exited. In the case of an emergency, the information will be easily accessible to quickly re-route buses, make unplanned stops, or locate specific passengers, as needed. Students will be issued Z-Passes during Centralized Enrollment. They will be responsible for having the Z-Pass every day they are riding the bus. Current mortgage coupon or rental/lease agreement with landlord information and signature.
If you reside with someone who owns or rents/leases property within the Grandview C-4 School District attendance boundaries, an Affidavit of Residency will be required. In addition to completing the affidavit forms, the following documentation will be needed from the Grandview C-4 School District resident AND the parent/legal guardian to verify residency: GRANDVIEW RESIDENT PROVIDES: 1
