Superintendent's

Letter

In March of 2020, our school district shifted into a virtual educational environment for the first time in its history. At that point, none of us thought that we would still be dealing with the effects of the pandemic two years later. While this is unfortunately the case, I know that we are still providing a high quality education to each and every student in the Grandview C-4 School District and I am extremely proud of the daily effort of our staff in spite of the challenging situation. Coinciding with our educational efforts is the excitement for our upcoming bond projects. After the passing of the $45 million bond in April of 2021, we completed the front entrance of the Martin City K-8 School building which included the renovation of the front office and meeting spaces. Additionally, several design meetings have been held to begin planning the multiple projects that will be done throughout the next few years. These include several projects at the high school such as renovating the visitors' side of Bulldog Stadium and locker room facilities, the renovation of our fine arts facilities, and several interior upgrades to accentuate the school pride that already exists within our community.

GC-4 Board of Education Monica Terry, President Dawn Foy, Vice President Damon Greene, Treasurer Leonard Greene, Member Helen Ransom, Member Kara Wardlow, Member Stacy Wright, Member GC-4 Administration

We will continue to update the playgrounds at all elementary schools as well as safety and security throughout the District by upgrading all camera systems and outside door locks. We are also excited about branding throughout the District which will coincide with our Bulldog logo updates and ensure all are future-ready and continue to reflect the strong Bulldog tradition that exists throughout our community. I truly believe that these projects and several others will push our school district to new heights! All of us unfortunately are still being impacted by the pandemic and are looking forward to a day that it no longer dictates what is possible or not possible. As for the challenges that continue to arise, we as a community will face them: Together. We must work together to make our district, and community, the best possible environment for all of our students, all our staff, and all the citizens that we serve. Thank you for your support and your unwavering dedication to our community. #WeAreGrandview

BOARD

PRESIDENT'S

LETTER

"After all, #WeAreGrandview doesn’t just apply to the

schools. We are a community. Together we are stronger."

MONICA TERRY Board of Education President

Hello Grandview families, In my first letter to you last summer, I mentioned that the 2020-2021 school year was a year like no other. I was looking forward to the next school year and all it would bring, excited for the new start the 2021-2022 school year would present. Who could have known that this year would be an even greater challenge? It seems as if adversity and challenges are becoming more commonplace than the feelings of ease and comfort. Our students are learning to be back in the classroom or learning to be in one for the first time. Our teachers continue to do the very best they can to provide the highest education possible in seemingly impossible circumstances. Our support staff is furiously working behind the scenes to ensure everyone has what they need. Our administration is working to provide leadership while also navigating an ever-changing landscape. Everyone is wondering what will be next. As patrons and families of the Grandview School District, your support is invaluable. I know how hard it has been for you to manage the challenges in ever-changing circumstances with a pandemic that seems to have no end in sight. I know it may be a lot to ask; however, our students, staff, and board members need you now more than ever. Just as we think things are going back to “normal” something changes yet again. Mother Teresa once said, “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless,” I ask for continued positivity to be sent our way as decisions are made on a regular basis to ensure the safety and success of our students. After all, #WeAreGrandview doesn’t just apply to the schools. We are a community. Together we are stronger. Stay strong, Monica Terry

REAL-WORLD LEARNING: GHS STUDENTS' MURAL OVERLOOKS KC

Grandview High School students teamed up with the Kauffman Foundation to work on a mural project that was put on display in the heart of Kansas City at Volker and Troost. The mural is a part of Kauffman’s Real World Learning Pathways to Design track. Last school year, the students worked on the project for real-world client, KC Stem Alliance. The Pathways to Design project included a combination of students from Grandview, Ruskin, and Center, who are placed into groups. Each group was assigned with the task of designing a public mural that represented the combined concept of "STEM" and "inclusion". Student groups were notified at the start of the project that, out of the three groups, just one group would be chosen to have their mural installed on a large scale on the outside of the KC Stem Alliance's building. The students were recognized during an Art Installation Ceremony held on November 11.
