"THE FUTURE" When I started my teaching career more than 20 years ago, the year 2020 seemed like science fiction and yet here we are about to start the 2019/2020 school year!

Three years ago I told the School Board and the community that my goal for the Grandview C-4 School District was to no longer be one of the best kept secrets in Kansas City by telling our story proudly and often. These last three years I believe we have made tremendous strides toward that goal through local, regional, state, and national recognition. As you read through this issue of the School Report, you will learn more about the amazing things happening in Grandview C-4 including our numerous summer bond projects.

With another year of successes behind us, our focus now is on the future of the Grandview C-4 School District. We spent the 2018/2019 school year working on our new strategic plan that will guide our work for the next five years. This plan was carefully crafted with input from our students, parents, staff and community members. The new goals and action steps are all centered around one focus: student success.

As we move into 2020, the Grandview C-4 School District will continue to enhance what it means to be a Grandview graduate to ensure that our students leave us with a clearly defined career pathway. We believe that Grandview C-4 continues to be poised to be THE example of student success in the Kansas City metro as well as the state. This means continuous improvements in our core academics, additional social emotional supports, and an even stronger partnership with our Grandview Community.

I am excited that we are continuing the momentum in our district and look forward to bringing even more pride to the Grandview/South KC Community! As always, I am proud to be your Superintendent. Thank you for trusting us with your students and for being a valued community partner.

Board President's Letter

Dear Grandview C-4 Community, What a year our district has had. From the Amazing Brain exhibit grand opening at Union Station, to the Grandview High School (GHS) Robotic's team 2nd place showing at Regionals. In the 2018-19 school year our district also won Gold at the metro's Math Relays, we even earned Project Lead the Way's 'Distinguished District' status. I'd also like to point out the GHS Track and Field state championship boy's track team and I could go on and on mentioning things back-to-back…just like the repeat championship winning Grandview Bulldog boys’ basketball team. My point is, we have so much to be proud of in our wonderful school community.

I am proud of the work that district leadership is continuing to do such as including the implementation of Cultural Competency training for staff, allowing us to build a more relatable environment for our children. We are also embracing our entire community with education courses through Community Academy. This summer we are happy to add renovations and additions throughout the district which include the AWESOME scoreboard and stadium seating at GHS. These examples are signs of growth as a district and it is great to see the fruits of our labor.

The district is diligently working to provide a sound foundation for our children. The School Board, administrative team, and staff are always collaborating to make sure our children have the tools necessary to succeed on their next journey. I am humbled and honored to serve as the Grandview C-4 School Board President for another year. I will do everything within my power to make sure we keep our children first, provide the administration guidance and supply all the support necessary for them to do their jobs to the highest levels.

I will close with a familiar theme; we need you! We need your commitment to work with teachers, counselors, administrators and school board members to provide feedback, be involved with your students, read to them, learn with them, encourage and love on them. We have no choice but to succeed, our future depends on it! #WeAreGrandview!

POINTS OF PRIDE The Grandview C-4 School District’s overall Annual Performance Report score improved to 90.2% for 2018.

This is the highest score for the district since 2013. The score assures the district remains in the Accredited category.

The report was released by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

The district earned 108.2 out of 120 points.

Grandview C-4 School District has been recognized as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished District for providing interactive learning opportunities for students in science, technology, engineering and math through its PLTW programs. It is one of just 21 districts across the U.S. to receive this honor.

PLTW is a nonprofit organization that serves millions of PreK-12 students and teachers in schools across the U.S. Grandview Middle School also earned the PLTW Distinguished School honor for a second year in a row.

The Grandview C-4 School District earned the District Champion title at this year’s 5th annual Prep KC Math Relays.

Grandview Middle School and Meadowmere Elementary School took home gold in their categories, while Butcher Greene, Martin City K-8, and Conn-West earned silver.

Congratulations to Martin City K-8 Teacher Cindy Long! She was selected as one of six Kansas City Regional Teachers of the Year.

She was recognized for her passion for teaching, her dedication to the profession, and her drive to ensure all students achieve success.

The Grandview High School robotics team placed 2nd at the FIRST Regional Robotics Competition. The mark is one of the best showings so far for a Grandview C-4 team.

Class of 2019 graduate Chayanne Sandoval-Williams is one of 40 National Winners recognized for technological achievements. She is one of two in the State of Missouri to make the list!

Grandview C-4's FOCUS program celebrated the grand opening of its Amazing Brain exhibit at Union Station. The exhibit is Science City’s Largest Indoor Exhibit, Courtesy of the Burns & McDonnell Battle of the Brains Competition.

The Grandview Boys Basketball team became State Champions for a second year in row at the Missouri High School Class 4 State Championship.

The team earned its first state title in 2018.

The Grandview Boy's Track and Field team won its seventh state title in May at the Missouri Class 4 State Championship Track Meet.

The boy's team scored 63 point to beat out Festus who scored 50 points.

“The Family Resiliency Navigator will be a valuable asset to our team in that they will be able to help families navigate and access community resources, “ said Karla Harris, District Social Worker.

This fall students and families at every grade level will have access to resources that support social-emotional learning skills. The district has expanded its partnership with Cornerstones of Care to provide optional social and emotional health screenings to students in grades 3-5. Additionally, a therapist and a Family Resiliency Navigator will be assigned to work with all five elementary schools and the both middle schools.

In the secondary grade levels the district is excited to partner with ReDiscover, which will add a mental health professional to Grandview High School (GHS).

“Eventually, the goal is to add a second mental health professional that will work between GHS and High Grove Early Childhood Center,” said Sheryl Malloy, Director of Special Services.

The expansion of socialemotional learning will also include suicide awareness, student-driven self-acceptance programs and calming corners in several classrooms to help students relax during their most stressful times in class.

“It is unrealistic for schools to meet every need of every student on our own. It is imperative for schools to develop community partnerships that allow the load to be shared,” said Malloy.

This is a great opportunity for families to enroll all of their children, get transportation information, LINC and special programs taken care of in one location.

To make your Centralized Enrollment experience faster and more convenient for you we encourage you to utilize the Bulldog FAST PASS! That’s where you can email your required residency documents to fastpassres@grandviewc4.net from now to July 25. Once approved, you’ll receive a bulldog fast pass and skip residency lines at Centralized Enrollment!

IMMUNIZATIONS Current students should bring any updated immunization records to enrollment. Students new to district or returning after attending elsewhere need to bring their entire immunization record. State requirements are available on our website www.grandviewc4.net.

Just click on 'Registration' at the top right of the homepage, then go to 'Health Forms and Immunizations.'

The Jackson County Health Department will be providing free TdaP, MCV, and HPV immunizations during the first day of Centralized Enrollment on August 5 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Grandview High School. Please bring your immunization record with you.

The Grandview UPS Store at 1503 Main Street is available to assist families with scanning residency documents free of charge during this period. The UPS Store will scan the documents to your email.

You will be required to email the scanned documents to: FASTPASSRES@GRANDVIEWC4.NET. For a second year in a row will will have Fast Pass Saturday on August 3, 9am-1pm. This day of Centralized Enrollment is for fast pass users only.

GRANDVIEW C-4 RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS If you own or rent/lease property within the Grandview C-4 School District attendance boundaries, the following documentation must be presented to verify residency: Current mortgage statement or rental/lease agreement in the resident's name with landlord information and signatures Two CURRENT utility bills (gas, electric, water, trash service, home telephone or cable) in the resident's name. Billing or statement date (not the due date) must be within the last 30 days; no final bills, disconnect or shut-off notices will be accepted.

If enrolling a student as a custodial guardian, you must provide court documentation or a letter of placement by a social services agency as proof of guardianship.

If you reside with someone who owns or rents/leases property within the Grandview C-4 School District attendance boundaries, an Affidavit of Residency will be required. In addition to completing the affidavit forms, the following documentation will be needed from the Grandview C-4 School District resident AND the parent/legal guardian to verify residency: Grandview C-4 School District RESIDENT must provide: Current mortgage statement or rental/lease agreement in the resident's name with landlord information and signatures.

Ms. Nash comes to Grandview C-4 from the Missouri Department of Education's Regional Professional Development Council as a Project Program Specialist Consultant. She also has experience as an elementary principal, an elementary assistant principal and a cla ssroom teacher. Please join us in welcoming her to Grandview!

Kirk Hipple has been selected, as the District Activities Director. Mr. Hipple comes to us with 12 years of administrative and activity director experience. His most recent experience has been in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, as well as being a Missouri State High School's Activities Association liaison. Let's welcome Mr. Hipple to our district!
