FIRST LADY’S MESSAGE

By Maryann Nicholas, First Lady of the Grand Lodge of DC

Hello again to our Masonic families in the Grand Lodge F.A.A.M. of Washington, DC! The current pandemic restrictions have definitely put a dent into our plans for family events, teas, and gettogethers this year, but we’ve managed a few virtual activities thus far.

It seems that everyone has discovered “Zoom” and the power of video conferencing. Me, too!

During our “Virtual Tea” in May, some of our ladies wore beautiful dresses. I was not one of them. For me, the term “COVID-19” has more to do with weight gain than any medical term, and I’m still dealing with the challenge of fitting into any of my “tea-appropriate” dresses! I hope that all of you are doing better.

But during our virtual tea, the wife of one of our Past Grand Masters, Vickie Starr, laid out her mother’s tea service, which had not been used in 53 years, and it was very beautiful and enjoyed by our other ladies on the call.

A few weeks later we also conducted a ladies’ “Virtual Happy Hour” and, frankly, that was even more fun! We had 12 ladies on the call, and a bit of wine made the event a great time! We are blessed to have such wonderful women who support our Grand Lodge and our Masons, and I love having the opportunity to spend some time with you all.

We are hopeful that there may yet be an opportunity for family events in the fall, particularly our Annual Grand Lodge Picnic. We have it scheduled in late September, but we will need to carefully watch the current pandemic situation.

Mike and I are praying for you all, and we appreciate your love and support. I hope that you all will continue to stay safe. Look for more virtual events soon!

Sincerely,

Maryann
