Loop 9 promises prime grade brisket smoked to perfection, the best ribs you've ever tasted, Texas sausages, and so much more. Every item on the Loop 9 BBQ menu is prepared from scratch with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients and truly authentic Texas flavors. The menu doesn’t stop with premium barbecue. The scratch-made sides include Mexican Corn, Borracha Beans, Fried Okra, Cornbread, and two flavors of Fresh Cut Fries. Lavine’s wife inspired him to include her award-winning pies for dessert. Chocolate Cream Pie, Coconut Cream Pie, Key Lime Pie, and Banana Cream Pudding add some sweetness to the main savory offerings. SHORT TERM RENTAL ORDINANCE
The Grand Prairie City Council passed an updated Short-Term Residential Rentals ordinance on May 17, 2022. The updated ordinance requires short-term rental operators to obtain a city permit.
A short-term rental is the use of a residential unit for tenancy of 30 or fewer days for a fee. This includes homes or other units, such as a garage apartment or backyard cottage, listed for rent on Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway and similar websites.
Once a homeowner has been issued a short-term rental permit, they are required to distribute by hand a notice to neighbors within 200 feet of the shortterm rental property.
The City of Grand Prairie’s website page gptx.org/str contains comprehensive information about short term rentals including:
› A map of short-term rental properties in Grand Prairie
› The city’s short-term rental ordinance
› The short-term rental application process
› Online short-term rental application and payment portal
For more information, contact City of Grand Prairie Code Compliance at 972-237-8098 or email strpermits@gptx.org.
HIGHER HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION, LOWER PROPERTY TAX FOR GRAND PRAIRIE RESIDENTS IN 2023
A higher Homestead exemption and a lower property tax were approved by the City Council for residents in 2023 and are part of the city’s 2022-2023 budget. The Grand Prairie City Council reduced the city’s portion of property tax rate by a half cent from $0.664998 to $0.66/$100 of valuation and raised the homestead exemption from 10% to 12.5% or $5,000 (whichever is greater) effective in 2023. A homestead exemption lowers the taxable value of your home, which reduces the amount of tax you pay.
When you pay your city property taxes, don’t forget about all the services you receive. The city’s portion of property tax on a home valued at $225,000 home is about $3.70 a day. For less than lunch, you get:
❱ 24/7 police protection
❱ 24/7 fire protection
❱ 24/7 ambulance service
❱ New and well-maintained streets, sidewalks, signs, streetlights and signals
❱ A growth strategy including economic development, city planning, permits, engineering, inspections and code compliance
❱ More than 70 amazing public parks, pools, trails and recreation centers
❱ Free and equal access to all at the award-winning Library system, where we educate everyone
❱ A strong digital backbone with an open, transparent, and accessible government
❱ And more.
Check your county appraisal district website to make sure you’re saving the most money possible with a homestead exemption. And, if you are age 65 or older on Jan. 1, be sure to file for the property tax senior freeze that keeps the amount you pay from ever increasing.
NEW DEVELOPMENT
BIG SHOTS GOLF SET TO OPEN IN 2024
› BigShots Golf will open in the new Mayfield Groves development on SH 161 and Forum Drive, adjacent to IKEA, in late 2024. The golf entertainment venue will include a two story tee line with 80 climatecontrolled tee boxes, a tech-driven indoor putting course and a sports bar.
› Also located in Mayfield Groves, Andretti Karting and Games is set to open by the end of 2023. A 100,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World will open nearby in late spring 2024. The new venues are near Grand Prairie’s EpicCentral entertainment district, a future top destination in DFW. “The addition of BigShots Golf to our current and soon-to-open offering of entertainment, dining and shopping along the SH 161, is a great addition to the previously announced Bass Pro Shops and Andretti Karting and Games,” said Mayor Ron Jensen.
› Black Rock Coffee is set to open in spring 2023 on Camp Wisdom Road and Lake Ridge Parkway, Hobby Lobby will open in May 2023 next to Kohls on SH 161. Pop Shelf Variety Store will open a home goods, seasonal décor and party store on the east side of SH 161 in June 2023 next to Kohl’s. Braum’s plans to open a new 6,000-square-foot store on the north side of Camp Wisdom east of Magna Carta. Rosa’s Mexican Café is planning to build on the southwest corner of Mayfield and SH 161. Shake Shack plans to build a restaurant in the Epic West shopping center on Mayfield Road west of SH 161.

RIDE ANYWHERE IN GRAND PRAIRIE FOR $3
Via Grand Prairie is the city’s on-demand, shared transportation service. Think of it as a minibus that comes when you want and where you want. Give Via Grand Prairie your number, pickup, and drop-off addresses and you will be provided with a few ride options. Choose the option that works best for you and a driver will be sent your way. This is a shared ride service, which means that you could be sharing a ride with up to five people. Via Grand Prairie does not replace the Grand Connection transportation system for seniors and people with disabilities in Grand Prairie.

HOW TO RIDE WITH VIA GRAND PRAIRIE
1. Create an account
Download the Via Grand Prairie app from the App Store or Google Play Store and follow the signup steps.

BICYCLE & PEDESTRIAN TRAIL SAFETY 101
May is National Bike Safety Month. Safe cycling not only applies to riding on the roads but it also applies to our trails. It is both cyclists and pedestrians who need to be good stewards of our trails. Here are a few helpful tips on doing so.
TRAIL SAFETY PROTECT YOURSELF
Know your limits. Prepare for sun and heat. Wear sunscreen, hats, insect repellent and appropriate clothing and hiking shoes. Bring a first aid kit. Heatstroke and hypothermia can kill. Wear layers of clothing so you can adjust to temperature changes.
Drink plenty of water. Your body loses fluid quickly when you’re on the trail. Bring a quart of water per hour of activity. Eat a salty snack with each drink to maintain energy and avoid illness.
Wear a helmet when biking to protect yourself in case of a crash.
PLAN YOUR HIKE
Weather changes quickly. Check forecasts and prepare for changes in the weather.
Tell others where you’ll be. If possible, avoid exploring alone. Tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return. Take a trails map. Pick up a paper map or download one to your phone.
ON THE TRAIL
Unpaved trails may have wet sections, loose rocks, thorny plants, tree roots and/or low-hanging limbs, and can be tough going for a stroller or wheelchair. Potentially harmful plants and animals live in parks. You’ll see them more easily if you stay on trails.
BICYCLE SAFETY PREPARE FOR YOUR RIDE
Wear a properly fitted helmet, check your brakes and tires, and wear light colors to make it easier for drivers to see you.
TIPS TO STAY SAFE WHILE RIDING
Stay alert, put away electronic devices, pay attention to lane markers, don’t ride between vehicles, cross at intersections, make eye contact with drivers before crossing, and never attempt to cross a multi-lane highway.
FOLLOW TRAFFIC LAWS
You have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers. Stop at red lights and stop signs, ride in a bicycle lane if present, and travel in the same direction as traffic. If a bicycle lane is not present, ride as close to the right side of the road as possible. Use a light on the front and a red reflector or light on the back of your bike at night.
USE PROPER HAND SIGNALS
For a left turn, stretch your left arm to the left. For a right turn, stretch your right arm to the right. For a stop, hold your left elbow out, arm downward, with palm facing behind you.

Schedule Your Fitness Assessment
What is a Fitness Assessment?
A fitness assessment is a test or measurement completed by a professional to get health information about a client to determine their current level of fitness.
Why do a Fitness Assessment?
There are many reasons why fitness assessments are important. They do not take a lot of time to complete but can provide a wealth of information. Assessments serve as a baseline measurement that trainers and clients can use to build an effective program and to compare results over a period of time.

The InBody 570
An Epic Fitness Assessment includes the use of the InBody 570 Composition Analyzer.
45-Second Tests
Quickly measure fat mass, muscle mass, and body water. Auto-calibrated, userfriendly, and non-invasive, testing is fast and easy—just stand on the device and hold the hand electrodes.
No Empirical Estimations
No empirical estimations based on age, sex, ethnicity, or body type. Instead, Direct Segmental Multi-Frequency BIA technology measures body segments separately for an accurate analysis based on your unique body.
Advanced Outputs
Get essential outputs for evaluating overall health and wellness. Draw more insights from additional metrics like Visceral Fat Level and Segmental Fat Analysis, track progress, validate programs, and deliver actionable advice backed by trustworthy data.
Result Sheet
Every InBody Test includes a full-page Result Sheet printout that details muscle, fat, and water measurements and highlights specific areas to focus on.
