PRAIRIE PAWS ADOPTION CENTER COMPLETES EXPANSION The recent expansion and renovation at Grand Prairie Animal Services and Adoption Center, 2222 W. Warrior Trl., has helped accommodate the increasing number of homeless animals in Grand Prairie. The new expansion tripled the amount of cat capacity and doubled the amount of dog capacity.

A new surgery station also allowed for an increase of surgeries performed each week, including spay/neuter, heartworm prevention and dental health. Renovations were made in the

existing shelter to provide a healthier environment for animals with a new air conditioning system for better air filtering. New outdoor space was also added, providing a new meet-and-greet courtyard and several large areas for dog play groups. The new space allows dogs time to spend time outdoors playing with each other in a safe space, increasing socialization and adoption potential. An infestation of the destructive Emerald Ash borer beetle has been confirmed in Tarrant County. The state and county have quarantined all brush and firewood from leaving Tarrant County in an effort to slow the spread.

Grand Prairie residents and businesses in Tarrant County may no longer take or send any brush or vegetative debris to the Grand Prairie landfill.

Because it is too difficult to discern ash trees from other cut limbs and brush, the quarantine applies to all brush, limbs and firewood in Tarrant County.

Residents may: • Leave brush on curb for once-a-month Limb and Brush Pickup by the city, who will take it to a location in Tarrant County. For the pickup schedule visit: gptx.org/emeraldashborer • Take brush to the Arlington Landfill for a fee. The disposal fee is based on tonnage and waste type. Call the Landfill at (817) 354-2305 in advance for a list of rates.

Also at Epic West, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, Zero Degrees, Boiling King Crab and First Watch, a daytime café serving breakfast, will open this summer. Salata Salad Kitchen, Genghis Grill and Blaze Pizza will open at Epic West soon and a Raising Cane’s restaurant is set to open in Epic West in early 2020.

LIVING SPACES FURNITURE Living Spaces furniture store is now open in Grand Prairie at 1514 Arkansas Lane. This California retailer offers nicely priced home furnishings, including Nate + Jeremiah’s signature collection and Magnolia Homes by Joanna Gaines.

Living Spaces offers a 175,000-squarefoot retail store, along with its 700,000-square-foot fulfillment center.

By comparison, IKEA is 290,000 square feet and the Walmart on 161 is 187,000 square feet. This is the metroplex’s first store, and Texas’s third.

FIREHOUSE GASTRO PARK The city’s historic Fire Station #1 is now reimagined and open as Firehouse Gastro Park (FHGP). Located at 321 W. Main Street, this dining destination features indoor and outdoor dining, an outdoor stage with seating and yard games, a secret garden bar, family-friendly green-space, a Tweedfueled coffee shop, a smoke house, and diverse deliciousness including Nashville hot chicken, artisan burgers, farm fresh salads and sandwiches, popup food trucks, local craft beers and LA’s own MAMA’S MEDICINE cocktails.

Restaurateurs Jason and Carlee Smith brought their southern California roots to downtown Texas for a relaxed upscale experience. The restaurant is open Tuesday – Sunday. Enjoy the walk up coffee bar window, or settle inside the coffee lounge with WIFI for a meeting, book or conversation. MAIN EVENT Main Event is building on the southwest corner of Warrior and SH 161, and open in 2020. This destination center of fun features bowling, food, an arcade, laser tag, rock climbing, gravity ropes, billiards, mini golf, karaoke, and virtual reality games. There are only six other Main Events in the Metroplex. The closest to us would be Grapevine and southwest Fort Worth. Ours will have a huge draw and be the only one serving the majority of southern DFW.

Adult Advanced For swimmers who would like to further develop their stroke. 30 min.

Preschool 4 – Stroke Development The goal of Preschool 4 is to refine rotary breathing/freestyle, develop primary strokes and teach standing dives. Freestyle and backstroke (3-5 body lengths) and treading water (10-15 seconds) are required before entering P4. 30 min.

Assigned Private Lessons Private lessons are for all ages and swimming levels. “Assigned” means the times are already scheduled with concurrent group lesson sessions.

Coming to the gym can be intimidating especially if you are not sure what to do when you get there. There are lots of machines, weights and other things that resemble medieval torture devices. Then there are all these people who look like they know what they are doing and they can smell a newbie a mile away. Your survival instincts kick in and it’s time to get out!.. But wait! We have a solution for you!

Introducing CF Foundations.

A 4-week (8 sessions) program designed to help anyone new to CrossFit learn basic functional movements as well as the 10 domains of fitness: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy.

Movements will be performed with body weight, PVC pipes, light weight training bars, and medicine balls and taught by our CrossFit 2960 training staff. We are here to welcome you, meet you where you are on your

fitness journey, empower you by educating and challenging you, and to cheer you on as you progress forward. Our primary goal is to prepare you to join the group classes with confidence.

CF Foundations is $49 and is for Epic Members ages 14+. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30pm in the Multi-Purpose room and begin the first Monday of each new month.

Epic Swim LESSONS Our swim lesson program is great for swimmers of all ages. Beginner level swimmers will be acclimated to the water and taught building block skills that will help them progress as they learn to swim. As swimmers progress they will be taught safety skills and learn the 4 competition strokes.

BEGINNER’S ACRYLIC PAINTING $25. 2-hour class with canvas, paint, and brushes provided. Students will learn brush technique and color mixing while painting the same composition. Instructor will demonstrate steps beside a completed example.

Beginner’s Drawing $20. 2-hour class with materials provided. Students will learn drawing techniques like shading and the grid method for portraits. Instructors will demonstrate all steps.

Still-Life Drawing $20. 2-hour class with materials provided. Instructor will set up a still life, and teach students how to draw from observation.

Beginner’s Ceramics $25. 2-hour class with clay/tools provided. Students will learn how to make pinch pots, coil pots, mini sculptures, etc.

Gallery 2960 The Epic’s Art Gallery will host gallery showings for budding visual artists as well as established local artists. With the capability to provide an accompanying opening and closing reception, our goal is to show artwork for at least a month at a time so that the work will be exposed to hundreds of members and guests on a daily basis. All artwork will be labeled with name, title of work and price, if the artist chooses to sell. We will accept all appropriate, family friendly artwork including paintings, drawings, ceramics and other mixed media.
